Factores de virulencia asociados a especies zoonóticas de Campylobacter spp.
Campylobacter spp., es una bacteria Gram negativa causante de una de las enfermedades transmitida por los alimentos más prevalente en el mundo, la campilobacteriosis. Esta bacteria puede encontrarse en una gran cantidad de animales silvestres y domésticos, así como también en agua, tierra, productos alimenticios pero el más importante reservorio lo constituyen las aves. Campylobacter spp., es una bacteria patógena que afecta al hombre, causando diarrea y otras enfermedades como septicemia, meningitis o complicaciones, como artritis reactivas y el Síndrome de Guillian-Barré (GBS), aunque se conocen las enfermedades que pueden provocar poco se sabe de los mecanismos de patogenicidad involucrados. Los factores de virulencia que más se han relacionado con patogenicidad son la motilidad por la presencia de flagelos, la capacidad de adherencia e invasión a la célula eucarionte y la producción de citotoxinas. El conocimiento de la naturaleza, de la regulación y de los mecanismos de acción de los factores de virulencia de Campylobacter spp., es indispensable para la prevención y tratamiento de esta enfermedad
To grate a liquid into tiny droplets by its impact on a hydrophobic micro-grid
We report on experiments of drop impacting a hydrophobic micro-grid, of
typical spacing a few tens of m. Above a threshold in impact speed, liquid
emerges to the other side, forming micro-droplets of size about that of the
grid holes. We propose a method to produce either a mono-disperse spray or a
single tiny droplet of volume as small as a few picoliters corresponding to a
volume division of the liquid drop by a factor of up to 10. We also discuss
the discrepancy of the measured thresholds with that predicted by a balance

Limit on the Temporal Variation of the Fine-Structure Constant Using Atomic Dysprosium
Over a period of eight months, we have monitored transition frequencies
between nearly degenerate, opposite-parity levels in two isotopes of atomic
dysprosium (Dy). These transition frequencies are highly sensitive to temporal
variation of the fine-structure constant () due to relativistic
corrections of large and opposite sign for the opposite-parity levels. In this
unique system, in contrast to atomic-clock comparisons, the difference of the
electronic energies of the opposite-parity levels can be monitored directly
utilizing a radio-frequency (rf) electric-dipole transition between them. Our
measurements show that the frequency variation of the 3.1-MHz transition in
Dy and the 235-MHz transition in Dy are 9.06.7 Hz/yr and
-0.66.5 Hz/yr, respectively. These results provide a value for the rate of
fractional variation of of yr (1
) without any assumptions on the constancy of other fundamental
constants, indicating absence of significant variation at the present level of

Investigation of the Gravitational Potential Dependence of the Fine-Structure Constant Using Atomic Dysprosium
Radio-frequency E1 transitions between nearly degenerate, opposite parity
levels of atomic dysprosium were monitored over an eight month period to search
for a variation in the fine-structure constant. During this time period, data
were taken at different points in the gravitational potential of the Sun. The
data are fitted to the variation in the gravitational potential yielding a
value of for the fit parameter . This
value gives the current best laboratory limit. In addition, our value of
combined with other experimental constraints is used to extract
the first limits on k_e and k_q. These coefficients characterize the variation
of m_e/m_p and m_q/m_p in a changing gravitational potential, where m_e, m_p,

A Calibrated Time Domain Envelope Measurement System for the Behavioral Modeling of Power Amplifiers
This paper presents a set-up which enables the generation and the calibrated time domain measurements of complex envelopes of modulated signals at both ports of non linear microwave power amplifiers. The architecture of the characterization tool is given. Examples of error corrected time domain envelopes at the input / output RF ports of a 36 dBm output power – 30dB power gain L-band SSPA are shown. Futhermore, the use of this characterization tool and a suitable processing of measurement data are applied to a novel measurement based behavioral modeling approach of non linear devices accounting for memory effects
Isotope geochemistry and petrogenesis of peralkaline Middle Miocene ignimbrites from central Sonora: relationship with continental break-up and the birth of the Gulf of California
Middle Miocene peralkaline ignimbrites constitute a specific geodynamic marker of the early stage of opening of the Gulf of California, preserved either in central Sonora or the Puertecitos area, in Baja California. Very uniform ages (12-12.5 Ma) obtained on these rocks show that this volcanic episode corresponds to a specific stage in the tectonic evolution of the proto-gulf area. Field observations and slightly different Sr and Nd isotopic signatures support eruptions from several small volume magma batches rather than from a large-volume caldera forming event. Isotopic ratios help to constrain the petrogenesis of the peralkaline liquids by fractional crystallization of transitional basalts in a shallow reservoir, with slight contamination by Precambrian upper crustal material. Less differentiated glomeroporphyritic icelandites erupted at about 11 Ma, mark an increase in the magma production rate and highlight an easier access to the surface, illustrating an advanced stage in the weakening of the continental crust. The tilting of the Middle Tertiary sequences results from a major change in the tectonic regime, from E-W extension giving rise to N-S grabens, to NNW-SSE strike-slip motion that can be related to the transfer of Baja California from North America to the Pacific plate. The location of peralkaline volcanism coincides with the southern edge of the Precambrian crust and the southernmost extension of the California slab window at 12.5 Ma
Magnetic-dipole transition probabilities in B-like and Be-like ions
The magnetic-dipole transition probabilities between the fine-structure
levels (1s^2 2s^2 2p) ^2P_1/2 - ^2P_3/2 for B-like ions and (1s^2 2s 2p) ^3P_1
- ^3P_2 for Be-like ions are calculated. The configuration-interaction method
in the Dirac-Fock-Sturm basis is employed for the evaluation of the
interelectronic-interaction correction with negative-continuum spectrum being
taken into account. The 1/Z interelectronic-interaction contribution is derived
within a rigorous QED approach employing the two-time Green function method.
The one-electron QED correction is evaluated within framework of the anomalous
magnetic-moment approximation. A comparison with the theoretical results of
other authors and with available experimental data is presented
Collisional perturbation of radio-frequency E1 transitions in an atomic beam of dysprosium
We have studied collisional perturbations of radio-frequency (rf)
electric-dipole (E1) transitions between the nearly degenerate opposite-parity
levels in atomic dysprosium (Dy) in the presence of 10 to 80 Torr of
H, N, He, Ar, Ne, Kr, and Xe. Collisional broadening and
shift of the resonance, as well as the attenuation of the signal amplitude are
observed to be proportional to the foreign-gas density with the exception of
H and Ne, for which no shifts were observed. Corresponding rates and cross
sections are presented. In addition, rates and cross sections for O are
extracted from measurements using air as foreign gas. The primary motivation
for this study is the need for accurate determination of the shift rates, which
are needed in a laboratory search for the temporal variation of the
fine-structure constant [A. T. Nguyen, D. Budker, S. K. Lamoreaux, and J. R.
