    ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN EXERCISE-INDUCED FLATTENING OF FOOT ARCH AND FATIGUE OF EXTRINSIC AND INTRINSIC FOOT MUSCLES

    We aimed to examine the associations between exercise-induced flattening of the foot arch and fatigue of extrinsic and intrinsic foot muscles. Fifteen male participants repeated 100 hops/set until they could no longer maintain the hop frequency or had completed 30 sets. The sagittal plane range of motion (ROM) of the midfoot during stance phase significantly decreased at the final set compared to the initial set (-8.8°). After the fatigue task, MRI T2 relaxation time in all measured extrinsic and intrinsic foot muscles significantly increased (17.2‒37.4%); however, only its increase in the tibialis posterior (TP) correlated with the relative change in midfoot ROM (r = 0.684). These results suggest that fatigue of TP is associated with the occurrence of flattening of the foot arch. This study provides a clinical implication that monitoring midfoot kinematics can be used to assess the condition of TP

    Comparison of performance of the 2016 ACR-EULAR classification criteria for primary Sjögren\u27s syndrome with other sets of criteria in Japanese patients

    Objectives To compare the performance of the new 2016 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)-European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) classification criteria for primary Sjögren\u27s syndrome (SS) with 1999 revised Japanese Ministry of Health criteria for diagnosis of SS (JPN), 2002 American-European Consensus Group classification criteria for SS (AECG) and 2012 ACR classification criteria for SS (ACR) in Japanese patients.Methods The study subjects were 499 patients with primary SS (pSS) or suspected pSS who were followed up in June 2012 at 10 hospitals in Japan. All patients had been assessed for all four criteria of JPN (pathology, oral, ocular, anti-SS-A/SS-B antibodies). The clinical diagnosis by the physician in charge was set as the ‘gold standard’.Results pSS was diagnosed in 302 patients and ruled out in 197 patients by the physician in charge. The sensitivity of the ACR-EULAR criteria in the diagnosis of pSS (95.4%) was higher than those of the JPN, AECG and ACR (82.1%, 89.4% and 79.1%, respectively), while the specificity of the ACR-EULAR (72.1%) was lower than those of the three sets (90.9%, 84.3% and 84.8%, respectively). The differences of sensitivities and specificities between the ACR-EULAR and other three sets of criteria were statistically significant (p<0.001). Eight out of 302 patients with pSS and 11 cases out of 197 non-pSS cases satisfied only the ACR-EULAR criteria, compared with none of the other three sets.Conclusions The ACR-EULAR criteria had significantly higher sensitivity and lower specificity in diagnosis of pSS, compared with the currently available three sets of criteria

    The Objective of this study is to know influence of nurse therapeutic communication to satisfaction of patients satisfaction in RSUD Yogyakarta. The study was a quantitative research methods such as surveys of descriptive inferential research with cross sectional approach. Number of samples in this research is 285 sample in inpatient and 140 in emergency room. The instrument used a questionnaire. Analysis of data using multiple linear regression. This study show that there is the influence of therapeutic communication nurse to satisfaction of outpatients and Emergency room in RSUD Yogyakarta, and orientation phase is a phase that most influence on patient satisfaction. The most influential to therapeutic communication is termination stage

    Retrospective evaluation of whole exome and genome mutation calls in 746 cancer samples

    Funder: NCI U24CA211006Abstract: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) curated consensus somatic mutation calls using whole exome sequencing (WES) and whole genome sequencing (WGS), respectively. Here, as part of the ICGC/TCGA Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes (PCAWG) Consortium, which aggregated whole genome sequencing data from 2,658 cancers across 38 tumour types, we compare WES and WGS side-by-side from 746 TCGA samples, finding that ~80% of mutations overlap in covered exonic regions. We estimate that low variant allele fraction (VAF < 15%) and clonal heterogeneity contribute up to 68% of private WGS mutations and 71% of private WES mutations. We observe that ~30% of private WGS mutations trace to mutations identified by a single variant caller in WES consensus efforts. WGS captures both ~50% more variation in exonic regions and un-observed mutations in loci with variable GC-content. Together, our analysis highlights technological divergences between two reproducible somatic variant detection efforts

    Proprioceptors involved in stinging response of the honeybee, Apis mellifera

    Two types of mechanosensitive proprioceptor organ are present on the stinging apparatus of the honeybee: campaniform sensilla and mechanosensory hairplates. The campaniform sensilla are located on the surface of the tapering sting-shaft, which comprises an unpaired stylet and paired lancets. Each sensillum on the lancet differs from that on the stylet in terms of their topography and external morphology. The sensory afferents of the campaniform sensilla display slow-adapted firing responses to deformation of the cuticle that would be caused by the action of inserting the sting into a substrate, and their afferent signals induce and/or prolong the stinging response. By contrast, the mechanosensory hairplates are located at basal cuticular plates and on the posterior surface of the lancet valves. Two fields of hairplates on the second ramus at the ventral edge of the groove and on the antero-lateral edge of the oblong plate respond synchronously to protraction of the lancet. During the stinging response, these hairplates are likely to detect any sliding movement of the lancet and its position relative to the stylet. Afferent signals produced by them are likely to provide important information to the neuronal circuit for the generation and modulation of the stinging motor pattern

    Uplift of the Hidaka Collisional Orogen, Hokkaido, Japan Inferred from Stratigraphy and Thermochronology

    This paper reviews the stratigraphic and thermochronologic data concerning the exhumation history of the Hidaka collisional orogen, Hokkaido, Japan. The Neogene sedimentary record of foreland basin suggests that the topographic uplift of the orogen occurred in the Middle Miocene. The first occurrence of large amount of orogen-sourced granite clasts has been found in the Middle Miocene turbidites around 15 Ma. These granite clasts are S-type monzogranite-granodiorite, and show the Paleogene biotite K-Ar ages of 29-46 Ma. These data suggest that they are originated from Paleogene granitic plutons emplaced in the shallow part of the Hidaka crust. On the other hand, the overlying Late Miocene deposits contain clasts of metamorphic rocks and tonalite which are characterized by Miocene biotite K-Ar ages of 16-19 Ma. These clasts of syn-uplift reset ages represent exhumation of the middle part of the crust. The present-day outcrops of the crystalline core zone of the Hidaka orogen show that the upper and middle crustal rocks have Paleogene and Miocene biotite K-Ar ages, respectively. Thus, the diachronic change of detrital materials in the foreland basin together with the above-mentioned thermochronologic contrast simply responds to a normal exhumation of the orogen. To explain the change of detrital assemblages, it was suggested that the different areas of the Hidaka orogen have undergone a significant denudation through two uplift events at Middle and Late Miocene. Our data, however, show a successive exhumation occurred in the southern Hidaka orogen where deepseated crustal rocks now crop out.International Symposium on "Dawn of a New Natural History - Integration of Geoscience and Biodiversity Studies". 5-6 March 2004.
