The case of a family of four members is presented. Starting from a stroke suffered by the mother three years ago, there was a change of roles and the emergence of family conflicts. After assessment, the family agreed that the problems were not just something of the mother, but involved a dysfunctional family dynamics. The therapy was applied over 24 sessions plus some parallel individual brief contacts, and included development of empathy, skills training in communication, negotiation and problem solving, cognitive restructuring, and enhancement of positive affect and pleasurable activities. According to the family and therapists, the proposed objectives were largely achieved, and this was endorsed by several questionnaires. The improvements were maintained at 10-months follow-up. Good results could be explained by the large family motivation for change, good therapeutic relationship and the application of empirically supported technique

This study analysed the capacity of emergency physicians and nurses working in the city of Granada (Spain) to respond to intimate partner violence (IPV) against women, and the mediating role of certain factors and opinions towards certain sexist myths in the detection of cases. This is a cross-sectional study employing the physician readiness to manage intimate partner violence survey (PREMIS) between October 2020 and January 2021, with 164 surveys analysed. Descriptive and analytical statistics were applied, designing three multivariate regression models by considering opinions about different sexist myths. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were considered for the detection of cases. In the past six months, 34.8% of professionals reported that they had identified some cases of IPV, particularly physicians (OR = 2.47, 95% CI = 1.14–5.16; OR = 2.65, 95% CI = 1.26–5.56). Those who did not express opinions towards sexist myths related to the understanding of the victim or the consideration of alcohol/drug abuse as the main causes of violence and showed a greater probability of detecting a case (NS) (OR = 1.26 and OR = 1.65, respectively). In order to confirm the indicia found, further research is required, although there tends to be a common opinion towards the certain sexual myth of emergency department professionals not having an influence on IPV against women.Support and Promotion of Research on Equality and Inclusion, programme 50 of the Research and Transfer Plan (University of Granada

Dracon: An Open-Hardware Based Platform for Single-Chip Low-Cost Reconfigurable IoT Devices

    Get PDF
The development of devices for the Internet of Things (IoT) requires the rapid prototyping of different hardware configurations. In this paper, a modular hardware platform allowing to prototype, test and even implement IoT appliances on low-cost reconfigurable devices is presented. The proposed platform, named Dracon, includes a Z80-clone microprocessor, up to 64 KB of RAM, and 256 inputs/outputs (I/Os). These I/Os can be used to connect additional co-processors within the same FPGA, external co-processors, communications modules, sensors and actuators. Dracon also includes as default peripherals a UART for programming and accessing the microprocessor, a Real Time Clock, and an Interrupt Timer. The use of an 8-bit microprocessor allows the use of the internal memory of the reconfigurable device as program memory, thereby, enabling the implementation of a complete IoT device within a single low-cost chip. Indeed, results using a Spartan 7 FPGA show that it is possible to implement Dracon with only 1515 6-input LUTs while operating at a maximum frequency of 80 MHz, which results in a better trade-off in terms of area and performance than other less powerful and less versatile alternatives in the literature. Moreover, the presented platform allows the development of embedded software applications independently of the selected FPGA device, enabling rapid prototyping and implementations on devices from different manufacturers.Junta de AndaluciaEuropean Commission B-TIC-588-UGR2
