    Initial Development of Tools to Identify Child Abuse and Neglect in Pediatric Primary Care

    BACKGROUND: Child abuse and neglect (CAN) is prevalent, associated with long-term adversities, and often undetected. Primary care settings offer a unique opportunity to identify CAN and facilitate referrals, when warranted. Electronic health records (EHR) contain extensive information to support healthcare decisions, yet time constraints preclude most providers from thorough EHR reviews that could indicate CAN. Strategies that summarize EHR data to identify CAN and convey this to providers has potential to mitigate CAN-related sequelae. This study used expert review/consensus and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to develop and test a lexicon to characterize children who have experienced or are at risk for CAN and compared machine learning methods to the lexicon + NLP approach to determine the algorithm\u27s performance for identifying CAN. METHODS: Study investigators identified 90 CAN terms and invited an interdisciplinary group of child abuse experts for review and validation. We then used NLP to develop pipelines to finalize the CAN lexicon. Data for pipeline development and refinement were drawn from a randomly selected sample of EHR from patients seen at pediatric primary care clinics within a U.S. academic health center. To explore a machine learning approach for CAN identification, we used Support Vector Machine algorithms. RESULTS: The investigator-generated list of 90 CAN terms were reviewed and validated by 25 invited experts, resulting in a final pool of 133 terms. NLP utilized a randomly selected sample of 14,393 clinical notes from 153 patients to test the lexicon, and .03% of notes were identified as CAN positive. CAN identification varied by clinical note type, with few differences found by provider type (physicians versus nurses, social workers, etc.). An evaluation of the final NLP pipelines indicated 93.8% positive CAN rate for the training set and 71.4% for the test set, with decreased precision attributed primarily to false positives. For the machine learning approach, SVM pipeline performance was 92% for CAN + and 100% for non-CAN, indicating higher sensitivity than specificity. CONCLUSIONS: The NLP algorithm\u27s development and refinement suggest that innovative tools can identify youth at risk for CAN. The next key step is to refine the NLP algorithm to eventually funnel this information to care providers to guide clinical decision making

    Effects of the KCNQ channel opener ezogabine on functional connectivity of the ventral striatum and clinical symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder

    Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disability worldwide, yet current treatment strategies remain limited in their mechanistic diversity. Recent evidence has highlighted a promising novel pharmaceutical target—the KCNQ-type potassium channel—for the treatment of depressive disorders, which may exert a therapeutic effect via functional changes within the brain reward system, including the ventral striatum. The current study assessed the effects of the KCNQ channel opener ezogabine (also known as retigabine) on reward circuitry and clinical symptoms in patients with MDD. Eighteen medication-free individuals with MDD currently in a major depressive episode were enrolled in an open-label study and received ezogabine up to 900 mg/day orally over the course of ten weeks. Resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging data were collected at baseline and post-treatment to examine brain reward circuitry. Reward learning was measured using a computerized probabilistic reward task.     Study of charmonium and charmonium-like contributions in B+ → J/ψηK+ decays

    A study of B+→ J/ψηK+ decays, followed by J/ψ → ÎŒ+Ό− and η → γγ, is performed using a dataset collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. The J/ψη mass spectrum is investigated for contributions from charmonia and charmonium-like states. Evidence is found for the B+→ (ψ2(3823) → J/ψη)K+ and B+→ (ψ(4040) → J/ψη)K+ decays with significance of 3.4 and 4.7 standard deviations, respectively. This constitutes the first evidence for the ψ2(3823) → J/ψη decay

    Observation of the doubly charmed baryon decay Ξcc++→Ξcâ€Č+π+

    The Ξcc++→Ξcâ€Č+π+ decay is observed using proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. The Ξcc++→Ξcâ€Č+π+ decay is reconstructed partially, where the photon from the Ξcâ€Č+→Ξc+Îł decay is not reconstructed and the pK−π+ final state of the Ξc+ baryon is employed. The Ξcc++→Ξcâ€Č+π+branching fraction relative to that of the Ξcc++→Ξc+π+ decay is measured to be 1.41 ± 0.17 ± 0.10, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.     Precision measurement of CP\it{CP} violation in the penguin-mediated decay Bs0→ϕϕB_s^{0}\rightarrow\phi\phi

    A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay Bs0→ϕϕB_s^{0}\rightarrow\phi\phi is performed using pppp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at % at s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV, the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The CP\it{CP}-violating phase and direct CP\it{CP}-violation parameter are measured to be ϕssˉs=−0.042±0.075±0.009\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.042 \pm 0.075 \pm 0.009 rad and ∣λ∣=1.004±0.030±0.009|\lambda|=1.004\pm 0.030 \pm 0.009 , respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the ϕϕ\phi\phi system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using pppp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding ϕssˉs=−0.074±0.069\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.074 \pm 0.069 rad and ∣lambda∣=1.009±0.030|lambda|=1.009 \pm 0.030. This is the most precise study of time-dependent CP\it{CP} violation in a penguin-dominated BB meson decay.     Observation of Cabibbo-suppressed two-body hadronic decays and precision mass measurement of the Ωc0\Omega_{c}^{0} baryon

    The first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed Ωc0→Ω−K+\Omega_{c}^{0}\to\Omega^{-}K^{+} and Ωc0→Ξ−π+\Omega_{c}^{0}\to\Xi^{-}\pi^{+} decays is reported, using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV13\,{\rm TeV}, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−15.4\,{\rm fb}^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector between 2016 and 2018. The branching fraction ratios are measured to be B(Ωc0→Ω−K+)B(Ωc0→Ω−π+)=0.0608±0.0051(stat)±0.0040(syst)\frac{\mathcal{B}(\Omega_{c}^{0}\to\Omega^{-}K^{+})}{\mathcal{B}(\Omega_{c}^{0}\to\Omega^{-}\pi^{+})}=0.0608\pm0.0051({\rm stat})\pm 0.0040({\rm syst}), B(Ωc0→Ξ−π+)B(Ωc0→Ω−π+)=0.1581±0.0087(stat)±0.0043(syst)±0.0016(ext)\frac{\mathcal{B}(\Omega_{c}^{0}\to\Xi^{-}\pi^{+})}{\mathcal{B}(\Omega_{c}^{0}\to\Omega^{-}\pi^{+})}=0.1581\pm0.0087({\rm stat})\pm0.0043({\rm syst})\pm0.0016({\rm ext}).     Test of lepton universality in b→sℓ+ℓ−b \rightarrow s \ell^+ \ell^- decays

    The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using B+→K+ℓ+ℓ−B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}\ell^{+}\ell^{-} and B0→K∗0ℓ+ℓ−B^{0}\rightarrow K^{*0}\ell^{+}\ell^{-} decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton invariant-mass squared, q2q^{2}. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1\mathrm{fb}^{-1}. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q2q^{2} interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements.     Study of charmonium decays to KS0KπK^0_S K \pi in the B→(KS0Kπ)KB \to (K^0_S K \pi) K channels

    A study of the B+→KS0K+K−π+B^+\to K^0_SK^+K^-\pi^+ and B+→KS0K+K+π−B^+\to K^0_SK^+K^+\pi^- decays is performed using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV at the LHCb experiment. The KS0KπK^0_SK \pi invariant mass spectra from both decay modes reveal a rich content of charmonium resonances. New precise measurements of the ηc\eta_c and ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S) resonance parameters are performed and branching fraction measurements are obtained for B+B^+ decays to ηc\eta_c, J/ψJ/\psi, ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S) and χc1\chi_{c1} resonances. In particular, the first observation and branching fraction measurement of B+→χc0K0π+B^+ \to \chi_{c0} K^0 \pi^+ is reported as well as first measurements of the B+→K0K+K−π+B^+\to K^0K^+K^-\pi^+ and B+→K0K+K+π−B^+\to K^0K^+K^+\pi^- branching fractions. Dalitz plot analyses of ηc→KS0Kπ\eta_c \to K^0_SK\pi and ηc(2S)→KS0Kπ\eta_c(2S) \to K^0_SK\pi decays are performed. A new measurement of the amplitude and phase of the KπK \pi SS-wave as functions of the KπK \pi mass is performed, together with measurements of the K0∗(1430)K^*_0(1430), K0∗(1950)K^*_0(1950) and a0(1700)a_0(1700) parameters.     Measurement of ZZ boson production cross-section in pppp collisions at s=5.02\sqrt{s} = 5.02 TeV

    The first measurement of the ZZ boson production cross-section at centre-of-mass energy s=5.02 \sqrt{s} = 5.02\,TeV in the forward region is reported, using pppp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment in year 2017, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 100±2 pb−1100 \pm 2\,\rm{pb^{-1}}. The production cross-section is measured for final-state muons in the pseudorapidity range 2.020 GeV/c2.0 20\,\rm{GeV/}\it{c}. The integrated cross-section is determined to be σZ→Ό+Ό−=39.6±0.7 (stat)±0.6 (syst)±0.8 (lumi) pb \sigma_{Z \rightarrow \mu^{+}\mu^{-}} = 39.6 \pm 0.7\,(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.6\,(\rm{syst}) \pm 0.8\,(\rm{lumi}) \ \rm{pb} for the di-muon invariant mass in the range 60<MΌΌ<120 GeV/c260<M_{\mu\mu}<120\,\rm{GeV/}\it{c^{2}}. This result and the differential cross-section results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in the strong coupling. Based on a previous LHCb measurement of the ZZ boson production cross-section in ppPb collisions at sNN=5.02\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02 TeV, the nuclear modification factor RpPbR_{p\rm{Pb}} is measured for the first time at this energy. The measured values are 1.2−0.3+0.5 (stat)±0.1 (syst)1.2^{+0.5}_{-0.3}\,(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.1\,(\rm{syst}) in the forward region (1.53<yΌ∗<4.031.53<y^*_{\mu}<4.03) and 3.6−0.9+1.6 (stat)±0.2 (syst)3.6^{+1.6}_{-0.9}\,(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.2\,(\rm{syst}) in the backward region (−4.97<yΌ∗<−2.47-4.97<y^*_{\mu}<-2.47), where yΌ∗y^*_{\mu} represents the muon rapidity in the centre-of-mass frame.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2023-010.html (LHCb public pages
