Higher Order Approximation to the Hill Problem Dynamics about the Libration Points
An analytical solution to the Hill problem Hamiltonian expanded about the
libration points has been obtained by means of perturbation techniques. In
order to compute the higher orders of the perturbation solution that are needed
to capture all the relevant periodic orbits originated from the libration
points within a reasonable accuracy, the normalization is approached in complex
variables. The validity of the solution extends to energy values considerably
far away from that of the libration points and, therefore, can be used in the
computation of Halo orbits as an alternative to the classical
Lindstedt-Poincar\'e approach. Furthermore, the theory correctly predicts the
existence of the two-lane bridge of periodic orbits linking the families of
planar and vertical Lyapunov orbits.Comment: 28 pages, 8 figure

Developing alternative markets in Veracruz : the case of totomoxtle
textA series of economic and political changes that occurred in the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s have had major impacts on the small-scale agricultural sector in Mexico. The debt crisis of the 1980s led the government to adopt the neoliberal model. Reforms brought by the adoption of this model including trade liberalization, privatization of state-owned enterprises, reduction and cancellation of credits and social programs, along with the relative abandonment of the agricultural sector and focus on the manufacturing and services industries have caused economic, social and environmental harm to corn producers in the Totonacapan region of the state of Veracruz. In order to respond to the impacts of these large-scale policies, farmers coped by migrating to cities and U.S., and by taking advantage of the emergence of alternative markets, such as the corn husk, or totomoxtle, industry. The objective of this study is to explain the context in which totomoxtle emerged and evolved, and determine the importance and impact that this market has had on corn producers, intermediaries and exporters, men, women and children. Based on qualitative data gathered during 2011 using semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and the examination of secondary sources, I found that the totomoxtle trade has expanded considerably in the last decade becoming the main source of income and employment for many marginal households in the Totonacapan. The study questions, however, its ability to be used as a tool for poverty alleviation. Findings suggest that intermediaries and exporters obtain larger profits than farmers thus elucidating the need for more access to capital and infrastructure to achieve higher benefits for growers. At the same time, research also found evidence of the different participation of women and men during the production and manufacturing of totomoxtle. Moreover, research show that women were paid less, work for more hours and they labor in small and crowed places. Finally, data also suggests that the growth of totomoxtle production can be attributed to the increased demand and consumption by Mexican/Latino immigrant populations in the U.S., a shift in the American palate, and its overall availability in new immigrant destinations.Latin American Studie
Mainstreaming environmental education in the teacher education curriculum in the Philippines
In the Philippines, environmental education (EE) is a mandate, and at the higher education level, the teacher education programs can serve as a context for EE. During the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year, this pilot study tested teacher education lessons integrated with environmental concepts and principles using EE materials developed by the department of environment and natural resources (DENR) among the 2,420 third year teacher education students in eight institutions of the national network of normal schools (3NS). Data were collected using a validated researcher-made test on environmental concepts and principles. Qualitative data were collected through class observations, focus group conversations, interviews, and authentic student outputs, the capstone projects. The t-test between the pre-test and post-test means (4,838) showed a substantial improvement in the EE test at a level of 0.05 significance across all ten disciplines in eight institutions. The EE mainstreaming in the teacher education curriculum using DENR EE materials and researcher-made and searched EE materials was found effective in enhancing the students' level of competence in terms of environmental concepts and principles. Institutionalization of the mainstreaming of EE in the teacher education curriculum and the cross-cutting inclusion of EE in higher education programs through national policy is strongly recommended

The study was developed with 68 families distributed in 24 communities of the Quimiag parish, Riobamba canton, Chimborazo province, with the aim of generating a proposal for the improvement of the production units, through static characterization and the establishment of strategies that allow the creation of a sustainability proposal, in the medium term, the study is focused on three components: social, ecological, productive - economic. Quimiag is a parish with 31 population settlements among: cooperatives, neighborhoods and communities of which 18 are Spanish-speaking and 13 are Kichwa-Spanish-speaking. The majority of the population is dedicated to work in agricultural activities, contributing 50% of the family nucleus between 1 to 8 members to the family economy, 96% of those responsible for the administration of the productive units have an educational level between 6 and 18 years, with the average age of 46 years being only 16% of older adults; 70.6% are male and 29.4% are female. 82% of the producers have a good quality soil of their agroecosystems, 18% have a regular soil due to the presence of hillsides, rocky soils also eroded. 33% of agro ecosystems did not present native plants, while 66.2% maintained endemic species, contributing to the protection of soil, pests and diseases by housing living organisms beneficial to agricultural production such as ladybugs (cucujoide beetle insect) that feed on harmful microorganisms known as pests. The strategies established for the strengthening of the production units were designed through the application of the logical framework approach developed through participatory workshops with the actors involved, which are reflected in the proposal generated in the present study. To ensure the sustainability of the process, key agreements were established with State institutions and Parish Board who will actively strengthen producers for the continuous improvement of the management of production systems
Olanzapine As A Novel Treatment For Chemotherapy Induced Nausea
OLANZAPINE AS A NOVEL TREATMENT FOR CHEMOTHERAPY-INDUCED
NAUSEA AND VOMITING
Rosario B. Jaime-Lara
Bart C. De Jonghe
Background: Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV) is a prevalent adverse effect of chemotherapy, reducing quality of life and resulting in considerable healthcare resource utilization costs. Olanzapine, historically used as an antipsychotic, is now added to cancer antiemetic guidelines due to its effectiveness in preventing and managing CINV. While therapeutic options have improved CINV treatment, the literature highlights a substantial gap in knowledge regarding the pathophysiology of CINV and the biological basis of olanzapine’s effect on CINV. The primary objective of this dissertation was to better understand how olanzapine alleviates CINV. These data can increase knowledge of the pathophysiology of CINV and help identify potential biological mediators to target for therapeutic interventions.
Methods/Results: To address our objective, we conducted a literature review of CINV with a focus on olanzapine and identified potential biological mediators of olanzapine’s effects on CINV: ghrelin and serotonin g. Subsequently, we conducted a series of behavioral experiments in rats to study the antiemetic effects of olanzapine. Olanzapine in rats (as in humans) decreased chemotherapy-induced malaise/nausea, anorexia, and body weight loss. To test the effect of olanzapine on potential biological mediators of these chemotherapy-induced adverse effects, we assessed the effects of olanzapine on ghrelin and serotonin. We found that olanzapine decreases the number of cisplatin (a chemotherapeutic agent known to induce CINV in almost 100% of people and animals in the absence of antiemetic prophylaxis) activated neurons in the hindbrain and determined olanzapine’s effect on chemotherapy-induced malaise is at least in part mediated by the hindbrain. Additionally, we found olanzapine counteracts cisplatin-induced decreases in circulating ghrelin and central ghrelin receptor [GHSR] gene expression six hours post chemotherapy. Lastly, we report olanzapine decreased serotonin 2C receptor [5-HT2C] gene expression in the hindbrain and the hypothalamus.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that olanzapine may alleviate CINV by counteracting the effects of cisplatin on the hindbrain, circulating ghrelin, ghrelin receptor expression, and 5-HT2C receptor gene expression in the hindbrain and hypothalamus. Future research should further define the role of these potential biological mediators in CINV and determine whether counteracting cisplatin-induced alterations of ghrelin and 5-HT2C signaling are sufficient to help control CINV

A Systematic Review of Biological Mechanisms of Fatigue in Chronic Illness
Fatigue, a commonly reported symptom, is defined as an overwhelming, debilitating, and sustained sense of exhaustion that decreases the ability to function and carry out daily activities. To date, cancer researchers have been in the forefront in investigating the possible biological mechanisms of fatigue, identifying inflammation, dysregulation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, and activation of the autonomic nervous system. The purpose of this systematic review is to describe fatigue and what is known about the biological mechanisms described in cancer in five chronic, noninfectious illnesses: heart failure, multiple sclerosis, chronic kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We searched PubMed and EMBASE using fatigue as a major Medical subject headings (MeSH) heading with each individual disease added as a search term followed by each biological mechanism. We included only primary research articles published in English between 1996 and 2016 describing studies conducted in adult humans. We identified 26 relevant articles. While there is some evidence that the biological mechanisms causing fatigue in cancer are also associated with fatigue in other chronic illnesses, more research is needed to explore inflammation, the HPA axis, and the autonomic nervous system, and other mechanisms in relation to fatigue in a variety of chronic illnesses
