岡山県立大学2016年入学生の英語学習に対する認識

This study looks at changing perceptions of English-language education and e-learning among first-year students at Okayama Prefectural University (OPU) after completing a full year of English classes. We conducted a questionnaire-based survey at the beginning and end of the 2016 academic year, and the results show that although students had similar beliefs about learning English, their desire to learn English had decreased by the end of the year. Furthermore, while only slightly less than half of students felt that the materials were effective, more than half did not like using them.本稿は、岡山県立大学2016年度に入学した学生を対象として、大学入学当初と2016年度末に学習者ビリーフ（学習に対する態度・不安・願望）を調査した報告である。主な結果として、多くの学習者が、１年次における英語学習を終えた後、英語学習に対する意欲を低下させていることが明らかになった。また、e-learning学習は効果的であると認めながらも、好きではないと回答した学生が多かった。教師は、学生の英語学習に対するニーズが何であるのかを常に意識していかなければいけないことが示唆された

Report on 2016 Okayama Prefectural University Students\u27 Beliefs in Learning English

本稿は、岡山県立大学1 年生を対象として、大学入学当初の5 月に学習者ビリーフを実施した報告である。平成27 年度から新しい英語プログラムであるEnglish Language Program (ELP) が始まった。この報告は、ELP を始めるにあたって、岡山県立大学に入学した1 年生が、英語学習に対して、どのような学習者ビリーフを持っているのかを量的に調査したものである。主な結果として、大半の学生が、統合的および道具的動機を持っていた。また、入学当初には、スピーキングに対して、不安を抱えていたことも明らかにされた

O pequeno semelhante em questão: o que bebês e crianças pequenas podem fazer pelos seus pares semelhantes na constituição psíquica e no desenvolvimento.

Investigam-se as interações entre bebês e crianças pequenas apontando as possibilidades de participação na constituição psíquica e no desenvolvimento. Esses sujeitos foram denominados “pequenos semelhantes” e definidos em termos constitucionais. Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica da teoria psicanalítica embasada em três principais autores: Freud, Lacan e Winnicott. Esta revisão foi confrontada com dados de observação da psicologia do desenvolvimento. Conclui-se que os pequenos semelhantes interagem e formam organizações pré-grupais e grupais marcadas pela identificação, agressividade e cooperação, além de ter participação única e diferencial na constituição psíquica e no desenvolvimento, melhor definida como a gênese dos sentimentos sociais. This paper investigates the interactions between babies and young children indicating the possibilities of a participation in psychic constitution and development. These subjects were named “similar toddlers” and defined in constitutional terms. A literature review of psychoanalytic theory was performed, based on three main authors: Freud, Lacan, and Winnicott. This review was confronted with observation data of developmental psychology. We conclude that similar toddlers interact and form pre-group and group organizations marked by identification, aggression, and cooperation, as well as having a unique and differential participation in the psychic constitution and development, better defined as the genesis of social feelings. Se investigan las interacciones entre los bebés y los niños que precisan las posibilidades de una participación en la constitución y el desarrollo psíquicos. Estos chicos fueron nombrados pequeño semejante y definidos desde términos constitucionales. Se hizo una revisión de la literatura sobre la teoría psicoanalítica en tres autores principales: Freud, Lacan y Winnicott. Esta opinión fue confrontada con la observación de los datos de la psicología del desarrollo. Concluimos que los pequeños semejantes forman organizaciones pregrupales y grupales marcados por la identificación, la agresión y la cooperación, así como tiene una participación singular y diferenciada en la constitución y el desarrollo psíquico que mejor define como la génesis de los sentimientos sociales.

Geochemical Characterization of Groundwater in a Volcanic System

A geochemical investigation was undertaken at Mt. Etna Volcano to better define groundwater characteristics of its aquifers. Results indicate that the Na?Mg ± Ca-HCO3− ± (SO42− or Cl−) type accounts for more than 80% of the groundwater composition in the volcano. The remaining 20% is characterized by elevated Ca2+. Waters along coastal areas are enriched in SO42− or Cl−, mainly due to mixing with seawater and anthropogenic effects. The majority of the samples showed values between −4% to −9% for δ18O and −19? to −53% for δ2H, suggesting that precipitation is the predominant source of recharge to the aquifers, especially in the west of the study area. The analysis of δ13C and pCO2 shows values 1 to 3 times higher than those expected for waters in equilibrium with the atmosphere, suggesting a partial gas contribution from deep sources. The diffusion of gasses is likely to be controlled by tectonic structures in the volcano. The ascent of deep brines is also reflected in the CO2 enrichment (up to 2.2 bars) and enriched δ2H/δ18O compositions observed in the salt mounts of Paternò.Fil: Bellia, Carmelo . AUTOLOGOUS NEUROSENSORY RETINAL TRANSPLANTATION: Bridging the Gap.

PURPOSE: To review the autologous retinal transplantation surgical technique, indications, rationale, and current outcomes of data published to date. METHODS: Review of surgical technique, preoperative and postoperative best-corrected visual acuity, and macular hole (MH) closure rate in studies with at least five eyes. RESULTS: The weighted average macular hole closure rate is 88%, with a MH closure rate ranging from 66.7% to 100%. The weighted average best-corrected visual acuity improved from mean logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution 1.35 (Snellen equivalent of 20/450) preoperatively to mean logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution 1.02 (Snellen equivalent of 20/210) postoperatively. From the largest autologous retinal transplantation case series, 37% of patients gained 3 or more lines of visual acuity after autologous retinal transplantation for primary or refractory MHs and 74% gained 3 or more lines of visual acuity after autologous retinal transplantation for MH-retinal detachments. Functional improvement including negative Watzke-Allen sign and conversion from positive to negative scotoma was reported in large case series. CONCLUSION: Autologous retinal transplantation is a promising technique for closure of large and refractory MHs otherwise difficult to repair with conventional techniques. This technique may allow for replacement of neural tissue in the macula through cell rehabilitation and regeneration through presumed ectopic synaptogenesis, retinal progenitor cell differentiation and integration, and/or retinal progenitor cell material transfer to host neurons

A Clustered Overflow Configuration of Inpatient Beds in Hospitals

Problem Definition: The shortage of inpatient beds is a major cause of delays and cancellations in many hospitals. It may also lead to patients being admitted to inappropriate wards, whereby resulting in a lower quality of care and a longer length of stay. Academic/Practical Relevance: Investment in additional beds is not always feasible. Instead, new and creative solutions for a more efficient use of existing resources must be sought. Methodology: We propose a new configuration of inpatient beds which we call the clustered overflow configuration. In this configuration, patients who are denied admission to their primary wards as a result of beds being fully occupied are admitted to overflow wards, with each designated to serve overflows from a certain subset of specialties and providing the same quality of care as in primary wards. We propose two different formulations for partitioning and bed allocation in the proposed configuration: one minimizing the sum of average daily costs of turning patients away and nursing teams, and another minimizing the numbers turned away subject to nursing cost falling below a given threshold. We heuristically solve instances from both formulations. Results: Applying the models to real data shows that the configurations obtained from our models compare very well with the other configurations proposed in the literature, provided that patients' willingness to wait is relatively short. Managerial Implications: The proposed configuration provides the combined advantages of the dedicated configuration, wherein patients are only admitted to their primary wards, and the exible configuration, in which all specialties share a single ward. On the other hand, it restricts the adverse impacts of pooling and minimizes cross-training costs through appropriate partitioning and bed allocation. As such, it serves as a viable alternative to existing inpatient configurations

現在の英語カリキュラムと新入生の学習者ビリーフに基づく発展的提案

In order to provide students with good teaching, the curriculum needs to be reviewed and revised periodically. Even minor changes can be of benefit. To prepare a better curriculum for students, teachers should know students’ needs and wants. In this report, the present English curriculum at Okayama Prefectural University is described. The present curriculum aims to improve students’ four skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing in addition to increasing vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Then, the results of a survey on 2018 first-year students’ beliefs regarding learning English are reported. Students’ beliefs include attitude toward English learning, motivation, anxiety, and expectation. Last, based on the results of the survey, the strengths and weaknesses of the present curriculum are discussed.平成30年度に実施された英語カリキュラムを説明し、平成30年度入学生の入学直後の学習者ビリーフ（学習への期待、意欲、不安など）を調査した。調査の結果、3つの学部から構成される岡山県立大学は、学部ごとに、学習者ビリーフが大きく異なることが明らかになった。語学教育推進室は、全学を対象とした統一英語カリキュラムを実施しているが、学部ごとに、学生のニーズに合わせた英語カリキュラムを工夫していく必要がある

Familial spastic paraplegia with epilepsy.

We report a family whose members have familial spastic paraplegia (FSP) associated with epilepsy. A man and his sister initially had primary generalized epilepsy with tonic-clonic seizures, but they have had no seizures for years. However, they developed spastic paresis of the lower extremities and presently show features of FSP. Their mother seemed to have suffered from FSP. One son of the female patient has epilepsy. The clinical picture of this family suggests a close relationship between FSP and epilepsy.</p
