    e^+e^- production from pp reactions at BEVALAC energies

    We have performed a detailed study of dilepton production from pp collisions including the subthreshold ρ\rho production via baryonic resonances (N(1520), N(1700)) in addition to the conventional dilepton sources as π0,η,ω\pi^0, \eta, \omega and Δ\Delta Dalitz decays and direct decays of vector mesons (ρ,ω\rho, \omega). The role of baryonic resonances in ρ\rho production from nucleon-nucleon collisions is studied in comparison to the DLS data which are well described.Comment: 19 pages, revtex, including 7 postscript figures, to be published in Nucl.     This article examines Analogue’s Living Film Set, an interactive theatre piece which uses miniature film sets, multi-touch surface technology and live video feeds to reframe my semi-remembered memories from the mid-1980s as a collective participatory experience. Drawing on new wave novelist J. G. Ballard’s notion of childhood memory as ‘time-sculptures of terrifying ambiguity’ [Ballard, J. G. 1963. “Time, Memory and Inner Space.” J. G. Ballard website (originally published in The Woman Journalist Magazine). Accessed August 6, 2015. http://www.jgballard.ca/non_fiction/jgb_time_memory_innerspace.html], I will demonstrate how my childhood town of Shepperton has been overwritten in both Ballardian literary fiction and the incursion of cinematic artifice from the neighbouring activities of Shepperton Film Studios. I argue that the ambiguity of my recollections and the contamination of my lived history with ‘prosthetic memories’ [Landsberg, Alison. 2004. Prosthetic Memory: The Transformation of American Remembrance in the Age of Mass Culture. New York, NY: Columbia UP, 20–21.] has provided a creative space to re-enact the blended hyperreality of my early childhood through the work’s intermedial form. I will conclude by examining how the shifting reality status of the media used within the performance intersects with the notion of ‘time-sculptures’ and problematises what Carol Martin [(2013).     Probing Interband Coulomb Interactions in Semiconductor Nanocrystals with 2D Double-Quantum Coherence Spectroscopy

    Using previously developed exciton scattering model accounting for the interband, i.e., exciton-biexciton, Coulomb interactions in semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs), we derive a closed set of equations for 2D double-quantum coherence signal. The signal depends on the Liouville space pathways which include both the interband scattering processes and the inter- and intraband optical transitions. These processes correspond to the formation of different cross-peaks in the 2D spectra. We further report on our numerical calculations of the 2D signal using reduced level scheme parameterized for PbSe NCs. Two different NC excitation regimes considered and unique spectroscopic features associated with the interband Coulomb interactions are identified.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure

    Intermediate mass excess of dilepton production in heavy ion collisions at BEVALAC energies

    Dielectron mass spectra are examined for various nuclear reactions recently measured by the DLS collaboration. A detailed description is given of all dilepton channels included in the transport model UrQMD 1.0, i.e. Dalitz decays of π0,η,ω,ηâ€Č\pi^0,\eta,\omega,\eta' mesons and of the Δ(1232)\Delta(1232) resonance, direct decays of vector mesons and pnpn bremsstrahlung. The microscopic calculations reproduce data for light systems fairly well, but tend to underestimate the data in pppp at high energies and in pdpd at low energies. These conventional sources, however, cannot explain the recently reported enhancement for nucleus-nucleus collisions in the mass region 0.15 GeV<MeeM_{ee}<0.6 GeV. Chiral scaling and ω\omega meson broadening in the medium are investigated as a source of this mass excess.     Role of baryonic resonances in the dilepton emission in nucleon-nucleon collisions

    Within an effective Lagrangian model, we present calculations for cross sections of the dilepton production in proton-proton and proton-neutron collisions at laboratory kinetic energies in 1-5 GeV range. Production amplitudes include contributions from the nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung as well as from the mechanism of excitation, propagation, and radiative decay of Delta(1232) and N*(1520) intermediate baryonic resonances. It is found that the delta isobar terms dominate the cross sections in the entire considered beam energy range. Our calculations are able to explain the data of the DLS collaboration on the dilepton production in proton-proton collisions for beam energies below 1.3 GeV. However, for incident energies higher than this the inclusion of contributions from other dilepton sources like Dalitz decay of pi0 and eta mesons, and direct decay of rho and omega mesons is necessary to describe the data.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures, more details of the calculations added, version to appear in Phys.     The invariant mass spectrum of the e+e−e^{+}e^{-} and ÎŒ+Ό−\mu ^{+}\mu ^{-} pairs from decays of light unflavored mesons with masses below the ϕ(1020)\phi (1020)-meson mass to final states containing along with a dilepton pair one photon, one meson, and two mesons are calculated within the framework of the effective meson theory.     Dilepton production in heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies

    We present a unified description of the vector meson and dilepton production in elementary and in heavy ion reactions. The production of vector mesons (ρ,ω\rho,\omega) is described via the excitation of nuclear resonances (RR). The theoretical framework is an extended vector meson dominance model (eVMD). The treatment of the resonance decays R⟌NVR\longmapsto NV with arbitrary spin is covariant and kinematically complete. The eVMD includes thereby excited vector meson states in the transition form factors. This ensures correct asymptotics and provides a unified description of photonic and mesonic decays. The resonance model is successfully applied to the ω\omega production in p+pp+p reactions. The same model is applied to the dilepton production in elementary reactions (p+p,p+dp+p, p+d). Corresponding data are well reproduced. However, when the model is applied to heavy ion reactions in the BEVALAC/SIS energy range the experimental dilepton spectra measured by the DLS Collaboration are significantly underestimated at small invariant masses. As a possible solution of this problem the destruction of quantum interference in a dense medium is discussed. A decoherent emission through vector mesons decays enhances the corresponding dilepton yield in heavy ion reactions. In the vicinity of the ρ/ω\rho/\omega-peak the reproduction of the data requires further a substantial collisional broadening of the ρ\rho and in particular of the ω\omega meson.Comment: 32 pages revtex, 19 figures, to appear in PR

    Dilepton production in pp and CC collisions with HADES

    Dilepton production has been measured with HADES, the "High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer". In pp collisions at 2.2GeV kinetic beam energy, exclusive eta production and the Dalitz decay eta -> gamma e+e- has been reconstructed. The electromagnetic form factor is well in agreement with existing data.     A review is presented of dilepton and real photon measurements in relativistic heavy ion collisions over a very broad energy range from the low energies of the BEVALAC up to the highest energies available at RHIC. The dileptons cover the invariant mass range \mll = 0 - 2.5 GeV/c2^2, i.e. the continuum at low and intermediate masses and the light vector mesons, ρ,ω,ϕ\rho, \omega, \phi.
