The Debate Over Euthanasia and Human Rights

    Get PDF
The present article analyzes the debate on issue of euthanasia (voluntary assisted suicide) and the relevance of international human rights norms to that debate. Euthanasia is one of the most complex issues facing human rights, especially given its ethical, legal, medical and religious dimensions. These include: modern medical technology and the availability of medical measures to prolong life; In historical terms inherit challenging laws by refusing euthanasia; The phenomenon of growing older population and the large the number of people affected by AIDS; And fall the impact of religious organizations that consider life to be sacred: terminating a life, for whatever reason, not only infringes religious beliefs but may transgress divine activities beyond the reach of human beings. Justice system is an essential player in the debate. Although euthanasia is generally unlawful, there is an increasing movement towards legalization, particularly in western jurisdictions. Serious political and legal actions taken by euthanasia advocates and their lawyers have brought assisted suicide to the brink of legal assistance. In fact, legislation allowing voluntary euthanasia has been passed in a small number of jurisdictions, and domestic courts in other countries are being repeatedly asked to consider whether the interests at stake with regard to the right to die should be recognized. Die due to euthanasia in Albania is a criminal offense which is considered a violation of the right to live and punished according to the Criminal Code. But in the Code of Ethics and Deontology of the Order of Physicians, there is a provision, which allows the application of a form of interference, which can be interpreted in as passive euthanasia. And this decision remains entirely to the discretion of the physician

We study the thermalization of individual spins of a short XYZ Heisenberg chain with strongly coupled thermal leads by checking the consistency of two-time correlations with the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. To compute these correlations we develop and apply a general numerical method for chains of quantum systems, where each system may couple strongly to a structured environment. The method combines the process tensor formalism for general (possibly non-Markovian) open quantum systems with time evolving block decimation for 1D chains. It systematically reduces the numerical complexity originating from system-environment correlations before integrating them into the full many-body problem, making a wide range of applications numerically feasible. Our results show the complete thermalization of the chain when coupled to a single bath, and reveal distinct effective temperatures in low, mid, and high frequency regimes when placed between a hot and a cold bath

To do this, we extend methods of evaluating two-time correlations in infinite lattices to open quantum systems; this allows access to momentum-resolved fluorescence spectrum. We illustrate this for a driven-dissipative transverse-field anisotropic XY model. By studying the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, we find the emergence of a quasithermalized steady state with a temperature dependent on system parameters; for blue-detuned driving, we show this effective temperature is negative. In the low excitation density limit, we compare these numerical results to analytical spin-wave theory, providing an understanding of the form of the distribution function and the origin of quasithermalization.PostprintPeer reviewe

Polytrauma is a condition when a patient has sustained multiple injuries, which can lead to disability or death. While the agriculture industry is growing, the number of polytrauma patients in children is increasing as well. It is high-energy traumas when it is important to immediately assess injuries and life-threatening conditions and to start trauma protocols guided treatment. In this article, we present a case of a 17-year-old boy who suffered extensive injuries caused by a straw pellets machine. We discussed the importance of prehospital care, multidisciplinary team involvement, and treatment methods.Politrauma – būklė, kai pacientas patiria daugybinių sužalojimų, kurie gali baigtis neįgalumu ar net mirtimi. Plečiantis žemdirbystės pramonei, daugėja vaikų politrauminių sužalojimų. Tai didelės energijos traumos, kai būtina nedelsiant tinkamai įvertinti sužalojimų keliamą riziką gyvybei ir pradėti gydymą, vadovaujantis traumų diagnostikos ir gydymo protokolais. Straipsnyje pristatomas klinikinis atvejis – 17 m. vaikinas patyrė daugybinių sužalojimų, įkritęs į šiaudų granuliatorių. Aptariama gydymo prieš atvežant pacientą į ligoninę svarba ir daugiadalykės komandos įsitraukimas į gydymo procesą

Such highly structured environments give rise to long-lived bath correlations that induce complex dynamics which are very difficult to simulate. These difficulties are further aggravated when spatial correlations between different parts of the system are important. By modeling the dynamics of a pair of two-level quantum systems in a common, structured, environment we show that a recently developed general purpose numerical approach, the time-evolving matrix product operator, is capable of accurate simulation under exactly these conditions. We find that tuning the separation to match the wavelength of the dominant environmental modes can drastically modify the system dynamics. To further explore this behavior, we show that the full dynamics of the bath can be calculated directly from those of the system, thus allowing us to develop intuition for the complex dynamics observed.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

To date, most understanding of open quantum systems is restricted either to weak system-bath couplings or to special cases where specific numerical techniques become effective. Here we present a general and yet exact numerical approach that efficiently describes the time evolution of a quantum system coupled to a non-Markovian harmonic environment. Our method relies on expressing the system state and its propagator as a matrix product state and operator, respectively, and using a singular value decomposition to compress the description of the state as time evolves. We demonstrate the power and flexibility of our approach by numerically identifying the localisation transition of the Ohmic spin-boson model, and considering a model with widely separated environmental timescales arising for a pair of spins embedded in a common environment.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe
