Generation of spatial antibunching with free propagating twin beams
We propose and implement a novel method to produce a spatial anti-bunched
field with free propagating twin beams from spontaneous parametric
down-conversion. The method consists in changing the spatial propagation by
manipulating the transverse degrees of freedom through reflections of one of
the twin beams. Our method use reflective elements eliminating losses from
absorption by the objects inserted in the beams.Comment: Submitted for publication in Phys. Rev.
A BRST Analysis of -symmetries
We perform a classical BRST analysis of the symmetries corresponding to a
generic -algebra. An essential feature of our method is that we write the
-algebra in a special basis such that the algebra manifestly has a
``nested'' set of subalgebras where the subalgebra consists of
generators of spin , respectively. In the new basis the
BRST charge can be written as a ``nested'' sum of nilpotent BRST charges.
In view of potential applications to (critical and/or non-critical) -string
theories we discuss the quantum extension of our results. In particular, we
present the quantum BRST-operator for the -algebra in the new basis. For
both critical and non-critical -strings we apply our results to discuss the
relation with minimal models.Comment: 32 pages, UG-4/9
Generalized Conformal Quantum Mechanics of D0-brane
We study the generalized conformal quantum mechanics of the probe D0-brane in
the near horizon background of the bound state of source D0-branes. We
elaborate on the relationship of such model to the M theory in the light cone
frame.Comment: 14 pages, RevTeX, revised version with added references to appear in

Effective Actions for Massive Kaluza-Klein States on AdS_3 x S^3 x S^3
We construct the effective supergravity actions for the lowest massive
Kaluza-Klein states on the supersymmetric background AdS_3 x S^3 x S^3. In
particular, we describe the coupling of the supergravity multiplet to the
lowest massive spin-3/2 multiplet which contains 256 physical degrees of
freedom and includes the moduli of the theory. The effective theory is realized
as the broken phase of a particular gauging of the maximal three-dimensional
supergravity with gauge group SO(4) x SO(4). Its ground state breaks half of
the supersymmetries leading to 8 massive gravitinos acquiring mass in a super
Higgs effect. The holographic boundary theory realizes the large N=(4,4)
superconformal symmetry.Comment: 31 pages, v2: minor change
Analytic Structure of Three-Mass Triangle Coefficients
``Three-mass triangles'' are a class of integral functions appearing in
one-loop gauge theory amplitudes. We discuss how the complex analytic
properties and singularity structures of these amplitudes can be combined with
generalised unitarity techniques to produce compact expressions for three-mass
triangle coefficients. We present formulae for the N=1 contributions to the
n-point NMHV amplitude.Comment: 22 pages; v3: NMHV n=point expression added. 7 point expression

Deterministically Driven Avalanche Models of Solar Flares
We develop and discuss the properties of a new class of lattice-based
avalanche models of solar flares. These models are readily amenable to a
relatively unambiguous physical interpretation in terms of slow twisting of a
coronal loop. They share similarities with other avalanche models, such as the
classical stick--slip self-organized critical model of earthquakes, in that
they are driven globally by a fully deterministic energy loading process. The
model design leads to a systematic deficit of small scale avalanches. In some
portions of model space, mid-size and large avalanching behavior is scale-free,
being characterized by event size distributions that have the form of
power-laws with index values, which, in some parameter regimes, compare
favorably to those inferred from solar EUV and X-ray flare data. For models
using conservative or near-conservative redistribution rules, a population of
large, quasiperiodic avalanches can also appear. Although without direct
counterparts in the observational global statistics of flare energy release,
this latter behavior may be relevant to recurrent flaring in individual coronal
loops. This class of models could provide a basis for the prediction of large
solar flares.Comment: 24 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in Solar

Synchronized pulse control of decoherence
We present a new strategy for multipulse control over decoherence. When a
two-level system interacts with a reservoir characterized by a specific
frequency, we find that the decoherence is effectively suppressed by
synchronizing the pulse-train application with the dynamical motion of the
reservoir.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
Entanglement dynamics of three-qubit states in noisy channels
We study entanglement dynamics of the three-qubit system which is initially
prepared in pure Greenberger-Horne- Zeilinger (GHZ) or W state and transmitted
through one of the Pauli channels or the
depolarizing channel. With the help of the lower bound for three-qubit
concurrence we show that the W state preserves more entanglement than the GHZ
state in transmission through the Pauli channel . For the Pauli
channels and the depolarizing channel, however, the
entanglement of the GHZ state is more resistant against decoherence than the
W-type entanglement. We also briefly discuss how the accuracy of the lower
bound approximation depends on the rank of the density matrix under
consideration.Comment: 2 figures, 32 reference
