The quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects: from weak to strong system-environment coupling

By repeatedly measuring a quantum system, the evolution of the system can be slowed down (the quantum Zeno effect) or sped up (quantum anti-Zeno effect). We study these effects for a single two-level system coupled to a collection of harmonic oscillators. Previously, such systems have been studied in both the weak and the strong system-environment coupling regimes. In this paper, we apply a polaron transformation in a manner that allows us to study the quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects for a large variety of system-environment parameters. Using this approach, we reproduce previous results for the weak and strong system-environment coupling regimes. Moreover, as long as the environment is super-Ohmic, we show how our approach can be used to explore regimes such as the moderate system-environment coupling regime that could not be investigated before in a straightforward manner.Comment: 9 pages, comments most welcom

The railway transport node in Kutoarjo, serving the southern route of Java, is an excellent opportunity for Kutoarjo's economic growth. Kutoarjo, located in the administrative area of Purworejo Regency in RTRW of Central Java Province belongs to Purwomanggung regional system covering Purworejo Regency, Wonosobo Regency, Magelang Regency, Magelang City, and Temanggung Regency. An international airport is also being built in Kulonprogo Regency, Special Region of Jogjakarta Province, which will be integrated with the existing stations in Purworejo Regency, explicitly located in Kutoarjo sub-district, Kutoarjo Station. The construction of NYIA (New Yogyakarta International Airport) in Kulon Progo is an excellent opportunity for the rise and trigger for Kutoarjo. However, the current condition of the existing Kutoharjo station is not optimal and does not significantly give added value to the economy either in Kutoarjo or Purworejo. Kutoharjo Station is only a temporary transit point, and there is no other object which can make visitors want to stop longer in Kutoharjo. This study aims to formulate a management development of Kutoarjo as a transit city that can contribute to mobilizing the economy in Purworejo Regency and its surrounding areas. The analysis is conducted by considering movement patterns, development of transit areas, supporting sectors and policies. Based on the analysis results, it can be seen that the development of transit area using seamless tourism concept requires ± 1.4 ha of land around Kutoarjo station, which is still included in 200 meters (walkable) radius. Result of study reveals that the development of node transit is supported by a potential tourism sector. The implication of this transit area development is the absorption of labor force in 2038 as many as 12,213 people. Besides, there is an economic increase of PAD (LGR) of 55.7% which eventually leads the LGR (PAD) reach IDR. 2.328.129.852.138 in 2039

High operating temperature i nfrared photo detectors with multi -color function that are capable of monolithic integration are of increasing importance in developing the next generation of mid -IR imag e sensors. Applications of these sensors include defense, medical diagnosis, environmental and astronomical observations. We have investigated a novel InAsSb -based nBnBn heterostructure that combines a state -of-art InAsSb nBn detector with an InAsSb/GaSb heterojuncti on detector . At room temperature, r educti on in the dark current density of more than an order of magnitude was achieved compared to previously investigated InAsSb/GaSb heterojunction dete ctors . Electrical characterization from cryogenic temperatures to roo m temperature confirmed that the nBnBn device was diffusion limited for temperature s above 150K. O ptical measurements demonstrated that the nBnBn detector was sensitive in both the SWIR and MWIR wavelength range at room temperature . The specific detectivity (D*) of the competed nBnBn devices was calculated to be 8.6 × 10 8 cm · Hz 1/2 W -1 at 300K and approximately 1.0 × 10 10 cm · Hz 1/2 W -1 when cooled down to 200K (with 0.3V reverse bias and 1550nm illumination ). In addition, all photodetector layers were grown monolithically on GaAs active layers u sing the interfacial misfit array growth mode . Our results therefore pave the way for the development of new active pixel designs for monolithically integrated mid -IR imaging arrays

This case report offers the clinician a review of important clinical and diagnostic findings that can help direct the need for orbital exenteration. Conclusion: Maxillary mucormycotic osteomyelitis is an aggressive infection that needs to be addressed promptly to prevent fatal consequences

Analyzing the Resilience of Convolutional Neural Networks Implemented on GPUs: Alexnet as a Case Study

    Get PDF
There have been an extensive use of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in healthcare applications. Presently, GPUs are the most prominent and dominated DNN accelerators to increase the execution speed of CNN algorithms to improve their performance as well as the Latency. However, GPUs are prone to soft errors. These errors can impact the behaviors of the GPU dramatically. Thus, the generated fault may corrupt data values or logic operations and cause errors, such as Silent Data Corruption. unfortunately, soft errors propagate from the physical level (microarchitecture) to the application level (CNN model). This paper analyzes the reliability of the AlexNet model based on two metrics: (1) critical kernel vulnerability (CKV) used to identify the malfunction and light- malfunction errors in each kernel, and (2) critical layer vulnerability (CLV) used to track the malfunction and light-malfunction errors through layers. To achieve this, we injected the AlexNet which was popularly used in healthcare applications on NVIDIA’s GPU, using the SASSIFI fault injector as the major evaluator tool. The experiments demonstrate through the average error percentage that caused malfunction of the models has been reduced from 3.7% to 0.383% by hardening only the vulnerable part with the overhead only 0.2923%. This is a high improvement in the model reliability for healthcare applications

    Get PDF
In this paper, the modern biomass-based transportation fuels such as fuels from Pyrolysis process, bio-ethanol, bio-methanol, and bio-diesel are briefly reviewed. Here, the term bio-fuel and non-organic fuel is referred to as liquid or gaseous fuels for the transport sector that are predominantly produced from biomass. There are several reasons for bio-fuels and non-organic fuel to be considered as relevant technologies by both developing and industrialized countries. They include energy security reasons, environmental concerns, foreign exchange savings, and socioeconomic issues related to the rural sector. The term modern biomass is generally used to describe the traditional biomass use through the efficient and clean combustion technologies and sustained supply of biomass resources, environmentally sound and competitive fuels, heat and electricity using modern conversion technologies. Modern bio-mass can be used for the generation of electricity and heat. Bio-ethanol, bio-methanol and bio-diesel as well as diesel produced from biomass by Pyrolysis process are the most modern biomass-based transportation fuels. Bio-ethanol is a petrol additive/substitute

This study was conducted in North Kordofan state, Western Sudan, during the period Feb 2016- March 2020 to study the Phenotypic Characterization of crossed goats (F1-Desert goat and Damascus).44 female Desert goats of average age of 3-4 years and average body weights33.18±0.84 kg, were purchased from the local markets. Two mature sexual Damascus bucks were used in the experiment in addition to two castrated local young ones (teasers) all animals were identified using ear tags, tested for brucellosis and treated against external and internal parasites. During gestation period goats were closely observed up to the time of kidding. Data concerning with crossed kids (phenotypic characers, body measurements, performance up to maturity) were recorded. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences, software package (SPSS, V23, 2017)). The results indicated that Male kids were significantly (P<0.01) heavier than females (2.74±0.48 visas 2.04±0.14kg). 27% mortality rate was recorded in kids. 71% of crossed goats (first generation) had light blue eye color. The flock had different coat colors (light brown, reddish brown and dark brown). The udder was somewhat small and attached to the abdomen the average body weight at kidding was 26.28 ± 1.56 and 22.03± 1.27 kg for single and twins, respectively

A Novel MicroPhotonic Structure for Optical Header Recognition

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a new MicroPhotonic structure for optical packet header recognition based on the integration of an optical cavity, optical components and a photoreceiver array. The structure is inherently immune to optical interference thereby routing an optical header within optical cavities to different photo receiver elements to generate the autocorrelation function, and hence the recognition of the header using simple microelectronic circuits. The proof-of-concept of the proposed MicroPhotonic optical header recognition structure is analysed and experimentally demonstrated, and results show excellent agreement between measurements and theory
