Psy-expertise, therapeutic culture and the politics of the personal in development
Expertise stemming from the psy disciplines is increasingly and explicitly shaping international development policy and practice. Whilst some policy makers see the use of psy expertise as a new way to reduce poverty, increase economic efficiency, and promote wellbeing, others raise concerns that psychocentric development promotes individual over structural change, pathologises poverty, and depoliticises development. This paper specifically analyses four aspects of psy knowledge used in contemporary development policy: child development/developmental psychology, behavioural economics, positive psychology, and global mental health. This analysis illuminates the co-constitutive intellectual and colonial histories of development and psy-expertise: a connection that complicates claims that development has been psychologized; the uses and coloniality of both within a neoliberal project; and the potential for psychopolitics to inform development

The radio-far infrared correlation: Spiral and blue compact dwarf galaxies opposed
The recently established correlation between radio continuum and far infrared emission in galaxies was further investigated by comparing normal spiral and blue compact dwarf galaxies. The puzzling result is that the ratio of radio to far infrared luminosity and its dispersion is the same for both samples, although their ratios of blue to far infrared luminosity, their radio spectral indices and their dust temperatures exhibit markedly different mean values and dispersions. This suggests that the amount of energy radiated in the two regimes is enhanced in the same way although the mechanisms responsible for the two components are rather different and complex. The fact that the blue light does not increase at the same proportion shows that both the radio and the far infrared emission are connected with the recent star formation history

Tiphia vernalis Rohwer is native to China, Japan, and Korea where it is an external parasite of Popillia spp. (King 1931). It was released into the United States from China and Korea during the mid-1920s through early 30s (Fleming 1968). After it became established in the United States, releases were made from domestic sources beginning in 1931 (King et al. 1951). Tiphia vernalis was released into Ohio sporadically during 1936-1953 (King et al.1951). Tiphia vernalis has been reported parasitizing Popillia spp. (P. quadriguttata (Fabricius) in Korea; P. chinensis (Frivaldsky) and P. formosana (Arrow) in China; and P. japonica Newman in Japan) exclusively in the field (Balock 1934, Fleming 1968). It accepted Anomala (=Exomala) orientalis Waterhouse (oriental beetle) as a host in the laboratory and cocoons were obtained (King et al.1927, Balock 1934), but there are no previously published reports of T. vernalis parasitizing A. orientalis in the field
