Temporal characterization of individual harmonics of an attosecond pulse train by THz streaking
We report on the global temporal pulse characteristics of individual
harmonics in an attosecond pulse train by means of photo-electron streaking in
a strong low-frequency transient. The scheme allows direct retrieval of pulse
durations and first order chirp of individual harmonics without the need of
temporal scanning. The measurements were performed using an intense THz field
generated by tilted phase front technique in LiNbO_3 . Pulse properties for
harmonics of order 23, 25 and 27 show that the individual pulse durations and
linear chirp are decreasing by the harmonic order
An operon of three transcriptional regulators controls horizontal gene transfer of the integrative and conjugative element ICEclc in Pseudomonas knackmussii B13.
The integrative and conjugative element ICEclc is a mobile genetic element in Pseudomonas knackmussii B13, and an experimental model for a widely distributed group of elements in Proteobacteria. ICEclc is transferred from specialized transfer competent cells, which arise at a frequency of 3-5% in a population at stationary phase. Very little is known about the different factors that control the transfer frequency of this ICE family. Here we report the discovery of a three-gene operon encoded by ICEclc, which exerts global control on transfer initiation. The operon consists of three consecutive regulatory genes, encoding a TetR-type repressor MfsR, a MarR-type regulator and a LysR-type activator TciR. We show that MfsR autoregulates expression of the operon, whereas TciR is a global activator of ICEclc gene expression, but no clear role was yet found for MarR. Deletion of mfsR increases expression of tciR and marR, causing the proportion of transfer competent cells to reach almost 100% and transfer frequencies to approach 1 per donor. mfsR deletion also caused a two orders of magnitude loss in population viability, individual cell growth arrest and loss of ICEclc. This indicates that autoregulation is an important feature maintaining ICE transfer but avoiding fitness loss. Bioinformatic analysis showed that the mfsR-marR-tciR operon is unique for ICEclc and a few highly related ICE, whereas tciR orthologues occur more widely in a large variety of suspected ICE among Proteobacteria
Asymmetric universal entangling machine
We give a definition of asymmetric universal entangling machine which
entangles a system in an unknown state to a specially prepared ancilla. The
machine produces a fixed state-independent amount of entanglement in exchange
to a fixed degradation of the system state fidelity. We describe explicitly
such a machine for any quantum system having levels and prove its
optimality. We show that a -dimensional ancilla is sufficient for reaching
optimality. The introduced machine is a generalization to a number of widely
investigated universal quantum devices such as the symmetric and asymmetric
quantum cloners, the symmetric quantum entangler, the quantum information

Full-field implementation of a perfect eavesdropper on a quantum cryptography system
Quantum key distribution (QKD) allows two remote parties to grow a shared
secret key. Its security is founded on the principles of quantum mechanics, but
in reality it significantly relies on the physical implementation.
Technological imperfections of QKD systems have been previously explored, but
no attack on an established QKD connection has been realized so far. Here we
show the first full-field implementation of a complete attack on a running QKD
connection. An installed eavesdropper obtains the entire 'secret' key, while
none of the parameters monitored by the legitimate parties indicate a security
breach. This confirms that non-idealities in physical implementations of QKD
can be fully practically exploitable, and must be given increased scrutiny if

Spontaneous breaking of four-fold rotational symmetry in two-dimensional electronic systems explained as a continuous topological transition
The Fermi liquid approach is applied to the problem of spontaneous violation
of the four-fold rotational point-group symmetry () in strongly correlated
two-dimensional electronic systems on a square lattice. The symmetry breaking
is traced to the existence of a topological phase transition. This continuous
transition is triggered when the Fermi line, driven by the quasiparticle
interactions, reaches the van Hove saddle points, where the group velocity
vanishes and the density of states becomes singular. An unconventional Fermi
liquid emerges beyond the implicated quantum critical point.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

Pharmaceutical companies information and antibiotic prescription patterns: A follow-up study in Spanish primary care
OBJECTIVES:
To assess the impact of sources of drug information on antibiotic prescribing patterns (quantity and quality) among primary care physicians.
METHODS:
We conducted a cohort study on primary care physicians who were actively engaged in medical practice in 2010 in a region in north-west Spain (Galicia), fulfilling inclusion criteria (n = 2100). As the independent variable, we took the perceived utility of 6 sources of information on antibiotics, as measured by the validated KAAR-11 questionnaire. As dependent variables, we used: (1) a quality indicator (appropriate quality, defined as any case where 6 of the 12 indicators proposed by the European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption Network [ESAC-Net] were better than the mean values for Spain); and, (2) a quantity indicator (high prescribing), defined as any case where defined daily doses (DDD) per 1 000 inhabitants per day of antibacterials for systemic use were higher than the mean values for Spain. The adjusted odds ratio for a change in the interquartile range (IqOR) for each sources of information on antibiotics was calculated using Generalized Linear Mixed Models.
RESULTS:
The questionnaire response rate was 68%. Greater perceived utility of pharmaceutical sales representatives increases the risk of having high prescribing (1/IqOR = 2.50 [95%CI: 1.63-3.66]) and reduces the probability of having appropriate quality (1/IqOR = 2.28 [95%CI: 1.77-3.01]). Greater perceived utility of clinical guidelines increases the probability of having appropriate quality (1/IqOR = 1.25 [95%CI: 1.02-1.54]) and reduces the probability of high prescribing (1/IqOR = 1.25 [95%CI: 1.02-1.54]).
CONCLUSIONS:
Sources of information on antibiotics are an important determinant of the quantity and quality of antibiotic prescribing in primary care. Dilepton production in pp and CC collisions with HADES
Dilepton production has been measured with HADES, the "High Acceptance
DiElectron Spectrometer". In pp collisions at 2.2GeV kinetic beam energy,
exclusive eta production and the Dalitz decay eta -> gamma e+e- has been
reconstructed. The electromagnetic form factor is well in agreement with
existing data. In addition, an inclusive e+e- spectrum from the C+C reaction at

Reliability and Validation of the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire in 3- to 6-Year-Old Spanish Children
Introduction: Eating behavior is often established during the first years of life. Therefore, it is important to make a research on it to understand the relationships that children have with food and how this can contribute to prevent the development of childhood obesity. An appropriate assessment of eating behavior can be achieved using the “Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire” (CEBQ). This questionnaire has been validated in several populations and languages, but it has never been translated, adapted, and validated for Spanish children. Aim: To evaluate the reliability and internal consistency of the CEBQ questionnaire, culturally adapted and translated into Spanish (Spain), in Spanish families with children aged 3 to 6 years, as well as its association with children’s body mass index (BMI) to test its construct validity. Materials and Methods: Children between 3 and 6 years old were recruited from the ongoing MELI-POP randomized controlled clinical trial, as well as from public schools located in middle class neighborhoods of Zaragoza, Spain, to complete the sample. Sociodemographic characteristics and anthropometric measures were obtained according to standardized methods. The 35-item CEBQ questionnaire was completed twice with a time difference of 3 weeks between each response. Statistical analyses included the evaluation of internal consistency and reliability of the questionnaire, a confirmatory factor analysis, and the association between the different CEBQ scales and the children’s BMI. Results: A total of 197 children completed variables; 97 of them were boys (49.2%) and 100 girls (50.8%). Mean age of the total sample was 4.7 ± 0.9 years. There was a high test-re-test reliability of the questionnaire with values close to 1, with an average of 0.66 and a good internal consistency (Cronbach alpha with values above 0.7), so that a high reliability is established between the items in each scale. A gradual positive association was found between the score of different “pro-intake” scales of the CEBQ: “Food Responsiveness, ” “Emotional Overeating, ” and “Enjoyment of food” and the children’s BMI; at the opposite, negative associations were observed between BMI and the score of anti-intake scales “Satiety Responsiveness, ” “Slowness in Eating, ” and “Emotional Undereating.” Conclusion: The Spanish version of the CEBQ is a useful tool to assess the eating behavior of Spanish children because the high reliability and internal validity. There is a significant association between eating behavior and BMI in Spanish children. Inclusive Dielectron Production in Ar+KCl Collisions at 1.76 AGeV studied with HADES
Results of the HADES measurement of inclusive dielectron production in Ar+KCl
collisions at a kinetic beam energy of 1.76 AGeV are presented. For the first
time, high mass resolution spectroscopy was performed. The invariant mass
spectrum of dielectrons is compared with predictions of UrQMD and HSD transport
