On the convergence of the gradient expansion in hydrodynamics

Hydrodynamic excitations corresponding to sound and shear modes in fluids are characterised by gapless dispersion relations. In the hydrodynamic gradient expansion, their frequencies are represented by power series in spatial momenta. We investigate the analytic structure and convergence properties of the hydrodynamic series by studying the associated spectral curve in the space of complexified frequency and complexified spatial momentum. For the strongly coupled ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills plasma, we use the holographic duality methods to demonstrate that the derivative expansions have finite non-zero radii of convergence. Obstruction to the convergence of hydrodynamic series arises from level-crossings in the quasinormal spectrum at complex momenta.Comment: V3: 5 pages, 2 figures. Final version. The complex life of hydrodynamic modes

We study analytic properties of the dispersion relations in classical hydrodynamics by treating them as Puiseux series in complex momentum. The radii of convergence of the series are determined by the critical points of the associated complex spectral curves. For theories that admit a dual gravitational description through holography, the critical points correspond to level-crossings in the quasinormal spectrum of the dual black hole. We illustrate these methods in ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in 3+1 dimensions, in a holographic model with broken translation symmetry in 2+1 dimensions, and in conformal field theory in 1+1 dimensions. We comment on the pole-skipping phenomenon in thermal correlation functions, and show that it is not specific to energy density correlations.Comment: V3: 54 pages, 18 figures. Appendix added. Problems of the origin and functioning of the ukrainian scientific and technical disco

У статті порушено питання про сучасний стан українського науково-технічного мовлення. Визначено, що на його формування і функціювання впливала низка негативних чинників, з-поміж яких основними були різноманітні заборони на використання української мови (у книгодрукуванні, освіті, офіційному спілкуванні) у царській Росії та в радянський період. Зазначено, що за роки незалежності в Україні було досягнуто певного прогресу щодо формування та функціювання українського науково-технічного мовлення (проведено низку конференцій, присвячених дослідженню проблем української термінології i науково-технічного мовлення; збільшився обсяг науково-технічної літератури, друкованої українською мо- вою; українську мову почали більш активно використовувати в ланках освіти (як середній, так i вищій); зросла кількість різноманітних лексикографічних видань (двомовних технічних словників, довідників, ен- циклопедій i т. ін.): українську мову впроваджують в обслуговування виробничих процесів різноманітних галузей). Водночас аналіз загального стану розвитку та функціювання українського науково-технічного мовлення засвідчив, що на сучасному етапі його не можна вважати задовільним. У цьому зв’язку запропоновано низку заходів соціально-політичного i лінгвістичного характеру, що спрямовані на підвищення рівня українського науково-технічного мовлення (впровадження української мови в усі сфери науки i техніки України; збільшення обсягу україномовної науково-технічної літератури; вироблення теоретичних засад формування i функціювання української термінології i науково-технічного мовлення; укладання лексикографічних джерел науково-технічного характеру; переклад українською мовою популярних закордонних наукових i технічних видань; стандартизація української наукової i технічної термінології). (The paper is dedicated to the analysis of the actual state of the Ukrainian scientific and technical discourse. It was found out that its formation was influenced by a number of negative factors among which different types of banning of the Ukrainian language usage in tzarist Russia and in the Soviet period. Although much has been done to improve the state of academic discourse within the years of Ukrainian Independence, its general state is not considered to be satisfactory. In this regard, a number of measures of socio-political and linguistic character, aimed at improving Ukrainian scientific and technical language are proposed.

The experience of introduction of E-learning into the English course for post-graduates at NTU "KhPI" is discussed. The major advantages of blended education in studying a foreign language are analyzed. It has been considered the principles of professional training of future PE teachers. The modern challenges in the professional training of future PE teachers at the higher education institutions are analyzed; the main directions of introduction of pedagogical technologies in the process of vocational training are specified. The article emphasizes the need for systematic introduction of innovative and information technologies, content updating, use of new forms, tools, methods and principles of education in the educational process of the higher educational institutions in order to improve the quality of future PE teachers’ professional training. It is established that the system of physical education at the higher schools faces the fact that it is necessary to go beyond the traditional activity of teachers at these establishments, and therefore requires a social and psychological rethinking of the system of teaching and the proposed amount of knowledge.У статті розглянуто особливості професійної підготовки майбутніх учителів фізичної культури, з’ясовано сучасні виклики, які стоять перед закладами вищої освіти у професійній підготовці майбутніх вчителів фізичної культури, проаналізовано основні напрями впровадження педагогічних технологій у процес такої підготовки. Exploiting Podcasting Technology in The Process of Organization of Self-Directed Learning on The Formation of Foreign Language Listening Competence of Students of The Humanities

The article deals with the issues of implementation of innovative educational podcasting technology in the modern educational process. The advantages (the possibility of involving the student in work with authentic material, providing informal learning, formation of  student's ideas about the diversity of dialects and variants of a foreign language, efficiency of use) and disadvantages (the lack of an automated system for verifying the accuracy of responses and counting the number of attempts to perform tasks and reviewing the interview, as well as a report on made mistakes and speed of tasks’ accomplishment during a semester) of podcasting use in organizing self-directed learning in formation of foreign language listening competence of students of the humanities. The main methods of the research were theoretical analysis, testing, questioning, observation, conversations and educational experiment. The experience of using the "Starter BBC Interviews Video" and "BBC Interviews Extra" video podcasts from the program to the Speakout (Pearson) training series for the 1st and 2nd year students, who speak the foreign language at the initial level, as well as the Pre- Intermediate and Intermediate, and the CNN Student News podcast (3rd year) in organizing self-directed learning in listening to the discipline "Foreign Language for Specific Purpose" is described. The structure and components of the researched podcasts, as well as illustrative material in the form of printed examples of transcripts are covered. It is established that the daily use of the CNN Student News podcast within self-directed learning and on foreign language classes has improved students’ listening, speaking and writing skills, and contributed to the increase of their vocabulary. The obtained results broaden our knowledge of the role and importance of modern educational technologies in the educational process. The conducted experimental research has proved the effectiveness of the implementation of podcasting technology in self-directed learning of students of the humanities for the formation of their foreign language listening competence, as well as the expansion of linguistic and sociocultural competence
