Methods: 125 cylindrical bone specimens from pig mandibular ramus bone were prepared using terphane burs and cemented to the corticals of 125 other specimens obtained from pig mandibular body bone using the following bond systems: Group A: Adper PLP/Relyx; group B: Optibond/Maxcem; group C: Hystoacryl; group D: AdheSE/Multilink; group E: G-Bond/G-Cem. Shear bond strength was measured 15 min after cement application using a universal testing machine. Results: Shear bond strength results: group A 2.54 ± 0.23 MPa; group B 4.83 ± 0.4 MPa; group C 2.90 ± 0.24 MPa; group D 2.10 ± 0.17 MPa; group E 4.22 ± 0.24 MPa. Values for shear bond strength were significantly greater for group B and E compared to groups A, C and D (p < 0.005, test Mann–Whitney). SEM images showed the presence of a hybrid layer similar to that formed by these bond systems when used on dentine. Conclusion: Within the limitations of an in vitro investigation, results show that self-etching resin cements together with self-etching adhesives may be used for cementing bone fragments

This document is the Published version of a Published Work that appeared in final form in Avances en Odontoestomatología. Introduction: The cicatrizal pemphigoid is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease, subepithelial blistering disorder, benign, that affects mainly to mucous membranes. Objective: The main aim of this article is to show the pursuit of the local (dental and mucous) and systemic changes that have happened for15 year in a patient who suffers from cicatrizal pemphigoid. Clinical case: We report the case of a 65 year old woman, with arterial hypertension controlled by medicines, with no other interesting medical record. There are neither any known allergies nor any toxic habits. She suffers from erosive and blister lesions in gums, palate and cheek mucous, without any affectation on other mucous or skin. At present she' s in a period of prothetic rehabilitation. Discussion. 15 year-old treatments on this patient are going to be discussed and analysed in this article, both their level of fulfilment and the complications that have been appearing

Natural Coumarins: Exploring the Pharmacological Complexity and Underlying Molecular Mechanisms

    Get PDF
Coumarins belong to the benzopyrone family commonly found in many medicinal plants. Natural coumarins demonstrated a wide spectrum of pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, anticancer, antibacterial, antimalarial, casein kinase-2 (CK2) inhibitory, antifungal, antiviral, Alzheimer's disease inhibition, neuroprotective, anticonvulsant, phytoalexins, ulcerogenic, and antihypertensive. There are very few studies on the bioavailability of coumarins; therefore, further investigations are necessitated to study the bioavailability of different coumarins which already showed good biological activities in previous studies. On the evidence of varied pharmacological properties, the present work presents an overall review of the derivation, availability, and biological capacities of coumarins with further consideration of the essential mode of their therapeutic actions. In conclusion, a wide variety of coumarins are available, and their pharmacological activities are of current interest thanks to their synthetic accessibility and riches in medicinal plants. Coumarins perform the valuable function as therapeutic agents in a range of medical fields

Shipping amphorae and shipping sheep? Livestock mobility in the north-east Iberian peninsula during the Iron Age based on strontium isotopic analyses of sheep and goat tooth enamel

Animal mobility is a common strategy to overcome scarcity of food and the related over-grazing of pastures. It is also essential to reduce the inbreeding rate of animal populations, which is known to have a negative impact on fertility and productivity. The present paper shows the geographic range of sheep provisioning in different phases of occupation at the Iron Age site of Turó de la Font de la Canya (7th to 3rd centuries BC). Strontium isotope ratios from 34 archaeological sheep and goat enamel, two archaeological bones and 14 modern tree leaves are presented. The isotopic results suggest that sheep and goats consumed at the site were reared locally (within a few kilometres radius) during the whole period of occupation. The paper discusses the isotopic results in light of the socio-political structure of this period, as complex, strongly territorial societies developed during the Iron Age in the north-east Iberian Peninsula

Diabetes mellitus and oral lichen planus: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective: To undertake a meta-analysis of the association of Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) with diabetes, two diseases with an important impact on public health and the economy, but the evidence of which about their association is inconsistent. Methods: Relevant studies were localized by searching MEDLINE, EMBASE, Conference Proceedings, and other databases from inception to October 2020, without restrictions. The reference lists of included studies and of related reviews were also inspected. Global pooled odds ratios were calculated, and predefined subgroup analyses were performed. The heterogeneity between studies and publication bias was assessed and sensitivity analysis was carried out. Results: Thirty-two studies were included in the meta-analysis. Pooled ORs showed a moderate association between diabetes and OLP [OR: 1.87 (95%CI: 1.57, 2.34)]. The association is limited to studies carried out on adults only [OR: 2.12 (95%CI: 1.75, 2.57)] and is observed in all study designs. Globally, the heterogeneity was low to moderate. Studies carried out in European populations show a stronger association of diabetes and OLP than Asiatic studies [OR: 2.49 (95%CI: 1.87, 3.32) and 1.60 (95%CI: 1.25, 2.03), respectively]. Conclusions: Diabetes and OLP are moderately associated. Systematic diagnosis of diabetes in OLP patients could prove usefulS

The dental professions hold an important responsibility in the control of oral cancer and the early diagnosis highly depends on their knowledge. The present study was developed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of dentists in Khartoum State regarding oral cancer prevention and early detection. An administered questionnaire was structured and sent to all licensed 130 dentists working in public dental clinics in Khartoum State. Responses to the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics. Although the majority of the dentists were knowledgeable about the major risk factors of oral cancer, more than half of the dentists reported they do not carry out any special examination to detect oral cancer in age 40 and above in asymptomatic patients. Dentists indicated their lack of training as the main barrier for conducting a comprehensive oral cancer examination. Interestingly, the vast majority of the dentists express their interest to have further oral cancer educational and training sessions. The findings of the present study suggested strongly that educational and training interventions are necessary to enhance preventive measures which may lead to reduce mortality and morbidity from oral cancer
