    El presente libro, basado en la investigación de la tesis de maestría de la autora, aborda las prácticas letradas universitarias a partir de un análisis cualitativo del proceso –de los procesos- de la elaboración del trabajo final de la carrera de Licenciatura en bibliotecología (Facultad de Información y Comunicación de la Universidad de la República, Uruguay, FIC, Udelar). Yanet Fuster-Caubet es bibliotecóloga de profesión y docente de la carrera de la facultad antes mencionada Posee una amplia producción científica en las temáticas de formación académica en información, géneros discursivos académicos y experiencia docente. En esta obra de ocho capítulos, la autora pretende comprender las prácticas de lectura y escritura estudiantiles en la Licenciatura en bibliotecología de la FIC, en las sedes de Montevideo y Paysandú. Para ello, recoge las percepciones de estudiantes y docentes guía, y las sitúa en el marco institucional concreto de la FIC-Udelar. Toma la teoría del diálogo de Bajtín y su círculo para estudiar las interacciones de las distintas dimensiones involucradas (estudiantes, docentes, el marco institucional de la FIC y el contexto disciplinar de la bibliotecología / ciencia de la información) y cómo dan lugar a la lectura y la producción de discursos académicos en el último tramo de la carrera. Considera que el estudiantado ocupa un espacio periférico de la comunidad disciplinar y que es a través de las prácticas letradas que empieza a familiarizarse e incorporarse a la cultura discursiva de la disciplina. En tal sentido, se preocupa por la comprensión lectora, las dificultades para expresarse oralmente y por escrito, y por los problemas para jerarquizar y seleccionar contenidos. Enfatiza, además, el cruce de la frontera discursiva que hace el estudiante al desarrollar su voz como autor (siempre en conversación “responsiva” con otros autores/textos anteriores y posteriores-presumidos, y tomando responsabilidad por su palabra propia).Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació

    Uniform circular motion in General Relativity: Existence and extendibility of the trajectories

    The notion of uniform circular motion in a general spacetime is introduced as a particular case of a planar motion. The initial value problem of the corresponding di erential equation is analysed in detail. Geometrically, an observer which obeys a uniform circular motion is characterized as a Lorentzian helix. The completeness of its inextensible trajectories is studied in Generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes and in a relevant family of pp-wave spacetimes. The results may be physically interpreted saying that, under reasonable assumptions, a uniformly circular observer lives forever in these spacetimes, providing the absence of the singularities de ned by these timelike curves

From a geometric viewpoint, a uniformly accelerated observer may be seen as a Lorentzian circle. Several risk factors have been identified as mortality and functional outcome estimators. Artificial intelligence(AI) enables handling high-dimensional and complex data. Neural networks (NN), an automated machine learning technique, can be trained with images and/or data to perform accurate predictions. This study aims to predict the functional outcome of SAH patients at three months using a NN-based algorithm that processes initial CT scan images and clinical features. Methods: Clinical features and CT scans of a multicentric retrospective cohort of SAH patients were analyzed. AUCMEDI, an open-source Python library, was used to create and train two different NNs: one based solely on images and the other incorporating clinical features (age and WFNS). The output variable was a dichotomized modified Rankin scale at 3 months(mRS): Good Outcome=mRS<4; Bad Outcome= mRS<4. The initial dataset was randomly split into training, validation, and test cohorts at a ratio of 70%-10%-20%. Results: Images and data from 219 patients were processed. 52.5% were female patients with a mean age of 57. 18.3% were idiopathic SAH. Median WFNS on admission was 2, and mortality was 28.8%. 54.3% of patients presented a good outcome at 3 months follow-up. Predicting neurological outcome, the model exclusively based on CT scan images (Accuracy=86%, F1=86% and AUC=0.89) outperformed the one based on images and clinical data (Accuracy=79%, F1=78% and AUC=0.87). Explainable Artificial Intelligence maps were built to highlight the areas the algorithm accounts on the CT scan in order to classify patients. Conclusions: Modern image processing techniques based on AI and NN make possible to predict neurological outcome in SAH patients with high accuracy using CT scan images as the only input. Models might be optimized by including more data and patients, therefore improving their performance on tasks beyond the skills of conventional clinical knowledge

    Proximal epithelioid sarcoma of the vulva. A rare neoplasm. A clinicopathological case

    Epithelioid sarcoma is a rare aggressive soft tissue sarcoma, which can be distal or proximal types. The classic form (distal-type) of epithelioid sarcoma mainly occurs in teenagers and young adults. A rarer form, called large-cell (proximal-type) epithelioid sarcoma, tends to be more aggressive and mainly affects adults. The proximal subtype mostly arises from the proximal pelvis, limbs, and genital tract. We report a case of a 59 -year-old female, presented with a progressively growing mass in the left labia majora. Gynecologic examination revealed a 2 cm mobile and painless mass that was not attached to deep planes. The histological study showed a multinodular tumor was seen comprising sheets of oval to polygonal cells with moderate amount of cytoplasm. Interspersed were larger, rhabdoid cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and prominent nucleoli. On IHC, the tumor cells showed positivity for EMA and CKAE1/AE3 and do not expressed INI-1 in the nucleus. All tumor cells were negative for S-100 protein and CD34. The histopathological diagnosis was soft tissue of the vulvar region with proximal epithelioid sarcoma. The patient received adjuvant external pelvic radiotherapy and brachytherapy in the vulvar bed. Currently, 3 years after diagnosis, the patient does not present signs of tumor recurrence in her controls. Due to its low incidence, there are no evidence-based diagnostic algorithms or published recommendations for treatment. The prognosis is generally poor. A wide excision with clear margins is imperative with options of post-operative CT/RT in individual cases during a close follow-upbehavior, as seen in our case

    Recursos audiovisuales en la educación en enfermería: revisión de la literatura

    Introduction: Audiovisual aids, as a teaching strategy, promote a change from the traditional educational system to an improved way of learning that integrates technological advances and resources to enhance education, this is why it is important to gather all the existent information about the topic, because we need to demonstrate and support its’ usage for the students development. Aim:Analyze the existent information about the impact that audiovisual aids have in the improvement or nursing teaching.Methodology: Systematic research in the Medina, CINAHL, EBSCO, SciELO, PubMed, LILACS and Cochrane databases. Using de PICo method and Health Science Descriptors (DeCS) in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Results: Seven experimental and quasi-experimental studies were selected, which showed that audiovisual aids helped in the improvement of declarative, contextual and attitudinal learning, nevertheless, they did not surpass the situated strategies such as simulations, authorized practices and interactive activities. Conclusion: The evidence showed that the use of audiovisual aids developed empathy and helped the students’ inner expression, however they are not able to outstep the constructive learning strategies by themselves.Introducción. Los recursos audiovisuales como estrategias de enseñanza fomentan el cambio de una educación tradicional hacia una que integra los cambios tecnológicos, la cual utiliza y dispone de los recursos para mejorar el aprendizaje, por lo que es necesario contar con la mejor evidencia disponible para apoyar su utilización en la formación de los estudiantes.Objetivo. Analizar la evidencia existente del impacto que tienen los recursos audiovisuales en el mejoramiento de la enseñanza en enfermería.Metodología. Búsqueda sistematizada en las bases de datos Medline, CINAHL, EBSCO, SciELO, ERIC, PubMed, LILACS y Cochrane. Utilizando el método PICo y Descriptores de Ciencias de la Salud (DeSC) en inglés, español y portugués.Resultados. Se seleccionaron 7 estudios experimentales y cuasi-experimentales dónde se observa que los recursos audiovisuales ayudan a mejorar el aprendizaje declarativo, contextual y actitudinal, sin embargo, no superan a las estrategias situadas como la simulación, práctica tutorizada y actividades interactivas.Conclusiones. La evidencia demuestra que el uso de los recursos audiovisuales desarrolla la empatía y favorece la expresión de la interioridad del alumno, sin embargo, por sí solos no superan a estrategias de aprendizaje constructivistas.
