    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to reveal the empirical causal relationship between the variables that affect the profit rates distributed to deposits at participation banks. In this study, monthly data for the period 2002:M01-2022:M02 were used in order to reveal the variables affecting the profit share rates distributed to deposits by participation banks. In order to analyze the relationship between the variables, the Johansen cointegration test, impulse-response analysis were used within the framework of the VAR model, and the effect ratios of the variables were revealed with the var decomposition table. In addition, the causality relationship was discussed with the Toda-Yamamoto causality test. In the study, a model has been developed that reveals the variables that affect the change in the profit share rate of participation banks distributed to time deposits. In the analyzes made, it has been revealed that the interest rates of conventional banks are effective on the profit share rates of participation banks in accordance with the literature in the case of Turkiye. VAR Decomposition results; It shows that approximately 38.05% of the change in the profit share ratio of participation banks distributed to time deposits in the 10th period is explained by the interest rate given to 1-year maturity deposits of conventional banks operating in Turkiye

Dissertation presented as partial requirement for obtaining the Master’s degree in Information Management, with a specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceData representation is one of the fundamental concepts in machine learning. An appropriate representation is found by discovering a structure and automatic detection of patterns in data. In many domains, representation or feature learning is a critical step in improving the performance of machine learning algorithms due to the multidimensionality of data that feeds the model. Some tasks may have different perspectives and approaches depending on how data is represented. In recent years, deep artificial neural networks have provided better solutions to several pattern recognition problems and classification tasks. Deep architectures have also shown their effectiveness in capturing latent features for data representation. In this document, autoencoders will be examined to obtain the representation of Parkinson's disease patients and compared with conventional representation learning algorithms. The results will show whether the proposed method of feature selection leads to the desired accuracy for predicting the severity of Parkinson’s disease

Special Focus on Age Discrimination in Forced Migration Law, Policy, and Practice

    Get PDF
This special focus of Refuge highlights the widespread but under-researched occurrence of age discrimination in forced migration law, policy, and practice. Using a conceptual lens of social age, authors analyze the ways in which people in situations of forced migration are treated differently on the basis of chronological age, biological development, and family status. By framing this differential treatment as discrimination, this special focus approaches age as an equity issue. Such an approach differentiates the articles presented here from other recent scholarship on specific age groups, which is framed largely in terms of their vulnerabilities and needs. This special focus is intended to stimulate further research and activism on age discrimination in all its forms in varying contexts of forced migration.

Ethical Considerations: Research with People in Situations of Forced Migration

Research can contribute to better understanding of the forced migration experience to inform policy and programming, but it can also cause inconvenience and harm to research respondents.[1] In situations of forced migration, the stakes are particularly high because of precarious legal status, unequal power relations, far-reaching anti-terrorism legislation, and the criminalization of migration. In response, the Canadian Council for Refugees, York University’s Centre for Refugee Studies, and the Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies collaborated to complement established ethical principles with specific ethical considerations for research with people in situations of forced migration. This document highlights our guiding principles and applies the ethical concepts of voluntary, informed consent; respect for privacy; and cost-benefit analysis. It is of relevance to anyone involved in gathering information—whether in an academic or community setting—and those who are asked to take part in research.[1] Recognizing power relations inherent in facilitating true participation, this document uses the term respondent to indicate those individuals who are providing information as part of the research. In some ethics documents, the term human subject is used

Based on ethnographic research with over four hundred Congolese refugees in Kampala and Kyaka II refugee settlement, Uganda, this article interrogates the politics of education—both historically in the Democratic Republic of Congo and currently in migration contexts in Uganda. Formal education was an aspiration for all young people in the study, irrespective of current educational level. Moreover, it is a priority for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and many other organizations working with refugees. Drawing on the experiences and views of Congolese young people, this article analyzes the socio-political importance they accord to formal schooling. It then analyzes the degree to which these political aspects of education are manifested in daily decision-making processes in families, households, communities, and high-level politics. The author concludes with some reflections on how researchers and practitioners working in migration contexts can recognize and take into account the politicized nature of education.

This study aims to scrutinize and conduct a conceptual evaluation of the relationship between knowledge leadership and knowledge management; it was designed as a theoretical literature review and investigates the hypothesis that knowledge leaders undertake important roles in knowledge management processes. Knowledge-based organizational structures require leaders who manage and ensure the effectiveness of knowledge. Knowledge leaders encourage employees to participate in knowledge management processes, contribute to adopting knowledge management as part of organizational culture, and lead knowledge management activities by choosing proper infrastructure and technology. Schools are knowledge-intensive organizations which possess a large number of information areas that must be managed. The main actors who will manage these areas of knowledge are school principals. Therefore, selecting school principals is a process which requires more attention and diligence. In the process of selecting a school principal, whether it be in a written or verbal interview, teachers who possess broad knowledge of their fields and current legislation, who are eager to better themselves and continue reading extensively, and who are qualified in the fields of management science, psychology, and sociology must be considered as candidates.

The study selected a technical solution to improve the mixing of polymeric materials in the extruder with the modernization of the worm based on the execution of a detachable mixing and dispersing section. It is formed by a pair of elements, each in the form of a cylinder with coots evenly made along the side surface inclined towards one of its bases, converging to nothing. This design of the extruder worm eliminates the formation of stagnant zones, but also due to the alternation in the circular direction of each element of the specified section of the annular sections and sections in the form of circular segments, it provides a high mixing and dispersing effect of the machine as a whole
