    Signalling in voice over IP Networks

    Voice signalling protocols have evolved, keeping with the prevalent move from circuit to packet switched networks. Standardization bodies have provided solutions for carrying voice traffic over packet networks while the main manufacturers are already providing products in workgroup, enterprise, or operator portfolio. This trend will accrue in next years due to the evolution of UMTS mobile networks to an “all-IP” environment. In this paper we present the various architectures that are proposed for signalling in VoIP, mainly: H.323, SIP and MGCP. We also include a brief summary about signalling in classical telephone networks and, at the end, we give some ideas about the proposed “all-IP” architectures in UMTS 3G mobile networks.Publicad

    Integranting prosodic information into a speech recogniser

    In the last decade there has been an increasing tendency to incorporate language engineering strategies into speech technology. This technique combines linguistic and mathematical information in different applications: machine translation, natural language processing, speech synthesis and automatic speech recognition (ASR). In the field of speech synthesis, this hybrid approach (linguistic and mathematical/statistical) has led to the design of efficient models for reproducing the acoustic features of natural language. However, the incorporation of language engineering strategies into ASR is only beginning. In this paper, we present a theoretical framework for the integration of linguistic information into an ASR system. The objective is to design a model which can detect the suprasegmental features of the speech input, mainly those related to the fundamental frequency (F0) that can clarify the functionality of pauses, intonation contour, and interruptions. La propuesta tiene como objetivo incentivar mediante un ciclo de mejora docente (CMD) de 7 horas el desarrollo del espíritu crítico mediante el método investigativo y el trabajo en equipo en un contexto de clase silenciosa por parte del docente.     Multicast traffic aggregation in MPLS-based VPN networks

    This article gives an overview of the current practical approaches under study for a scalable implementation of multicast in layer 2 and 3 VPNs over an IP-MPLS multiservice network. These proposals are based on a well-known technique: the aggregation of traffic into shared trees to manage the forwarding state vs. bandwidth saving trade-off. This sort of traffic engineering mechanism requires methods to estimate the resources needed to set up a multicast shared tree for a set of VPNs. The methodology proposed in this article consists of studying the effect of aggregation obtained by random shared tree allocation on a reference model of a representative network scenario.Publicad

    The role of the electrolyte on the SERS spectra of pyridine

    SERS spectra of pyridine has been recorded on a silver electrode in a potential range from 0.0 to -1.20 V with a saline solution, pyridine / KCl (0.1M / 0.1M), by using the 514.5 nm exciting line by us [1]. Under these experimental conditions, the maximum intensity of the enhanced 8a and 9a bands is reached at -0.75 V and -1.20 V, respectively, being the 9a band what dominates the spectrum at negative electrode potential. Although this behavior has been explained under a resonant charge transfer mechanism, the nature of the electronic resonance processes involved in the enhancement of each band is different. The 8a band is enhanced due to an electronic excitation between the ground and excited charge transfer electronic state of the metal-adsorbate surface complex, while the activity of the 9a band is due to a plasmon-like excitation taking into account an overall electronic structure of small metal clusters [2] which is able to selectively modify the relative intensities of specific SERS band. We intend now to record pyridine SERS spectra under the same experimental conditions but varying only the type of electrolyte in order to check how it affects the relative intensities and vibrational wavenumbers of the bands as well as the electrode potential to which the enhanced bands reach the maximum intensity. Different electrolytes like KCl, NaCl, KBr, NaBr and Na2SO4, have been selected in such way that allows us to compare SERS spectra in which changes only the cation or the anion of the electrolyte. From the analysis of all these SERS spectra, it can be concluded that no significant wavenumbers shifts have been detected, while the relative intensities of the bands and the electrode potential to which the maximum intensity is reached are slightly modified. NaBr electrolyte requieres more negative electrode potential in order to enhance the 8a and 9a bands and to resolve the 12 and 1 pair.     Incidence and type of bicuspid aortic valve in two model species. Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most frequent human congenital cardiac malformation, with an incidence of 1–2% worldwide. Two morphological types exist: type A (incidence 0.75–1.25%) and type B (incidence 0.25–0.5%), each with a distinct aetiology and natural history. Currently, ten animal models of BAV have been described in two different rodent species: one spontaneous Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) model of BAV type A and nine mutant laboratory mouse (Mus musculus) models of BAV type B. It remains to be elucidated whether the mutations leading to BAV in these models are typespecific or whether there are inter-specific differences regarding the type of BAV that hamsters, mice and humans may develop. To solve this issue, we have characterized the incidence and types of BAVs in four inbred, two outbred and two hybrid lines of Syrian hamsters (n=4,340) and in three inbred, three outbred and one hybrid lines of laboratory mice (n=1,661) by means of stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. In addition, we have reviewed and calculated the incidence and type of BAVs in the published papers dealing with this anomaly in mice. Our results indicate that the Syrian hamster develops BAVs type A and B including a variety of morphologies comparable to those of humans, whereas the mouse develops only BAVs type B with a short spectrum of valve morphologies. Thus, inter-specific differences between human and mouse aortic valves must be taken into consideration when studying valve disease in murine models.     Electrochemical SERS spectra of isonicotinic acid analyzed under a photoinduced charge-transfer mechanism

    Isonicotinic (IN) acid is one of the three monocarboxilic derivatives of pyridine in which the acid group is located in para-position of the heterocyclic ring. It is a weak acid (pK2=4.86) and therefore, it is not completely ionized in neutral aqueous solutions, being the zwitterion and the anion the majority chemical species at neutral pH. In acidic solutions (pK1=1.84) the pyridinic nitrogen atom can be protonated yielding a third chemical species with positive charge [1]. In addition, IN acid shows two functional centres that can interact with the silver metallic surface such as the carboxilate group and the aromatic nitrogen atom. Therefore, the analysis of the SERS spectra of IN has been focused on identifying the chemical species adsorbed on the silver surface and its centre of interaction by considering the participation of a photoinduced charge-transfer (CT) mechanism in each particular SERS record as we have previously detected in the SERS of pyridine derivatives [2]. SERS spectra of the IN acid (5x10-3 M) have been recorded on silver at electrode potentials ranging from 0.00 up to -1.00 V and at different pH by using 0.1 M Na2SO4 aqueous solution as electrolyte. The figure shows the SERS recorded at basic pH. The experimental set up is described elsewhere and the excitation line of 514.5 nm wavelength was used. [2].     Aplicaciones topográficas para el control de vertederos

    Accèssit treball final de carrera d'enginyer tècnic en topografia Luis Martín Morejón, edició 2010, curs acadèmic 2008/09El objetivo de nuestro proyecto es mostrar las diferentes aplicaciones de la topografía en un ámbito poco conocido como es el caso de un vertedero controlado, donde entran numerosos conocimientos adquiridos durante la carrera. Estos trabajos han sido realizados en el Abocador de Bufalvent, gestionado por la Cooperativa per la Gestió de residus del Bages. Para llevarlo a cabo ha sido necesaria la implantación de una red de bases con coordenadas UTM, Sistema de Referencia ED50 y alturas referidas al nivel medio del mar en Alicante, cuyo proceso de obtención aparece en el contenido de esta memoria. Desde estas bases han sido realizadas una serie de observaciones mensuales de los puntos de asentamiento que existen repartidos por todo el vertedero, tanto por topografía clásica como por técnicas GPS, de esta forma se ha podido escoger cual de los dos métodos es el más adecuado para este tipo de observaciones. Se ha realizado un levantamiento topográfico a escala 1/1000 de las instalaciones del vertedero mediante técnicas GPS y seis meses después una actualización de dicho levantamiento en la zona de trabajo para, de esta forma, poder realizar los cálculos de los movimientos de tierra llevados a cabo durante este periodo de tiempo y a su vez comparar las cotas actuales con las del proyecto de clausura del vertedero.Award-winnin
