Crossing disciplines: do architecture and planning course leaders see value in a Public Health Practitioner in Residence programme?
Highlights• We study a public health residency in a university architecture and planning department.• We assess the benefits of the residency from the perspective of the teaching staff.• The residency was successful at introducing public health issues and concepts to students.• There appeared to be a gap in the staff's understanding of public health concerns
'Working out’ identity: distance runners and the management of disrupted identity
This article contributes fresh perspectives to the empirical literature on the sociology of the body, and of leisure and identity, by analysing the impact of long-term injury on the identities of two amateur but serious middle/long-distance runners. Employing a symbolic interactionist framework,and utilising data derived from a collaborative autoethnographic project, it explores the role
of ‘identity work’ in providing continuity of identity during the liminality of long-term injury and
rehabilitation, which poses a fundamental challenge to athletic identity. Specifically, the analysis
applies Snow and Anderson’s (1995) and Perinbanayagam’s (2000) theoretical conceptualisations
in order to examine the various forms of identity work undertaken by the injured participants, along
the dimensions of materialistic, associative and vocabularic identifications. Such identity work was
found to be crucial in sustaining a credible sporting identity in the face of disruption to the running
self, and in generating momentum towards the goal of restitution to full running fitness and reengagement
with a cherished form of leisure.

Inclusive dielectron production in proton-proton collisions at 2.2 GeV beam energy
Data on inclusive dielectron production are presented for the reaction p+p at
2.2 GeV measured with the High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer (HADES). Our
results supplement data obtained earlier in this bombarding energy regime by
DLS and HADES. The comparison with the 2.09 GeV DLS data is discussed. The
reconstructed e+e- distributions are confronted with simulated pair cocktails,
revealing an excess yield at invariant masses around 0.5 GeV/c2. Inclusive
cross sections of neutral pion and eta production are obtained
Control over epitaxy and the role of the InAs/Al interface in hybrid two-dimensional electron gas systems
In-situ synthesised semiconductor/superconductor hybrid structures became an
important material platform in condensed matter physics. Their development
enabled a plethora of novel quantum transport experiments with focus on Andreev
and Majorana physics. The combination of InAs and Al has become the workhorse
material and has been successfully implemented in the form of one-dimensional
structures and two-dimensional electron gases. In contrast to the
well-developed semiconductor parts of the hybrid materials, the direct effect
of the crystal nanotexture of Al films on the electron transport still remains
unclear. This is mainly due to the complex epitaxial relation between Al and
the semiconductor. We present a study of Al films on shallow InAs
two-dimensional electron gas systems grown by molecular beam epitaxy, with
focus on control of the Al crystal structure. We identify the dominant grain
types present in our Al films and show that the formation of grain boundaries
can be significantly reduced by controlled roughening of the epitaxial
interface. Finally, we demonstrate that the implemented roughening does not
negatively impact either the electron mobility of the two-dimensional electron
gas or the basic superconducting properties of the proximitized system.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures and supplementary materia
Inclusive pion and eta production in p+Nb collisions at 3.5 GeV beam energy
Data on inclusive pion and eta production measured with the dielectron
spectrometer HADES in the reaction p+93Nb at a kinetic beam energy of 3.5 GeV
are presented. Our results, obtained with the photon conversion method,
supplement the rather sparse information on neutral meson production in
proton-nucleus reactions existing for this bombarding energy regime. The
reconstructed e+e-e+e- transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions are
confronted with transport model calculations, which account fairly well for

In-Medium Effects on K0 Mesons in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions
We present the transverse momentum spectra and rapidity distributions of
and K in Ar+KCl reactions at a beam kinetic energy of 1.756 A
GeV measured with the spectrometer HADES. The reconstructed K sample is
characterized by good event statistics for a wide range in momentum and
rapidity. We compare the experimental and K distributions to
predictions by the IQMD model. The model calculations show that K at low
tranverse momenta constitute a particularly well suited tool to investigate the
kaon in-medium potential. Our K data suggest a strong repulsive in-medium
K potential of about 40 MeV strength.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev.
Searching a Dark Photon with HADES
We present a search for the e+e- decay of a hypothetical dark photon, also
names U vector boson, in inclusive dielectron spectra measured by HADES in the
p (3.5 GeV) + p, Nb reactions, as well as the Ar (1.756 GeV/u) + KCl reaction.
An upper limit on the kinetic mixing parameter squared epsilon^{2} at 90% CL
has been obtained for the mass range M(U) = 0.02 - 0.55 GeV/c2 and is compared
with the present world data set. For masses 0.03 - 0.1 GeV/c^2, the limit has
been lowered with respect to previous results, allowing now to exclude a large
part of the parameter region favoured by the muon g-2 anomaly. Furthermore, an
improved upper limit on the branching ratio of 2.3 * 10^{-6} has been set on
the helicity-suppressed direct decay of the eta meson, eta-> e+e-, at 90% CL
Deep sub-threshold production in Ar+KCl reactions at 1.76A GeV
We report first results on a deep sub-threshold production of the doubly
strange hyperon in a heavy-ion reaction. At a beam energy of 1.76A GeV
the reaction Ar+KCl was studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron
Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. A high-statistics and high-purity
sample was collected, allowing for the investigation of the decay channel
