    The Diamond STING server

Diamond STING is a new version of the STING suite of programs for a comprehensive analysis of a relationship between protein sequence, structure, function and stability. We have added a number of new functionalities by both providing more structure parameters to the STING Database and by improving/expanding the interface for enhanced data handling. The integration among the STING components has also been improved. A new key feature is the ability of the STING server to handle local files containing protein structures (either modeled or not yet deposited to the Protein Data Bank) so that they can be used by the principal STING components: (Java)Protein Dossier ((J)PD) and STING Report. The current capabilities of the new STING version and a couple of biologically relevant applications are described here. We have provided an example where Diamond STING identifies the active site amino acids and folding essential amino acids (both previously determined by experiments) by filtering out all but those residues by selecting the numerical values/ranges for a set of corresponding parameters. This is the fundamental step toward a more interesting endeavor—the prediction of such residues. Diamond STING is freely accessible at and

The limits of fiction: politics and absent scenes in Susumu Hani’s Bad Boys (Furyōshōnen, 1960). A film re-reading through its script

This text proposes an updated analysis of Susumu Hani’s Bad Boys (1960) through the director’s theoretical contribution and the re-reading of his script. This film, made within the limits of reality and fiction, was instrumental in the cinematic language of the sixties in Japan. Hani implemented herein a style that he developed during his earlier decade as a documentary maker for Iwanami Eiga studios. Hani based his filmmaking method on a philosophical pragmatism extracted from the practices of an amateur writing called seikatsu kiroku (life document) that appeared in the early 1950s. In fact, Bad Boys is a loose adaptation of Tobenai Tsubasa (Wings that Cannot Fly) an example of seikatsu kiroku consisting of a compilation of experiences written by inmates from the Kurihama reformatory. Hani responded to the demands for a new realism of the time with this film, which he made collectively with the former inmates of that reformatory. Additionally, a close analysis of the script reveals significant ‘absent scenes’ of student demonstrations, which are similar to those Oshima and Yoshida used in 1960. This fact evidences Hani’s shared concern with other filmmakers of the time about the necessities of bringing cinema closer to topical issues

X-RAY DIFFRACTION STUDIES OF HIGH-PURITY IRON: TOPOGRAPHY AND DOUBLE-CRYSTAL DIFFRACTION

    No full text
High-purity iron single crystals with low dislocation density were prepared and examined by X-ray topography and X-ray double-crystal diffraction. Transmission X-ray topographs showed isolated dislocations, dislocations lying along subgrain boundaries and magnetic domain walls. Single crystals of silicon and gadorinium gallium garnet (GGG) are also examined with a single-crystal arrangement and a moderate-and a high-angle double-crystal arrangement. For measurements of lattice parameter change above liquid nitrogen temperature, a metal cryostat for X-ray diffraction were made. Experimental results of the lattice parameter change and the thermal expansion coefficient of iron are in good agreement with those of other works.1. Introduction / 2. Preperation of Samples / 3. The Ministry of public management announced 24,310,000 persons the population of 65 years old and over. The account of old aged, 10 years later, those percentage reach even at the rate of one in every four persons. We researched daily lives and some exercises of local people and What they think about their consciousness of health. The target groups were middle and high aged and woman\u27s university students. As a result, the middle and high aged group had higher level of the knowledge degree about their own health control, and live a life of aggressive status concerning the daily exercise. However, those consciousness of woman\u27s university students group were rather lower than the middle and high aged
