Joint continuity in semitopological monoids and semilattices

In this paper we study the separately continuous actions of semitopological monoids on pseudocompact spaces. The main aim of this paper is to generalize Lawson's results to some class of pseudocompact spaces. Also, we introduce a concept of a weak qDq_D-space and prove that a pseudocompact space and a weak qDq_D-space form a Grothendieck pair. As an application of the main result, we investigate the continuity of multiplication and taking inverses in subgroups of semitopological semigroups. In particular, we get that if (S,)(S,\bullet) is a Tychonoff pseudocompact semitopological monoid with a quasicontinuous multiplication \bullet and GG is a subgroup of SS, then GG is a topological group. Also, we study the continuity of operations in semitopological semilattices.Comment: 13 page

Divergent reduplication as a phenomenon of linguistic creativity

    Get PDF
The article analyzes reduction as a linguistic phenomenon and its role in the language game. Reduction exists in the vast majority of languages of the world. Despite of the existence of scientific studies of the graphic and phonetic originality of reduplicates in various languages, the content of these lexical units has not been sufficiently investigated. From the authors’ point of view, ignoring the pragmatic-communicative potential of reduplication creates a one-sided characteristic of this linguistic phenomenon. The role and functions of these language units in creating an aesthetic effect in communication are shown by examples of divergent reduplication. The authors distinguish some functions of divergent reduplication.

Various types of completeness in topologized semilattices

A topologized semilattice X is called complete if each non-empty chain C⊂ X has inf C and sup C that belong to the closure C¯ of the chain C in X. In this paper, we introduce various concepts of completeness of topologized semilattices in the context of operators that generalize the closure operator, and study their basic properties. In addition, examples of specific topologized semilattices are given, showing that these classes do not coincide with each other. Also in this paper, we prove theorems that allow us to generalize the available results on complete semilattices endowed with a topology. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, MinobrnaukaThe work was performed as part of research conducted at the Ural Mathematical Center with the financial support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation

Structural and Mechanical Properties of DLC/TiN Coatings on Carbide for Wood-Cutting Applications

    Get PDF
In this work, the diamond-like carbon and titanium nitride (DLC/TiN) multilayer coatings were prepared on a cemented tungsten carbide substrate (WC—3 wt.% Co) using the cathodic vacuum arc physical vapor deposition (Arc-PVD) method and pulsed Arc-PVD method with a graphite cathode for the deposition of TiN and carbon layers, respectively. The structural and mechanical properties of the prepared coatings were studied, and different techniques, such as scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and microindentation techniques investigated their microstructure, composition, and phases. The prepared coatings had a multilayer structure with distinct phases of DLC, TiN, and carbide substrate. The potentiodynamic polarization method (PDP) was performed for the DLC/TiN multilayer coatings in 3% NaCl solution to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the prepared coatings. It has been shown that the DLC layer provided the coating with a polarization resistance of 564.46 kΩ. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that the DLC/TiN coatings had a high hardness of 38.7–40.4 GPa, which can help to extend the wood-cutting tools’ life

Application of multifractal wavelet analysis to spontaneous fermentation processes

An algorithm is presented here to get more detailed information, of mixed culture type, based exclusively on the biomass concentration data for fermentation processes. The analysis is performed with only the on-line measurements of the redox potential being available. It is a two-step procedure which includes an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) that relates the redox potential to the biomass concentrations in the first step. Next, a multifractal wavelet analysis is performed using the biomass estimates of the process. In this context, our results show that the redox potential is a valuable indicator of microorganism metabolic activity during the spontaneous fermentation. In this paper, the detailed design of the multifractal wavelet analysis is presented, as well as its direct experimental application at the laboratory levelComment: 12 pages, 3 figures, Physica A, to appea

Catalytic sulfation of betulin with sulfamic acid : experiment and DFT calculation

    Get PDF
Betulin is an important triterpenoid substance isolated from birch bark, which, together with its sulfates, exhibits important bioactive properties. We report on a newly developed method of betulin sulfation with sulfamic acid in pyridine in the presence of an Amberlyst(®)15 solid acid catalyst. It has been shown that this catalyst remains stable when being repeatedly (up to four cycles) used and ensures obtaining of sulfated betulin with a sulfur content of ~10%. The introduction of the sulfate group into the betulin molecule has been proven by Fourier-transform infrared, ultraviolet-visible, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectra contain absorption bands at 1249 and 835–841 cm(−1); in the UV spectra, the peak intensity decreases; and, in the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra, of betulin disulfate, carbons С3 and С28 are completely shifted to the weak-field region (to 88.21 and 67.32 ppm, respectively) with respect to betulin. Using the potentiometric titration method, the product of acidity constants K(1) and K(2) of a solution of the betulin disulfate H(+) form has been found to be 3.86 × 10(–6) ± 0.004. It has been demonstrated by the thermal analysis that betulin and the betulin disulfate sodium salt are stable at temperatures of up to 240 and 220 °C, respectively. The density functional theory method has been used to obtain data on the most stable conformations, molecular electrostatic potential, frontier molecular orbitals, and mulliken atomic charges of betulin and betulin disulfate and to calculate the spectral characteristics of initial and sulfated betulin, which agree well with the experimental data

Redescription of three caligid species of the genus Caligus Müller, 1785 (Copepoda: Caligidae), parasites of marine fish Decapterus sp. (Perciformes: Carangidae) from Tonkin gulf, Vietnam

    Get PDF
So far, parasitic copepods belonging to the family Caligidae on marine fishes in Vietnam have been poorly studied. At present, 250 copepods species belong to the genus Caligus have been registrated in the world, including 54 species recognized in waters of the South East Asia region and 11 species recorded from Vietnam. Based on the specimens of parasite copepods found on the marine fish Decapterus sp. which were collected by scientific researchers of TINRO, Vladivostok Russia from Tonkin gulf, Vietnam in 1960-1961, a re-description of three species of the genus Caligus, viz. Caligus confusus Pillai, 1961, C. constrictus Heller, 1865 and C. robustus Bassett-Smith, 1898 is given. The hosts, distribution and key to the eleven Caligus species for Vietnamese fauna are also provided herein

Resonant Absorption of Axisymmetric Modes in Twisted Magnetic Flux Tubes

    Get PDF
It has been shown recently that magnetic twist and axisymmetric MHD modes are ubiquitous in the solar atmosphere, and therefore the study of resonant absorption for these modes has become a pressing issue because it can have important consequences for heating magnetic flux tubes in the solar atmosphere and the observed damping. In this investigation, for the first time, we calculate the damping rate for axisymmetric MHD waves in weakly twisted magnetic flux tubes. Our aim is to investigate the impact of resonant damping of these modes for solar atmospheric conditions. This analytical study is based on an idealized configuration of a straight magnetic flux tube with a weak magnetic twist inside as well as outside the tube. By implementing the conservation laws derived by Sakurai et al. and the analytic solutions for weakly twisted flux tubes obtained recently by Giagkiozis et al. we derive a dispersion relation for resonantly damped axisymmetric modes in the spectrum of the Alfvén continuum. We also obtain an insightful analytical expression for the damping rate in the long wavelength limit. Furthermore, it is shown that both the longitudinal magnetic field and the density, which are allowed to vary continuously in the inhomogeneous layer, have a significant impact on the damping time. Given the conditions in the solar atmosphere, resonantly damped axisymmetric modes are highly likely to be ubiquitous and play an important role in energy dissipation. We also suggest that, given the character of these waves, it is likely that they have already been observed in the guise of Alfvén waves
