Proto-type installation of a double-station system for the optical-video-detection and orbital characterisation of a meteor/fireball in South Korea
We give a detailed description of the installation and operation of a
double-station meteor detection system which formed part of a research &
education project between Korea Astronomy Space Science Institute and Daejeon
Science Highschool. A total of six light-sensitive CCD cameras were installed
with three cameras at SOAO and three cameras at BOAO observatory. A
double-station observation of a meteor event enables the determination of the
three-dimensional orbit in space. This project was initiated in response to the
Jinju fireball event in March 2014. The cameras were installed in
October/November 2014. The two stations are identical in hardware as well as
software. Each station employes sensitive Watec-902H2 cameras in combination
with relatively fast f/1.2 lenses. Various fields of views were used for
measuring differences in detection rates of meteor events. We employed the
SonotaCo UFO software suite for meteor detection and their subsequent analysis.
The system setup as well as installation/operation experience is described and
first results are presented. We also give a brief overview of historic as well
as recent meteor (fall) detections in South Korea. For more information please

Achalasia Combined with Esophageal Cancer Treated by Concurrent Chemoradiation Therapy
Achalasia is a rare neurological deficit of the esophagus that produces an impaired relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter and decreased motility of the esophageal body. Achalasia is generally accepted to be a pre-malignant disorder, since, particularly in the mega-esophagus, chronic irritation by foods and bacterial overgrowth may contribute to the development of dysplasia and carcinoma. We present a case of a 51-year-old man with achalasia combined with esophageal cancer who has had dysphagia symptoms for more than 20 years. Since there was a clinically high possibility of supraclavicular lymph node metastasis, concurrent chemoradiation therapy was scheduled. After the third cycle of chemoradiation therapy, transthoracic esophageolymphadenectomy was performed. Histopathological examination of the main esophagus specimen revealed no residual carcinoma. And the entire regional lymph node areas were free of carcinoma except for one azygos metastatic lymph node. In summary, achalasia is a predisposing factor for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Although surveillance endoscopy in achalasia patients is still controversial, periodic screening for cancer development in long-standing achalasia patients might be advisable
MRI Findings of Rectal Submucosal Tumors
Rectal submucosal lesions encompass a wide variety of benign and malignant tumors involving the rectum. With optical colonoscopy, any mass-like protrusion covered by normal mucosa, whether the underlying process is intramural or extramural in origin, may be reported as a submucosal lesion. Whereas the assessment of submucosal lesions may be limited with performing optical colonoscopy, cross-sectional imaging such as CT, transrectal ultrasonography and MRI allows the evaluation of perirectal tissues and pelvic organs in addition to the entire thickness of the rectum, and so this is advantageous for the assessment of rectal submucosal tumors. Among these, MRI is the best investigative modality for soft tissue characterization. Therefore, knowledge of the MRI features of rectal submucosal tumors can help achieve accurate preoperative diagnoses and facilitate the appropriate management
Bladder Reconstruction Using Bovine Pericardium in a Case of Enterovesical Fistula
The use of graft materials in bladder mucosa has been examined in animal models, but debate exists over which materials are effective. Intestine has been used as a substitute in augmentation cystoplasty for patients with neuropathic bladder, but serious adverse effects of the operation have occurred in some instances. We report a case of a successful repair of an enterovesical fistula by use of bovine pericardium. The patient has remained well for 2.5 years. We suggest that bovine pericardium may be a suitable option as a bladder substitute
Acne keloidalis nuchae in Asian: A single institutional experience.
Acne keloidalis nuchae, a type of folliculitis involving the back of the neck, is common in black men, although rare cases have been reported in patients of other ethnicities. We analyzed the clinicopathological features of acne keloidalis nuchae in 17 Asians. Patients' age at the time of presentation ranged from 20 to 69 years. Most patients experienced the disease over 2 years (range, 3 months-20 years); follow-up data were available for 11 (65%) patients (range, 2-95 months). Nine (53%) patients had comorbidities, but none had a history of other skin disease or a family history of acne keloidalis nuchae. Macroscopically, seven (41%) patients had multiple erythematous pustulopapular lesions, and 10 (59%) had a single large plaque. Histopathologically, deep scarring folliculitis containing naked hair shafts was identified. In all cases, inflammation was most severe in the upper two-thirds of the dermis, and the differences in pustulopapular and plaque lesions were more prominent in the peri-inflammation area. Of the seven patients with plaque lesions treated with steroids alone or steroids and cryotherapy, three experienced plaque reduction. Acne keloidalis nuchae occurring in Asian patients frequently present with typical clinicopathological features, and therefore in spite of very low incidence the diagnosis of this disease entity should be considered in idiopathic scarring folliculitis of the posterior neck
Nevus Comedonicus Syndrome Associated with Psychiatric Disorder
Nevus comedonicus (NC) is a rare hamartoma of the pilosebaceous unit origin. The association with extracutaneous abnormalities defines NC syndrome (NCS). Fewer than 50 cases of NCS have been reported in the English literature. A 31-year-old woman presented with grouped and linear comedonal papules present from birth and located on the left buttock along Blaschko’s lines. She had a history of pediatric mood disorder combined with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) from 5 years of age and was recently diagnosed with sinus bradycardia. Her skin lesion was surgically removed and microscopic findings revealed the aggregation of dilated follicular infundibula filled with prominent laminated keratin plugs, a characteristic finding of NC. This is the first report presenting NCS associated with mood disorder and ADHD. Psychiatric symptoms may represent systemic manifestation of NCS
Differential Effects of sEH Inhibitors on the Proliferation and Migration of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
Epoxyeicosatrienoic acid (EET) is a cardioprotective metabolite of arachidonic acid. It is known that soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) is involved in the metabolic degradation of EET. The abnormal proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) play important roles in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and restenosis. Thus, the present study investigated the effects of the sEH inhibitor 12-(((tricyclo(3.3.1.13,7)dec-1-ylamino)carbonyl)amino)-dodecanoic acid (AUDA) on platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-induced proliferation and migration in rat VSMCs. AUDA significantly inhibited PDGF-induced rat VSMC proliferation, which coincided with Pin1 suppression and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) upregulation. However, exogenous 8,9-EET, 11,12-EET, and 14,15-EET treatments did not alter Pin1 or HO-1 levels and had little effect on the proliferation of rat VSMCs. On the other hand, AUDA enhanced the PDGF-stimulated cell migration of rat VSMCs. Furthermore, AUDA-induced activation of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and subsequent thromboxane A2 (TXA2) production were required for the enhanced migration. Additionally, EETs increased COX-2 expression but inhibited the migration of rat VSMCs. In conclusion, the present study showed that AUDA exerted differential effects on the proliferation and migration of PDGF-stimulated rat VSMCs and that these results may not depend on EET stabilization
