Aluminum oxide coating provides surface which will not be wetted by brazing alloy and which stops metallic diffusion welding of tooling materials to part being produced. This method eliminates loss of tooling materials and parts from braze wetting and allows fall-apart disassembly of tooling after brazing

Soil pH governs production rate of calcium carbonate secreted by the earthworm Lumbricus terrestris
Lumbricus terrestris earthworms exposed to 11 soils of contrasting properties produced, on average, 0.8 ± 0.1 mgCaCO3 earthworm−1 day−1 in the form of granules up to 2 mm in diameter. Production rate increased with soil pH (r2 = 0.68, p < 0.01). Earthworms could be a significant source of calcite in soils
Identifying acne treatment uncertainties via a James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership
Objectives: The Acne Priority Setting Partnership
(PSP) was set up to identify and rank treatment
uncertainties by bringing together people with acne,
and professionals providing care within and beyond the
National Health Service (NHS).
Setting: The UK with international participation.
Participants: Teenagers and adults with acne,
parents, partners, nurses, clinicians, pharmacists,
private practitioners.
Methods: Treatment uncertainties were collected via
separate online harvesting surveys, embedded within the
PSP website, for patients and professionals. A wide
variety of approaches were used to promote the surveys
to stakeholder groups with a particular emphasis on
teenagers and young adults. Survey submissions were
collated using keywords and verified as uncertainties by
appraising existing evidence. The 30 most popular
themes were ranked via weighted scores from an online
vote. At a priority setting workshop, patients and
professionals discussed the 18 highest-scoring questions
from the vote, and reached consensus on the top 10.
Results: In the harvesting survey, 2310 people,
including 652 professionals and 1456 patients (58%
aged 24 y or younger), made submissions containing at
least one research question. After checking for relevance
and rephrasing, a total of 6255 questions were collated
into themes. Valid votes ranking the 30 most common
themes were obtained from 2807 participants. The top 10
uncertainties prioritised at the workshop were largely
focused on management strategies, optimum use of
common prescription medications and the role of nondrug
based interventions. More female than male patients
took part in the harvesting surveys and vote. A wider
range of uncertainties were provided by patients
compared to professionals.
Conclusions: Engaging teenagers and young adults in
priority setting is achievable using a variety of
promotional methods. The top 10 uncertainties reveal an
extensive knowledge gap about widely used interventions
and the relative merits of drug versus non-drug based
treatments in acne management
Differential Disease Susceptibilities in Experimentally Reptarenavirus-Infected Boa Constrictors and Ball Pythons.
Inclusion body disease (IBD) is an infectious disease originally described in captive snakes. It has traditionally been diagnosed by the presence of large eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusions and is associated with neurological, gastrointestinal, and lymphoproliferative disorders. Previously, we identified and established a culture system for a novel lineage of arenaviruses isolated from boa constrictors diagnosed with IBD. Although ample circumstantial evidence suggested that these viruses, now known as reptarenaviruses, cause IBD, there has been no formal demonstration of disease causality since their discovery. We therefore conducted a long-term challenge experiment to test the hypothesis that reptarenaviruses cause IBD. We infected boa constrictors and ball pythons by cardiac injection of purified virus. We monitored the progression of viral growth in tissues, blood, and environmental samples. Infection produced dramatically different disease outcomes in snakes of the two species. Ball pythons infected with Golden Gate virus (GoGV) and with another reptarenavirus displayed severe neurological signs within 2 months, and viral replication was detected only in central nervous system tissues. In contrast, GoGV-infected boa constrictors remained free of clinical signs for 2 years, despite high viral loads and the accumulation of large intracellular inclusions in multiple tissues, including the brain. Inflammation was associated with infection in ball pythons but not in boa constrictors. Thus, reptarenavirus infection produces inclusions and inclusion body disease, although inclusions per se are neither necessarily associated with nor required for disease. Although the natural distribution of reptarenaviruses has yet to be described, the different outcomes of infection may reflect differences in geographical origin.IMPORTANCE New DNA sequencing technologies have made it easier than ever to identify the sequences of microorganisms in diseased tissues, i.e., to identify organisms that appear to cause disease, but to be certain that a candidate pathogen actually causes disease, it is necessary to provide additional evidence of causality. We have done this to demonstrate that reptarenaviruses cause inclusion body disease (IBD), a serious transmissible disease of snakes. We infected boa constrictors and ball pythons with purified reptarenavirus. Ball pythons fell ill within 2 months of infection and displayed signs of neurological disease typical of IBD. In contrast, boa constrictors remained healthy over 2 years, despite high levels of virus throughout their bodies. This difference matches previous reports that pythons are more susceptible to IBD than boas and could reflect the possibility that boas are natural hosts of these viruses in the wild

Continuous, Semi-discrete, and Fully Discretized Navier-Stokes Equations
The Navier--Stokes equations are commonly used to model and to simulate flow
phenomena. We introduce the basic equations and discuss the standard methods
for the spatial and temporal discretization. We analyse the semi-discrete
equations -- a semi-explicit nonlinear DAE -- in terms of the strangeness index
and quantify the numerical difficulties in the fully discrete schemes, that are
induced by the strangeness of the system. By analyzing the Kronecker index of
the difference-algebraic equations, that represent commonly and successfully
used time stepping schemes for the Navier--Stokes equations, we show that those
time-integration schemes factually remove the strangeness. The theoretical

Time evolution, cyclic solutions and geometric phases for general spin in an arbitrarily varying magnetic field
A neutral particle with general spin and magnetic moment moving in an
arbitrarily varying magnetic field is studied. The time evolution operator for
the Schr\"odinger equation can be obtained if one can find a unit vector that
satisfies the equation obeyed by the mean of the spin operator. There exist at
least cyclic solutions in any time interval. Some particular time
interval may exist in which all solutions are cyclic. The nonadiabatic
geometric phase for cyclic solutions generally contains extra terms in addition
to the familiar one that is proportional to the solid angle subtended by the

Geometric Phases and Mielnik's Evolution Loops
The cyclic evolutions and associated geometric phases induced by
time-independent Hamiltonians are studied for the case when the evolution
operator becomes the identity (those processes are called {\it evolution
loops}). We make a detailed treatment of systems having equally-spaced energy
levels. Special emphasis is made on the potentials which have the same spectrum
as the harmonic oscillator potential (the generalized oscillator potentials)

Percutaneous vertebroplasty is not a risk factor for new osteoporotic compression fractures: results from VERTOS II
Background and purpose: Pv is increasingly used as treatment for osteoporotic vcfs. However, controversy exists as to whether pv increases the risk for new vcfs during follow-up. The purpose of our research was to assess the incidence of new vcfs in patients with acute vcfs randomized to pv and conservative therapy. Materials and methods: Vertos ii is a prospective multicenter randomized controlled trial comparing pv with conservative therapy in 202 patients. Incidence, distribution, and timing of new vcfs during follow-up were assessed from spine radiographs. In addition, further height loss during follow-up of treated vcfs was measured. Results: After a mean follow-up of 11.4 Months (Median, 12.0; Range, 1-24 months), 18 New vcfs occurred in 15 of 91 patients after pv and 30 new vcfs in 21 of 85 patients after conservative therapy. This difference was not significant (P = .44). There was no higher fracture risk for adjacent-versus-distant vertebrae. Mean time to new vcf was 16.2 Months after pv and 17.8 Months after conservative treatment (Logrank, p = .45). The baseline number of vcfs was the only risk factor for occurrence (Or, 1.43; 95% Ci, 1.05-1.95) And number (P = .01) Of new vcfs. After conservative therapy, further height loss of treated vertebrae occurred more frequently (35 Of 85 versus 11 of 91 patients, p < .001) And was more severe (P < .001) Than after pv. Conclusions: Incidence of new vcfs was not different after pv compared with conservative therapy after a mean of 11.4 Months' follow-up. The only risk factor for new vcfs was the number of vcfs at baseline. Pv contributed to preservation of stature by decreasing both the incidence and severity of further height loss in treated vertebrae
