A novel method of generating tunable underlying network topologies for social simulation
We propose a method of generating different scale-free networks, which has
several input parameters in order to adjust the structure, so that they can
serve as a basis for computer simulation of real-world phenomena. The
topological structure of these networks was studied to determine what kind of
networks can be produced and how can we give the appropriate values of
parameters to get a desired structure.Comment: Originally presented at the 2013 IEEE 4th International Conference on

Resonant Dynamical Friction in Nuclear Star Clusters: Rapid Alignment of an Intermediate-mass Black Hole with a Stellar Disk
We investigate the dynamical evolution of an intermediate-mass black hole
(IMBH) in a nuclear star cluster hosting a supermassive black hole (SMBH) and
both a spherical and a flattened disk-like distribution of stellar-mass
objects. We use a direct N-body (phiGPU) and an orbit-averaged (N-ring)
numerical integrator to simulate the orbital evolution of stars and the IMBH.
We find that the IMBH's orbit gradually aligns with the stellar disk if their
mutual initial inclination is less than 90 degree. If it is larger than 90
degree, i.e. counterrotating, the IMBH does not align. Initially, the rate of
orbital reorientation increases linearly with the ratio of the mass of the IMBH
over the SMBH mass and it is orders of magnitude faster than ordinary (i.e.
Chandrasekhar) dynamical friction, particularly for high SMBH masses. The
semimajor axes of the IMBH and the stars are approximately conserved. This
suggests that the alignment is predominantly driven by orbit-averaged
gravitational torques of the stars, a process which may be called resonant
dynamical friction. The stellar disk is warped by the IMBH, and ultimately
increases its thickness. This process may offer a test for the viability of
IMBH candidates in the Galactic Center. Resonant dynamical friction is not
limited to IMBHs; any object much more massive than disk particles may
ultimately align with the disk. This may have implications for the formation
and evolution of black hole disks in dense stellar systems and gravitational
wave source populations for LIGO, VIRGO, KAGRA, and LISA.Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures, 1 video, accepted by Ap
A non-invasív eljárások közül egyre nagyobb teret nyer a Zebris ultrahang-alapú gerincvizsgálat, amely alkalmas statikus helyzetben a processus spinosusok térbeli helyzetének meghatározására. A kutatás célja Zebris ultrahang-alapú mozgásvizsgáló rendszerrel mért adatokból számított sagittalis és frontalis síkú gerincgörbületi szögek megismétlési pontosságának meghatározása általános iskolás korú, scoliosisban szenvedő gyermekek esetén.A vizsgálatba 23 scoliosissal kezelt lány került bevonásra. A mérés során 19 (C7 és S1 közötti) processus spinosus térbeli helyzetét természetes álló egyenes testhelyzetben Zebris CMS-HS ultrahang-alapú mozgásvizsgáló rendszerrel (Zebris Medizintechnik GmbH, Isny, Németország) rögzítettük. A legrosszabb megismétlési pontosságot a lumbalis lordosis értékének meghatározásánál találtuk.A kiváló megismétlési pontosság (ICC≥0,793, SEM≤3,869°) alapján megállapítható, hogy a módszer alkalmas scoliosisban szenvedő gyermekek utánkövetésére is. A non-invasív Zebris ultrahang-alapú gerincvizsgáló rendszer használatával radiológiai vizsgálatok száma is csökkenthető a scoliosis utánkövetése esetén
Spin excitations of magnetoelectric LiNiPO in multiple magnetic phases
Spin excitations of magnetoelectric LiNiPO are studied by infrared
absorption spectroscopy in the THz spectral range as a function of magnetic
field through various commensurate and incommensurate magnetically ordered
phases up to 33\,T. Six spin resonances and a strong two-magnon continuum are
observed in zero magnetic field. Our systematic polarization study reveals that
some of the excitations are usual magnetic-dipole active magnon modes, while
others are either electromagnons, electric-dipole active, or magnetoelectric,
both electric- and magnetic-dipole active spin excitations. Field-induced
shifts of the modes for all three orientations of the field along the
orthorhombic axes allow us to refine the values of the relevant exchange
couplings, single-ion anisotropies, and the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction
on the level of a four-sublattice mean-field spin model. This model also
reproduces the spectral shape of the two-magnon absorption continuum, found to
be electric-dipole active in the experiment
Cellular automata for the spreading of technologies in socio-economic systems
We introduce an agent-based model for the spreading of technological
developments in socio-economic systems where the technology is mainly used for
the collaboration/interaction of agents. Agents use products of different
technologies to collaborate with each other which induce costs proportional to
the difference of technological levels. Additional costs arise when
technologies of different providers are used. Agents can adopt technologies and
providers of their interacting partners in order to reduce their costs leading
to microscopic rearrangements of the system. Analytical calculations and
computer simulations revealed that starting from a random configuration of
different technological levels a complex time evolution emerges where the
spreading of advanced technologies and the overall technological progress of
the system are determined by the amount of advantages more advanced
technologies provide, and by the structure of the social environment of agents.
We show that agents tend to form clusters of identical technological level with
a power law size distribution. When technological progress arises, the
spreading of technologies in the system can be described by extreme order
statistics.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figure
Three level benchmarking of Singularity containers for scientific calculations
In this work we present our results from benchmarking Singularity containers running scientific calculations intended for HPC at three levels of complexity, comparing them against native software environments. Our investigations were run on up-to-date hardware and the latest available software as of early 2023. To get a more detailed picture, we examined three different system aspects: we ran separate benchmarks on CPU, memory, and I/O intensive operations. These aspects were tested with microbenchmarks, and at a high level – an HPC workload pipeline which intensely loaded each aspect. As a result of our investigations we show that Singularity containerization continues to provide as good, or in some cases even better performance indicators as in a native environment – with the substantial added benefits of application flexibility and portability
