    Canna Tubers (Canna edulis Ker.) is one of the plants producing carbohydrates. Its  also contains of protein, fat, vitamins, minerals,  phosphorus, iron and more calciums. The purpose of  this study is to identify of  sugar  in the powder and starch from canna tuber is a hydrolysis and didn’t hydrolysis. The method of qualitative analysis with tube test  and  Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The result indicated that before hydrolysis  canna powder  gave  sucrose (Rf = 0.45) and mannose (Rf=0.51), while after hydrolysis it gave  glucose (Rf=0.44), fructose (Rf=0.61) and mannose (Rf=0.51). In addition, canna starch gave   glucose (Rf=0.44) and maltose (Rf=0.35)

    Cantaloupe (Cucumis melo var. Cantalupensis L.), a fruit containing some compounds, have activity to protect human body from free radical. The beta carotene (provitamin A) was recognized as antioxidant compound. Antioxidants could protect the body from cardiovascular damage caused by free radical. The aims of this study was to determine the levels of beta carotene and antioxidant activity (IC50) from Cucumis melo var. cantalupensis L. extract using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. Cantaloupe was extracted using n-hexan-acetone-methanol ratio (2: 1: 1). Identification of beta carotene was performed using 25% antimony trichloride reagent followed by TLC and UV-Vis spectrum test compared with beta carotene as standard. The content of beta carotene and free radical scavenging activity was measured spectrophotometrically at 425 nm. The beta carotene level of cantaloupe was 3.171 ± 0.150 %. The antioxidant activity, presented as IC50 value of cantaloupe extract, was 12.137±0.44 µg/mL and the antioxidant activity of standard beta carotene was 2.15 ± 0.172 µg/mL. The cantaloupe extract contained beta carotene compunds but the antioxidant activity of extract was lower than beta carotene standard

    Objective: The aim of this research to design the discriminant method of pork and beef meatball using high-pressure liquid chromatographyultraviolet (HPLC-UV) combined with principal component analysis.Methods: The 100% pork and 100% beef meatball was analyzed using HPLC-UV. The all chromatogram data from HPLC were processed using chemometrics method especially principal component analysis for discriminant the pork and beef meatball.Results: The results showed that the beef and pork meatball can be distinguished using HPLC which was combined principal component analysis. However, the application of HPLC has a problem for lard detection in meatball because cannot to control the hydrolysis of triglyceride (TGA). Hydrolysis of TGA can also be detected using HPLC-UV and giving the interference for halal authentication.Conclusion: The discriminant process of pork and beef meatball using HPLC-UV has a problem in TGA analysis. The TGA will be hydrolyzed to diglycerides, monoglyseride, and fatty acid form. All products from hydrolysis of TGA will give the interference in the discriminant process

    Antibacterial Activity of Extract Combination Gel of Cherry Leaf (Muntingia calabura L.) and Beluntas Leaf (Pluchea indica L.) againts Staphylococcus aureus

    Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) infection is a critical problem, in health care because there are S. aureus found that are resistant to antibiotics. Some alternative treatments of infection include herbal plants such as cherry (Muntingia calabura L.) and beluntas (Pluchea indica L.) leaves since they contain antibacterial compounds. Cherry and beluntas leaves are formulated in gel form since they are easy to use. This study aims to determine the physical properties, microbial contamination and antibacterial activity of the gel preparation. Combination of cherry leaf extract and beluntas leaf extract with a concentration ratio of 2.5: 0.5 was formulated in gel preparations with concentrations of 3%, 6% and 12%. The gel was later tested for physical properties including tests for organoleptic, pH, spreadity diameter, adhesity, and viscosity. The gel was also tested for the number of yeasts and antibacterial activity by the agar well diffusion method. The results were analyzed with SPSS 20.0.0 with One-way ANOVA. The results of the physical properties test for the gel preparation for viscosity were: (5666.18; 6369.23; and 8540.11) cps, the pH value was (7.58; 7.11; and 6.45), the scattering diameter was ( 6.16; 5.88; and 5.00) cm, the value of adhesity (74.66; 80.99; and 98.18) seconds, respectively. The test results of the yeast mold number  obtained 3x102 CFU/mL. The results of the inhibition zone diameters were (6.00; 7.90; and 10.00) mm, respectively. Based on these research findings, the difference in extract concentration affects the physical properties of the gel. The gel formula with a 12% concentration has physical properties reaching the requirements, meets the requirements for the value of yeast mold numbers, and provides the most optimal antibacterial activity

Sabun mandi yang sering kita jumpai menurut bentuknya ada 2 macam, yaitu sabun batangan (padat) dan sabun cair . Seiring perkembangan jaman sabun banyak sekali kita temukan jenis sabun mandi dengan beraneka raga bentuk dan bau yang khas. Selain sabun dapat digunakan untuk mandi dapat pula dimanfaatkan sebagai obat maupun pewangi dalam ruangan maupun souvenir. Tujuan dari pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu memberdayakan masyarakat melalui pembuatan sabun handmade untuk meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat. Metode yang digunakan yaitu berupa penyuluhan dan praktek pembuatan serta pengemasan sabun sehingga sabun siap untuk di konsumsi. Antusias dari peserta pada saat mengikuti kegiatan ini sangat bagus. Masyarakt tertarik untuk membuat dan mengembangkan usaha pembuatan sabun sabun ini untuk menambah penghasilan dalam keluarga

    PENETAPAN KADAR FENOLIK TOTAL DAN AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN KOPI KAWA DENGAN METODE DPPH

    Antioksidan merupakan senyawa yang mampu menghambat laju oksidasi dalamtubuh. Antioksidan sintetik dapat menimbulkan efek samping pada kesehatantubuh sehingga penggunaan antioksidan alami sebagai pengganti semakindiminati masyarakat karena dipercaya lebih aman. Salah satu golongan senyawaalami yang bersifat sebagai antioksidan adalah golongan fenolik. Daun kopi kawamengandung flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, kafein, dan polifenol. Penelitian inibertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar fenol total dan harga Effective Scavenging(ES)50 ekstrak etanol daun kopi kawa. Daun kopi kawa diekstraksi menggunakanmetode maserasi. Ekstrak kental diuji kandungan fenoliknya dengan reagen Folin-Ciocalteu dan standar asam galat. Hasil uji kandungan fenolik total dinyatakandengan kesetaraan asam galat per gram ekstrak (GAE/g ekstrak). Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan ekstrak etanol daun kopi kawa memiliki kandungan senyawafenolik total sebesar 55,87 mg GAE/g ekstrak. Ekstrak etanol daun kopi kawamemiliki aktivitas antioksidan dengan nilai ES50 sebesar 57,79 μg/mL sedangkanuntuk standar asam galat memiliki nilai ES50 sebesar 1,54 μg/mL. Hasil tersebutmenunjukkan ekstrak etanol daun kopi kawa memiliki aktivitas yang kuat sebagaiantioksidan
