The aim of this study: а determination of cytokines informative for predicting and diagnostics of the presence of endometriosis in women with infertility. Methods: The main groups of 65 women with infertility associated with endometriosis have been researched as well as control group of 40 women with infertility of tubal genesis. The pre-defined levels of several cytokines (IL-2, INF-γ, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, TGF-β, IL-17, IL-1β, IL-12, IL-18) in serum and peritoneal fluid. Identification of immunological markers informative for predicting and diagnostics of the presence of endometriosis in women with infertility was conducted using mathematical models for informative by Kulbaka, Valdivsky sequential analysis, cluster analysis and linear separation method of convex hulls. The indices for prediction were selected according to Uilkokson-Mann-Whitney criterion and have showed probable differences (p<0.05) between the groups of patients with the presence and absence of endometriosis. Results: the cytokines of peritoneal fluid has bigger value, than the cytokines of serum for predicting and diagnostics of the presence of endometriosis. But bigger practical value has the cytokines of serum, because collecting of peritoneal fluid is more invasions. The highest informative for endometriosis prediction was demonstrated by interleukin 6 and tumor necrosis factor-α cytokines. Conclusion: IL-6 and TNF-α of serum can be used as immunological markers for predicting and diagnostics of the presence of endometriosis in women with infertility

Nonsequential Double Recombination in Intense Laser Fields

A second plateau in the harmonic spectra of laser-driven two-electron atoms is observed both in the numerical solution of a low-dimensional model helium atom and using an extended strong field approximation. It is shown that the harmonics well beyond the usual cut-off are due to the simultaneous recombination of the two electrons, which were emitted during different, previous half-cycles. The new cut-off is explained in terms of classical trajectories. Classical predictions and the time-frequency analysis of the ab initio quantum results are in excellent agreement. The mechanism corresponds to the inverse single photon double ionization process in the presence of a (low frequency) laser field.Comment: 4 pages, RevTeX, v2 with an extended strong field approximation treatment of the process; instead, v1 describes an attosecond control scheme to enhance the proces

    Lithium-induced phase transitions in lead-free Bi0. 5Na0. 5TiO3 based ceramics

Lithium-substituted 0.95[0.94(Bi0.5Na(0.5–x)Lix)TiO3–0.06BaTiO3]–0.05CaTiO3 materials include the polar rhombohedral R3c and the weakly polar tetragonal P4bm phases. On increasing lithium content, the (R3c/P4bm) phase ratio decreased, while the rhombohedral and tetragonal lattice distortions remained the same. The temperature corresponding to the shoulder in the dielectric permittivity shows no clear shift with respect to lithium substitution because of the rhombohedral distortion remaining constant. Electrical poling produced an increase of the rhombohedral phase fraction together with a rise of the rhombohedral and tetragonal distortion. This confirmed the occurrence of a phase transition from the weakly polar to the polar phase during electrical poling. Four peaks found in the current–electric field (I–E) loops are related to reversible electric field induced transitions. By studying the temperature dependence of the current peaks in the I–E loops, it was found that the minimum temperature where these electric field induced transitions take place decreases with increasing lithium substitution

Aurivillius-phase ferroelectrics can be turned into multiferroic materials by incorporating magnetic ions. The four-layer Aurivillius-type system Bi5FeTi3O15 is well-known to show a strong magnetoelectric effect; however, much controversy exists on its magnetic state and the possible multiferroicity at room temperature. In this paper, we report a detailed investigation on the interconnections between crystal chemistry and magnetic properties of Bi5FeTi3O15 ceramics chemically modified by the A-site gadolinium substitution. The structural studies showed that all Bi5–xGdxFeTi3O15 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) samples adopt the polar orthorhombic space group symmetry A21am at room temperature. The unit cell volume and the orthorhombic distortion decrease alongside the reduction of octahedral tilts by increasing the amount of Gd added. The decrease in tilting distortion of the [Ti/Fe]O6 octahedra was further evidenced by the suppression of the Raman A1[111] tilt mode at 233 cm–1. By using superconducting quantum interference and vibrating sample magnetometry, it was demonstrated that all the ceramics are paramagnetic from 5 K up to 700 K. It was thus concluded that the A-site substitution of Bi5FeTi3O15 with magnetic Gd ions brings about a slight structural relaxation of the parental orthorhombic lattice, but it is not an effective way to induce multiferroic properties in the Aurivillius compound. We suggest that the room-temperature (ferri/ferro/antiferro-) magnetism in Bi5FeTi3O15 previously reported in the literature might be due to the presence of magnetic impurities or local short-range magnetic ordering formed during material processing under different conditions

Background: The complete medical consequences of the long-term exposure of population to ionizing radiation in post-Chernobyl period are still a controversial issue. The molecular biological analysis of malignant diseases of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues in contaminated territories requires the precise diagnosis based on criteria of novel classifications. Aim: To analyze the relative gene expression of six apoptosis-related genes in different types of tumors of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues in patients living in areas of Ukraine contaminated with radionuclides in post-Chernobyl period. Material and methods: The samples of the peripheral blood and bone marrow of 189 Ukrainian leukemia patients and 16 patients with reactive lymphocytosis were analyzed morphologically and immunocytochemically for precise delineation of the main forms and cytological variants of hematological malignancies according to new WHO classification. Expression of six apoptosis-related genes was analyzed in the individual samples of 9 different groups of malignant diseases of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues and one group of patients with reactive lymphocytosis by quantitative RT-PCR. Expression of genes was assessed relative to that in control group of healthy donors. Results: Up-regulation of six analyzed apoptosis-related genes is observed in all groups of leukemia. In most groups of leukemia being analyzed, BCL-2 up-regulation level is superior to that of BAX. Prominent MYC up-regulation is observed in B-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma groups. In myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms, the striking up-regulation of Fas-1 and P38MAPK is evident. Practically all the groups of leukemia are characterized by stable high ratios of P53 up-regulation. Conclusion: In Ukrainian patients, up-regulation of six analyzed apoptosis-related genes is observed practically in all types of malignant diseases of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues under study. Microarray-based analysis of these samples would be of great importance in terms of elucidating genomic interactions in leukemias and their possible association with ionizing radiation

Quantum dissociation of a vortex-antivortex pair in a long Josephson junction

We report a theoretical analysis and experimental observation of the quantum dynamics of a single vortex-antivortex (VAV) pair confined in a long narrow annular Josephson junction. The switching of the junction from the superconducting state to the resistive state occurs via the dissociation of a pinned VAV pair. The pinning potential is controlled by external magnetic field HH and dc bias current II. We predict a specific magnetic field dependence of the oscillatory energy levels of the pinned VAV state and the crossover to a {\it macroscopic quantum tunneling} mechanism of VAV dissociation at low temperatures. Our analysis explains the experimentally observed {\it increase} of the width of the switching current distribution P(I)P(I) with HH and the crossover to the quantum regime at the temperature of about 100 mK.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
