Non-conservation of dimension in divergence-free solutions of passive and active scalar systems
For any , we give an explicit construction of a compactly
supported, uniformly continuous, and (weakly) divergence-free velocity field in
that weakly advects a measure whose support is initially the
origin but for positive times has Hausdorff dimension .
These velocities are uniformly continuous in space-time and compactly
supported, locally Lipschitz except at one point and satisfy the conditions for
the existence and uniqueness of a Regular Lagrangian Flow in the sense of Di
Perna and Lions theory.
We then construct active scalar systems in and
with measure-valued solutions whose initial support has co-dimension 2 but such
that at positive times it only has co-dimension 1. The associated velocities
are divergence free, compactly supported, continuous, and sufficiently regular
to admit unique Regular Lagrangian Flows.
This is in part motivated by the investigation of dimension conservation for
the support of measure-valued solutions to active scalar systems. This question
occurs in the study of vortex filaments in the three-dimensional Euler
equations.Comment: 32 pages, 3 figures. This preprint has not undergone peer review

On a class of n-Leibniz deformations of the simple Filippov algebras
We study the problem of the infinitesimal deformations of all real, simple,
finite-dimensional Filippov (or n-Lie) algebras, considered as a class of
n-Leibniz algebras characterized by having an n-bracket skewsymmetric in its
n-1 first arguments. We prove that all n>3 simple finite-dimensional Filippov
algebras are rigid as n-Leibniz algebras of this class. This rigidity also
holds for the Leibniz deformations of the semisimple n=2 Filippov (i.e., Lie)
algebras. The n=3 simple FAs, however, admit a non-trivial one-parameter
infinitesimal 3-Leibniz algebra deformation. We also show that the
simple Filippov algebras do not admit non-trivial central extensions as
n-Leibniz algebras of the above class.Comment: 19 pages, 30 refs., no figures. Some text rearrangements for better

Gauge invariant fluctuations of the metric during inflation from new scalar-tensor Weyl-Integrable gravity model
We investigate gauge invariant scalar fluctuations of the metric during
inflation in a non-perturbative formalism in the framework of a recently
introduced scalar-tensor theory of gravity formulated on a Weyl-Integrable
geometry. We found that the Weyl scalar field can play the role of the inflaton
field in this theory. As an application we study the case of a power law
inflation. In this case the quasi-scale invariance of the spectrum for scalar
fluctuations of the metric is achieved for determined values of the
parameter of the scalar-tensor theory. In our formalism the physical inflaton
field has a geometrical origin.Comment: 9 pages, no figures. This is a revised version accepted for

A gauge theory of quantum mechanics
An Abelian gerbe is constructed over classical phase space. The 2-cocycles
defining the gerbe are given by Feynman path integrals whose integrands contain
the exponential of the Poincare-Cartan form. The U(1) gauge group on the gerbe
has a natural interpretation as the invariance group of the Schroedinger
equation on phase space.Comment:
Phase and Charge reentrant phase transitions in two capacitively coupled Josephson arrays with ultra-small junction
We have studied the phase diagram of two capacitively coupled Josephson
junction arrays with charging energy, , and Josephson coupling energy,
. Our results are obtained using a path integral Quantum Monte Carlo
algorithm. The parameter that quantifies the quantum fluctuations in the i-th
array is defined by . Depending on
the value of , each independent array may be in the semiclassical or
in the quantum regime: We find that thermal fluctuations are important when
and the quantum fluctuations dominate when . We have extensively studied the interplay between vortex and charge
dominated individual array phases. The two arrays are coupled via the
capacitance at each site of the lattices. We find a {\it
reentrant transition} in , at low temperatures, when one of
the arrays is in the semiclassical limit (i.e. ) and the
quantum array has , for the values considered for
the interlayer capacitance. In addition, when , and
for all the inter-layer couplings considered above, a {\it novel} reentrant
phase transition occurs in the charge degrees of freedom, i.e. there is a
reentrant insulating-conducting transition at low temperatures. We obtain the
corresponding phase diagrams and found some features that resemble those seen
in experiments with 2D JJA.Comment: 25 Latex pages including 8 encapsulated poscript figures. Accepted

Combined Effects of the North Atlantic Oscillation and the Arctic Oscillation on Sea Surface Temperature in the Alborán Sea
We explored the possible effects of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and Arctic Oscillation (AO) on interannual sea
surface temperature (SST) variations in the Albora´n Sea, both separately and combined. The probability of observing mean
annual SST values higher than average was related to NAO and AO values of the previous year. The effect of NAO on SST
was negative, while that of AO was positive. The pure effects of NAO and AO on SST are obscuring each other, due to the
positive correlation between them. When decomposing SST, NAO and AO in seasonal values, we found that variation in
mean annual SST and mean winter SST was significantly related to the mean autumn NAO of the previous year, while mean
summer SST was related to mean autumn AO of the previous year. The one year delay in the effect of the NAO and AO on
the SST could be partially related to the amount of accumulated snow, as we found a significant correlation between the
total snow in the North Albora´n watershed for a year with the annual average SST of the subsequent year. A positive AO
implies a colder atmosphere in the Polar Regions, which could favour occasional cold waves over the Iberian Peninsula
which, when coupled with precipitations favoured by a negative NAO, may result in snow precipitation. This snow may be
accumulated in the high peaks and melt down in spring-summer of the following year, which consequently increases the
runoff of freshwater to the sea, which in turn causes a diminution of sea surface salinity and density, and blocks the local
upwelling of colder water, resulting in a higher SST.CGL2009-11316 (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, Spain, and FEDER
