Challenging US Country of Origin Labelling at the World Trade Organization: The Law, The Issues and The Evidence
Canada and Mexico are formally challenging US country of origin (COOL) legislation at the World Trade Organization. The industries most affected by COOL are beef and pork. The effect of COOL on North American cross border supply chains is outlined. The areas of international trade law upon which a challenge could be mounted are explained and the key issues that a disputes panel would have to determine indicated. Employment growth is strongly predicted by smaller average establishment size, both across cities and across industries within cities, but there is little consensus on why this relationship exists. Traditional economic explanations emphasize factors that reduce entry costs or raise entrepreneurial returns, thereby increasing net returns and attracting entrepreneurs. A second class of theories hypothesizes that some places are endowed with a greater supply of entrepreneurship. Evidence on sales per worker does not support the higher returns for entrepreneurship rationale. Light-curve modelling constraints on the obliquities and aspect angles of the young Fermi pulsars
In more than four years of observation the Large Area Telescope on board the
Fermi satellite has identified pulsed -ray emission from more than 80
young pulsars, providing light curves with high statistics. Fitting the
observations with geometrical models can provide estimates of the magnetic
obliquity and aspect angle , yielding estimates of the
radiation beaming factor and luminosity. Using -ray emission geometries
(Polar Cap, Slot Gap, Outer Gap, One Pole Caustic) and radio emission geometry,
we fit -ray light curves for 76 young pulsars and we jointly fit their
-ray plus radio light curves when possible. We find that a joint radio
plus -ray fit strategy is important to obtain (, )
estimates that can explain simultaneous radio and -ray emission. The
intermediate-to-high altitude magnetosphere models, Slot Gap, Outer Gap, and
One pole Caustic, are favoured in explaining the observations. We find no
evolution of on a time scale of a million years. For all emission
geometries our derived -ray beaming factors are generally less than one
and do not significantly evolve with the spin-down power. A more pronounced
beaming factor vs. spin-down power correlation is observed for Slot Gap model
and radio-quiet pulsars and for the Outer Gap model and radio-loud pulsars. For
all models, the correlation between -ray luminosity and spin-down power
is consistent with a square root dependence. The -ray luminosities
obtained by using our beaming factors not exceed the spin-down power. This
suggests that assuming a beaming factor of one for all objects, as done in
other studies, likely overestimates the real values. The data show a relation
between the pulsar spectral characteristics and the width of the accelerator
gap that is consistent with the theoretical prediction for the Slot Gap model.Comment: 90 pages, 80 figures (63 in Appendices), accepted for publication in

Clinical and service implications of a cognitive analytic therapy model of psychosis
Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) is an integrative, interpersonal model of therapy predicated on a radically social concept of self, developed over recent years in the UK by Anthony Ryle. A CAT-based model of psychotic disorder has been developed much more recently based on encouraging early experience in this area. The model describes and accounts for many psychotic experiences and symptoms in terms of distorted, amplified or muddled enactments of normal or ‘neurotic’ reciprocal role procedures (RRPs) and of damage at a meta-procedural level to the structures of the self.
Reciprocal role procedures are understood in CAT to represent the outcome of the process of internalization of early, sign-mediated, interpersonal experience and to constitute the basis for all mental activity, normal or otherwise. Enactments of maladaptive RRPs generated by early interpersonal stress are seen in this model to constitute a form of ‘internal expressed emotion’. Joint description of these RRPs and their enactments (both internally and externally) and their subsequent revision is central to the practice of CAT during which they are mapped out through written and diagrammatic reformulations.
This model may usefully complement and extend existing approaches, notably recent CBT-based interventions, particularly with ‘difficult’ patients, and generate meaningful and helpful understandings of these disorders for both patients and their treating teams. We suggest that use of a coherent and robust model such as CAT could have important clinical and service implications in terms of developing and researching models of these disorders as well as for the training of multidisciplinary teams in their effective treatment
Photon rockets and gravitational radiation
The absence of gravitational radiation in Kinnersley's ``photon rocket''
solution of Einstein's equations is clarified by studying the mathematically
well-defined problem of point-like photon rockets in Minkowski space (i.e.
massive particles emitting null fluid anisotro\-pically and accelerating
because of the recoil). We explicitly compute the (uniquely defined) {\it
linearized} retarded gravitational waves emitted by such objects, which are the
coherent superposition of the gravitational waves generated by the motion of
the massive point-like rocket and of those generated by the energy-momentum
distribution of the photon fluid. In the special case (corresponding to
Kinnersley's solution) where the anisotropy of the photon emission is purely
dipolar we find that the gravitational wave amplitude generated by the
energy-momentum of the photons exactly cancels the usual gravitational
wave amplitude generated by the accelerated motion of the rocket. More general
photon anisotropies would, however, generate genuine gravitational radiation at
infinity. Our explicit calculations show the compatibility between the
non-radiative character of Kinnersley's solution and the currently used
gravitational wave generation formalisms based on post-Minkowskian perturbation

Parties of reputation systems rate each other and use ratings to compute reputation scores that drive their interactions. When deciding which reputation model to deploy in a network environment, it is important to find the
most suitable model and to determine its right initial configuration. This calls for an engineering approach for describing, implementing and evaluating reputation
systems while taking into account specific aspects of both the reputation systems and the networked environment where they will run. We present a software tool (NEVER) for network-aware evaluation of reputation systems and their rapid prototyping through experiments performed according to user-specified parameters.
