Higher Order Approximation to the Hill Problem Dynamics about the Libration Points
An analytical solution to the Hill problem Hamiltonian expanded about the
libration points has been obtained by means of perturbation techniques. In
order to compute the higher orders of the perturbation solution that are needed
to capture all the relevant periodic orbits originated from the libration
points within a reasonable accuracy, the normalization is approached in complex
variables. The validity of the solution extends to energy values considerably
far away from that of the libration points and, therefore, can be used in the
computation of Halo orbits as an alternative to the classical
Lindstedt-Poincar\'e approach. Furthermore, the theory correctly predicts the
existence of the two-lane bridge of periodic orbits linking the families of
planar and vertical Lyapunov orbits.Comment: 28 pages, 8 figure
A Reformulation of Matrix Graph Grammars with Boolean Complexes
Prior publication in the Electronic Journal of Combinatorics.Graph transformation is concerned with the manipulation of graphs by means of rules. Graph grammars have been traditionally studied using techniques from category theory. In previous works, we introduced Matrix Graph Grammars (MGG) as a purely algebraic approach for the study of graph dynamics, based on the representation of simple graphs by means of their adjacency matrices.
The observation that, in addition to positive information, a rule implicitly defines negative conditions for its application (edges cannot become dangling, and cannot be added twice as we work with simple digraphs) has led to a representation of graphs as two matrices encoding positive and negative information. Using this representation, we have reformulated the main concepts in MGGs, while we have introduced other new ideas. In particular, we present (i) a new formulation of productions together with an abstraction of them (so called swaps), (ii) the notion of coherence, which checks whether a production sequence can be potentially applied, (iii) the minimal graph enabling the applicability of a sequence, and (iv) the conditions for compatibility of sequences (lack of dangling edges) and G-congruence (whether two sequences have the same minimal initial graph). This work has been partially sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, project METEORIC (TIN2008-02081/TIN)
Generating time series reference models based on event analysis
Creating a reference model that represents a given set of time series is a relevant problem as it can be applied to a wide range of tasks like diagnosis, decision support, fraud detection, etc. In some domains, like seismography or medicine, the relevant information contained in the time series is concentrated in short periods of time called events. In this paper, we propose a technique for generating time series reference models based on the analysis of the events they contain. The proposed technique has been applied to time series from two medical domains: Electroencephalography, a neurological procedure to record the electrical activity produced by the brain and Stabilometry, a branch of medicine studying balance-related functions in human beings
Two Different Approaches of Feature Extraction for Classifying the EEG Signals
The electroencephalograph (EEG) signal is one of the most widely used signals in the biomedicine field due to its rich information about human tasks. This research study describes a new approach based on i) build reference models from a set of time series, based on the analysis of the events that they contain, is suitable for domains where the relevant information is concentrated in specific regions of the time series, known as events. In order to deal with events, each event is characterized by a set of attributes. ii) Discrete wavelet transform to the EEG data in order to extract temporal information in the form of changes in the frequency domain over time- that is they are able to extract non-stationary signals embedded in the noisy background of the human brain.
The performance of the model was evaluated in terms of training performance and classification accuracies and the results confirmed that the proposed scheme has potential in classifying the EEG signals
Knowledge web: realising the semantic web... all the way to knowledge-enhanced multimedia documents
The semantic web and semantic web services are major efforts in order to spread and to integrate knowledge technology to the whole web. The Knowledge Web network of excellence aims at supporting their developments at the best and largest European level and supporting industry in adopting them. It especially investigates the solution of scalability, heterogeneity and dynamics obstacles to the full development of the semantic web. We explain how Knowledge Web results should benefit knowledge-enhanced multimedia applications
In this article I analyze the iconographic construction of the idea of nation in Spain Turing the country’s transitional period. The analysis is based on images (pictures and photographs) related to the nation concept, which were included in elementary school’s History, Civic Education and Patriotic Education books. This study aims to be an approach to the different ways in which the notion of Spain was conceived by the equally different political actors who took part in the production of these books (political parties and the Catholic Church, mainly) and, therefore, to the way it was represented by a series of images, which were expected to show the values and the historical justification of this idea.
