    Tapered microfluidic device for multi-particle separation based on sedimentation principle

    This thesis presents a label-free tapered microfluidic device for a passive multi-particle separation. Separation process plays a significant role in various industries for example, biomedical diagnostic, food processing and substance purification. The growing needs for continuous separation process lead to the creation of numerous microfluidic based separation devices. Currently, microfluidic based separation devices are associated with limitations in terms of design complexity, sample purity and separation throughput. Therefore, a simple novel passive tapered microfluidic separation device with various taper angles (6°, 12°, 20° and 25°) is proposed for high purity separation of biological and non-biological samples. The device utilizes coupling mechanism between hydrodynamic separations along with sedimentation effect for enhancement of sample purity. Computer-aided design software was employed during design stage while Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software was used for device design’s optimization. The device was fabricated using a soft lithography technique and was characterized in terms of physical dimensions and leakage conditions. Size based separation simulations using FEA were carried out for 3 μm and 10 μm diameters polystyrene (PS) microbeads samples as well as a mixture of 3 μm PS microbeads and Human Cervical Epithelial Carcinoma (HeLa) cells. Through FEA simulations, larger particles were collected at Outlet 1 and small particles were collected at Outlet 2 using 20° and 25° tapered devices. Furthermore, experimental tests were conducted with similar settings and samples as in the simulations. Successful multi-particle separations were observed using 20° and 25° tapered devices at 0.5 to 3.0 μl/min flow rates. These results were in agreement with simulation results obtained. Highest purity of 98% was achieved for both samples with the use of 3.0 μl/min flow rate. As a conclusion, a passive tapered microfluidic device capable of multi-particle separation at high sample purity was developed

    Feature extraction of speech signal and heartbeat detection in angry emotion identification

    Angry is one of emotions that play an essential role in decision making, perception, learning and more. This paper detects the angry emotion by analyzing and recognizing angry speech signal as well as detecting the heartbeat condition. The speech database was uttered by various speakers in different gender and emotions. For the analyzing experiment, several digital signal processing methods such as autocorrelation and linear predication technique was introduced to analyze the features. Then, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was used to classify each parameter features such as mean fundamental frequency, maximum fundamental frequency, standard deviation fundamental frequency, mean amplitude, pause length ratio and first formant frequency to recognize the emotion. Meanwhile, a heartbeat monitoring circuit was developed to measure the heartbeat. The accuracy of the result has achieved over than 80 percent during emotional recognition test. This method can be used further to recognize angry emotion of patient during counseling session

    Nypa Frutican Rachis as building envelope heat insulator

    This research is conducted to investigate the possibility of cellulose in Nypa Frutican Rachis to achieve thermal comfort. As Malaysia was known as tropical country which has hot and humid climate, this research focus on to study the transfer of heat through Nypa Frutican Rachis as a roof. Since only Nypa leaves have been used as a roof and have been applied until now in East Malaysia, this project uses an innovation of Nypa palm by using its rachis that contain chemical material that have lower thermal conductivity value such as cellulose and lignin as a roof or building envelope heat insulator. This paper described the experimental study method by measuring the temperature of outer and inner surface of Nypa Frutican Rachis on small physical model study. The temperature was measured by using Digital Infrared Thermometer. The average outer and inner tempe rature for five consecutive days was obtained from the experiment is highlighted. Results show that the average of heat loss and heat transfer conduction for five consecutive days are 9.63 W/h and 9.86 W. This experiment shows a good result and proved that Nypa Frutican Rachis is suitable and effective to be a building envelope heat insulator

    This research purpose to determine the quality of parents involvement in the delivery of education. This research was carried out in Pongkowulu Village, North Buton Regency. This community service used the Community based Research method with a qualitative approach. This research activity divide 3 stages, The first stage was Focus Group Discussion, Literature Review, and socialization were carried out by involving various parties, including the community service team, family, teachers, school principals, the community and the village government. Second Stage, Activities at this stage are assistance to socialize parenting program. The Community Service Team is directly involved in school activities involving parents of children, the community and the government related to the Parenting program, Parents Visits to school, child discipline, character building, healthy and comfortable environment programs. 3. Third stage, in the third stage the Community Service Team conducts interviews and observations. The results of this service show the awareness of the community, schools and village government, through educational activities held together.     Artikel ini membahas Penerapan Pembelajaran Mendengarkan Berbasis Karakter di Pondok Pesantren Kelas IV MI Unggulan Roudlotul Ulum Pilang Sidoarjo (Pra-Covid-19 dan Selama Pandemi Covid-19). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan penelitian kualitatif. Serta teknik analisis data menggunakan Miles dan Huberman Model. Teknik analisis data terdiri dari beberapa tahap, yaitu pengurangan data, tampilan data, dan verifikasi data. Mata pelajaran penelitian ini adalah guru dan siswa kelas empat di Pondok Pesantren Uggulan Roudlotul Ulum Pilang Sidoarjo. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan di Pondok Pesantren Kelas IV MI Unggulan Roudlotul Ulum Pilang Sidoarjo tentang Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran Mendengarkan Berbasis Karakter sebelum pandemi dan selama pandemi Covid-19, dapat disimpulkan bahwa: Pertama, pelaksanaan pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia berbasis karakter di masa pra pandemi dan selama pandemi Covid-19 menekankan dua hal, yaitu aktivitas sumber daya manusia dan pencapaian proses pembelajaran. Kedua, mengenai kendala yang dihadapi guru selama proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia berbasis karakter, yaitu pada masa pra-pandemi (offline) muncul kendala dalam hal bahan ajar yang guru tidak memaksimalkan internet.     Pengaruh Pemberian Mikroorganisme Lokal Usus Ayam dan Jenis Media Terhadap Hasil Jamur Merang (Volvariella volvaceae L.)

    Produksi jamur merang di Indonesia belum mampu memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat, baik dalam maupun luar negeri. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan usaha untuk meningkatkan produksi dengan penggunaan mikroorganisme lokal pada pengomposan media dan jenis media yang baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian mikroorganisme lokal dan jenis media terhadap hasil jamur merang serta untuk mengetahui adanya interaksi antara 2 faktor tersebut. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada kumbung (rumah jamur) di Desa Pulo Rungkom, Kecamatan Dewantara, Kabupaten Aceh utara, mulai dari bulan Mei sampai Juni 2022. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) faktorial dengan tiga kali ulangan. Faktor 1 yaitu dosis mikroorganisme lokal usus ayam pada pengomposan dan factor 2 jenis media. Uji lanjut dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji Duncan pada taraf 5 %. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian mikrorganisme lokal berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap hasil jamur merang pada semua parameter pengamatan, Perlakuan pemberian mikroorganisme lokal terbaik terdapat pada 15 ml/l air (D2). Jenis media berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap panjang tubuh buah, jumlah seluruh tubuh buah, dan berat rata-rata tubuh buah, jenis media terbaik adalah tandan kosong kelapa sawit (M1). Terjadi interaksi antara pemberian mikroorganisme lokal dan jenis media pada semua parameter pengamatan, interaksi terbaik adalah D2M1

      This study aims to describe how digital literacy is implemented, what is the learning behavior of students and the role of digital literacy in shaping the learning behavior of students at SD IT Abata Lombok. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were the principal, grade IV teacher and grade IV students. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. The instruments of this research are observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and documentation guidelines. The data analysis technique in this research is thematic analysis. The results of this study indicate that the application of digital literacy at SD IT Abata Lombok is by the school providing facilities to support the implementation of digital literacy activities at school, especially in classroom learning activities, conducting and asking principals, teachers, educators and staff to attend trainings on the use of technology, information and communication, and providing services that can be accessed online by the community through websites or social media owned by the school. The learning behavior of students who appear in class IV when participating in learning has differences between one another, where this learning behavior can be influenced by several factors, one of which is the learning approach factor, namely the way of teaching carried out by the teacher during learning. The application of digital literacy in shaping students' learning behavior has an important role and benefits, especially in shaping students' learning behavior because it can shape and change students' learning behavior for the better

    ANALYSIS OF FERULIC ACID IN ARABICA COFFEE BEAN (COFFEA ARABICA L.) USING SOLID PHASE EXTRACTION–HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY

    Objective: The purpose of this research is quantitatively analyzing of ferulic acid in the Arabica coffee bean extract from three samples with different regions (Garut, Pangalengan, Tasikmalaya, West Java Indonesia) using Solid Phase Extraction-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (SPE-HPLC) method which is validated. Methods: The analysis method used reversed phase HPLC with an Enduro C 18 G (250 mm × 4.6 mm) column and detector UV 312 nm, with a mobile phase of methanol and water containing 1% (v/v) of acetic acid (42:58) at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min and validation method was examined in linearity, Limit of Detection (LOD), Limit of Quantification (LOQ), precision, and accuracy. Results: The results showed that the precision of retention was 8.853 min, correlation coefficient (R) was 0.9996, and the recovery was 96.909%. The quantitative analysis of ferulic acid content in the extract of coffee from thus samples of three different regions were 0.0385%, 0.0169% and 0.0076%, respectively. Conclusion: The analytical method was meet the validation criteria. Ferulic acid levels results from the extraction of the digestion process and pretreatment methods of Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is 0.0385% from Garut area, 0.0169% from Pangalengan area and 0.0076% from Tasikmalaya area

    Effect of Soybean (Glicyne max (L.) Merill) with Lamtoro Gung (Leucaena leucocephala) Proportion on the Characteristics of Soy Milk

    The utilization of soy milk is an alternative for people with lactose intolerance. Soy milk can be made with lamtoro gung substitution because the nutritional content of lamtoro gung is close to soybeans. This research aimed to determine the effect of soybean/lamtoro gung proportion on the characteristics of soy milk. This research was conducted from May until July 2022. The experimental study used a randomized block design with the treatment were soybean (K) with lamtoro gung (L) proportion S1 (K 100%: L 0%), S2 (K 95%: L 5%), S3 (K 90%: L 10%), S4 (K 85%: L 15%), S5 (K 80: L 20%), S6 (K 75%: L25), S7 (K 70%: L 30%) S8 (K 65%: L 35%), and S9 (K 60%: L 40%). The data obtained were then analyzed using analysis of variance and further test BNJ 5%, the organoleptic test used Friedman test, and determine the best treatment used effectiveness index. The results showed a significant effect of soybean with lamtoro gung proportion on protein content, vitamin C content, vitamin A content, pH, viscosity, TDS, and hedonic test of aroma and taste. The best treatment was S3 (soybean 90%: lamtoro 10% with characteristics of protein content 3.304%, vitamin C content 0.291%, vitamin A content 2.239 mg/g, pH 5.917, viscosity 3.533×103 mPa.s, TDS 7.833 °brix, and hedonic test of color 3.40, aroma 3.30, taste 3.40, and texture 3.20.
