In this paper, an innovative thought on the philosophical and psychological view on why people want to see suspense thrillers was presented. This view was presented on the basis of the Lacanian theory of psychoanalysis in relation to Lacanian film theory and the notion of suspense. The innovative thought was presented by using the example of a suspense thriller, namely the psychotraumatic thriller Psycho. In this paper reasons for the theoretical basis were laid out, together with particular emphasis on the issue of a momentary satisfaction of the feeling of lack by the resolution of the suspense in the suspense thriller. The feeling of lack was explained according to the Lacanian psychoanalytical theory. It was said that the feeling of lack originates during the mirror phase, where the child becomes aware for the first time that he/she is not one with his/her mother. The feeling of lack is associated with the drive of desire that one has from this developmental phase onwards. As already stated this drive is eternal and there is no real substitute for the feeling of lack. However, a momentary satisfaction is possible, through the thrills and suspense and the resolution of this suspense as was illustrated by the example of the suspense thriller, Psycho, by Alfred Hitchcock

Sociological approach to the analysis of the regional society preferences in modern clothing styles

The article considers various aspects of a sociological study on the preferences of the population in fashionable clothes. Based on the well-known scientific literature on fashion as a social phenomenon, Remarks have been made on the need for reconsidering some theoretical position in the post-industrial era, as most of the public life is transferred to the media space, the Internet, and the way celebrities dress becomes the object of intent attention of the mass audience. It has been pointed out that the modern information age has changed the ratio of the importance of individuals by gender in the direction of some increase in the status of the social category of women in public relations, but at the same time their need for self-presentation through fashionable clothes has not decreased. It has been substantiated that applied sociological research in order to study preferences in fashionable clothes of different categories of society can clearly illustrate many characteristics of social life, such as economic, activity, psychological, ideological, etc. Also, the level of interest in fashion can indirectly inform about the level of social consolidation, or the abnormal state of society. In addition to the analysis of theoretical sources, a sociological survey method has been used in the form of a questionnaire (100 women of two age categories have been interviewed). The survey included questions about their preferences for clothing styles in everyday life and about the interest in aesthetics in the clothing of media persons. One of the main results of research is the conclusion that the respondents’ conscious attitude to fashion illustrates a high level of their socialization and socially active attitude to life

The development of hemispheric asymmetry in human motion VEPs

AbstractIn six healthy adults we examined the sources underlying P1 and N2 of the motion VEP. For this purpose we acquired, in addition to the VEP, MRI images and patterns of regional cerebral blood flow with SPECT for three of the subjects. With the same motion stimulus we also examined the spatial distribution of N2 in children. In both adults and children left and right half-field responses were compared. It was found that N2 is generated by extrastriate activity and that motion stimuli are not equivalently processed in the two cerebral hemispheres. In adults, N2 dominates in one hemisphere irrespective of the visual half-field used for stimulation whereas children show an ipsilateral maximum for N2 upon half-field presentation

Handmade as a resource of social and cultural development of modern society

The article deals with the issue of handmade – a form of individual manual labor to create original applied or artistic products – as a resource of the social and cultural life of modern society. The relevance of the research is determined by the need for a person to have ways to show their uniqueness in the conditions of total mass production and social interactions. Based on the results of a sociological survey, the activity, motivational, psychological, economic and communication aspects of handmade have been clarified. The main conclusions of the research are the following: the possibilities of handicraft work in the utilitarian-applied and artistic-aesthetic fields of activity are most clearly manifested; handmade is a significant element for a large number of people in the organization of a positive communication space; in a mass society, needlework is a way of constructing and representing personal identity. The most significant function of handmade is the function of changing the type of activity in order to prevent emotional burnout in the conditions of concentrated information flows and the rapid pace of production and economic life

Improved Adhesion, Growth and Maturation of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells on Polyethylene Grafted with Bioactive Molecules and Carbon Particles

High-density polyethylene (PE) foils were modified by an Ar+ plasma discharge and subsequent grafting with biomolecules, namely glycine (Gly), polyethylene glycol (PEG), bovine serum albumin (BSA), colloidal carbon particles (C) or BSA and C (BSA + C). As revealed by atomic force microscopy (AFM), goniometry and Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS), the surface chemical structure and surface morphology of PE changed dramatically after plasma treatment. The contact angle decreased for the samples treated by plasma, mainly in relation to the formation of oxygen structures during plasma irradiation. A further decrease in the contact angle was obvious after glycine and PEG grafting. The increase in oxygen concentration after glycine and PEG grafting proved that the two molecules were chemically linked to the plasma-activated surface. Plasma treatment led to ablation of the PE surface layer, thus the surface morphology was changed and the surface roughness was increased. The materials were then seeded with vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) derived from rat aorta and incubated in a DMEM medium with fetal bovine serum. Generally, the cells adhered and grew better on modified rather than on unmodified PE samples. Immunofluorescence showed that focal adhesion plaques containing talin, vinculin and paxillin were most apparent in cells on PE grafted with PEG or BSA + C, and the fibres containing α-actin, β-actin or SM1 and SM2 myosins were thicker, more numerous and more brightly stained in the cells on all modified PE samples than on pristine PE. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) revealed increased concentrations of focal adhesion proteins talin and vinculin and also a cytoskeletal protein β-actin in cells on PE modified with BSA + C. A contractile protein α-actin was increased in cells on PE grafted with PEG or Gly. These results showed that PE activated with plasma and subsequently grafted with bioactive molecules and colloidal C particles, especially with PEG and BSA + C, promotes the adhesion, proliferation and phenotypic maturation of VSMC

AbstractIntroductionThe aim of the EuReCa ONE study was to determine the incidence, process, and outcome for out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) throughout Europe.MethodsThis was an international, prospective, multi-centre one-month study. Patients who suffered an OHCA during October 2014 who were attended and/or treated by an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) were eligible for inclusion in the study. Data were extracted from national, regional or local registries.ResultsData on 10,682 confirmed OHCAs from 248 regions in 27 countries, covering an estimated population of 174 million. In 7146 (66%) cases, CPR was started by a bystander or by the EMS. The incidence of CPR attempts ranged from 19.0 to 104.0 per 100,000 population per year. 1735 had ROSC on arrival at hospital (25.2%), Overall, 662/6414 (10.3%) in all cases with CPR attempted survived for at least 30 days or to hospital discharge.ConclusionThe results of EuReCa ONE highlight that OHCA is still a major public health problem accounting for a substantial number of deaths in Europe.EuReCa ONE very clearly demonstrates marked differences in the processes for data collection and reported outcomes following OHCA all over Europe. Using these data and analyses, different countries, regions, systems, and concepts can benchmark themselves and may learn from each other to further improve survival following one of our major health care events
