Beam Test Results of the BTeV Silicon Pixel Detector
The results of the BTeV silicon pixel detector beam test carried out at
Fermilab in 1999-2000 are reported. The pixel detector spatial resolution has
been studied as a function of track inclination, sensor bias, and readout
threshold.Comment: 8 pages of text, 8 figures, Proceedings paper of Pixel 2000:

Performance of prototype BTeV silicon pixel detectors in a high energy pion beam
The silicon pixel vertex detector is a key element of the BTeV spectrometer.
Sensors bump-bonded to prototype front-end devices were tested in a high energy
pion beam at Fermilab. The spatial resolution and occupancies as a function of
the pion incident angle were measured for various sensor-readout combinations.
The data are compared with predictions from our Monte Carlo simulation and very
good agreement is found.Comment: 24 pages, 20 figure
Beam Test of BTeV Pixel Detectors
The silicon pixel vertex detector is one of the key elements of the BTeV
spectrometer. Detector prototypes were tested in a beam at Fermilab. We report
here on the measured spatial resolution as a function of the incident angles
for different sensor-readout electronics combinations. We compare the results
with predictions from our Monte Carlo simulation.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, Invited talk given by J.C. Wang at "Vertex 2000,

Phases of Thermal N=2 Quiver Gauge Theories
We consider large N U(N)^M thermal N=2 quiver gauge theories on S^1 x S^3. We
obtain a phase diagram of the theory with R-symmetry chemical potentials,
separating a low-temperature/high-chemical potential region from a
high-temperature/low-chemical potential region. In close analogy with the N=4
SYM case, the free energy is of order O(1) in the low-temperature region and of
order O(N^2 M) in the high-temperature phase. We conclude that the N=2 theory
undergoes a first order Hagedorn phase transition at the curve in the phase
diagram separating these two regions. We observe that in the region of zero
temperature and critical chemical potential the Hilbert space of gauge
invariant operators truncates to smaller subsectors. We compute a l-loop
effective potential with non-zero VEV's for the scalar fields in a sector where
the VEV's are homogeneous and mutually commuting. At low temperatures the
eigenvalues of these VEV's are distributed uniformly over an S^5/Z_M which we
interpret as the emergence of the S^5/Z_M factor of the holographically dual
geometry AdS_5 x S^5/Z_M. Above the Hagedorn transition the eigenvalue
distribution of the Polyakov loop opens a gap, resulting in the collapse of the
joint eigenvalue distribution from S^5/Z_M x S^1 into S^6/Z_M.Comment: 40 pages text + 15 pages appendix, 3 figures, latex; v2: one minor

Gravitational excitons from extra dimensions
Inhomogeneous multidimensional cosmological models with a higher dimensional
space-time manifold are investigated under dimensional reduction. In the
Einstein conformal frame, small excitations of the scale factors of the
internal spaces near minima of an effective potential have a form of massive
scalar fields in the external space-time. Parameters of models which ensure
minima of the effective potentials are obtained for particular cases and masses
of gravitational excitons are estimated.Comment: Revised version --- 12 references added, Introduction enlarged, 20

Evidence for Unusual Dynamical Arrest Scenario in Short Ranged Colloidal Systems
Extensive molecular dynamics simulation studies of particles interacting via
a short ranged attractive square-well (SW) potential are reported. The
calculated loci of constant diffusion coefficient in the
temperature-packing fraction plane show a re-entrant behavior, i.e. an increase
of diffusivity on cooling, confirming an important part of the high
volume-fraction dynamical-arrest scenario earlier predicted by theory for
particles with short ranged potentials. The more efficient localization
mechanism induced by the short range bonding provides, on average, additional
free volume as compared to the hard-sphere case and results in faster dynamics.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
First Observation of Coherent Production in Neutrino Nucleus Interactions with 2 GeV
The MiniBooNE experiment at Fermilab has amassed the largest sample to date
of s produced in neutral current (NC) neutrino-nucleus interactions at
low energy. This paper reports a measurement of the momentum distribution of
s produced in mineral oil (CH) and the first observation of coherent
production below 2 GeV. In the forward direction, the yield of events
observed above the expectation for resonant production is attributed primarily
to coherent production off carbon, but may also include a small contribution
from diffractive production on hydrogen. Integrated over the MiniBooNE neutrino
flux, the sum of the NC coherent and diffractive modes is found to be (19.5
1.1 (stat) 2.5 (sys))% of all exclusive NC production at
MiniBooNE. These measurements are of immediate utility because they quantify an
important background to MiniBooNE's search for
oscillations.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Lett.
Branching Fractions for D0 -> K+K- and D0 -> pi+pi-, and a Search for CP Violation in D0 Decays
Using the large hadroproduced charm sample collected in experiment E791 at
Fermilab, we have measured ratios of branching fractions for the two-body
singly-Cabibbo-suppressed charged decays of the D0:
(D0 -> KK)/(D0 -> Kpi) = 0.109 +- 0.003 +- 0.003,
(D0 -> pipi)/(D0 -> Kpi) = 0.040 +- 0.002 +- 0.003, and
(D0 -> KK)/(D0 -> pipi) = 2.75 +- 0.15 +- 0.16. We have looked for
differences in the decay rates of D0 and D0bar to the CP eigenstates K+K- and
pi+pi-, and have measured the CP asymmetry parameters
A_CP(K+K-) = -0.010 +- 0.049 +- 0.012 and
A_CP(pi+pi-) = -0.049 +- 0.078 +- 0.030, both consistent with zero.Comment: 10 Postscript pages, including 2 figures. Submitted to Phys. Lett.
Asymmetries between the production of D+ and D- mesons from 500 GeV/c pi- nucleon interactions as a function of xF and pt**2
We present asymmetries between the production of D+ and D- mesons in Fermilab
experiment E791 as a function of xF and pt**2. The data used here consist of
74,000 fully-reconstructed charmed mesons produced by a 500 GeV/c pi- beam on C
and Pt foils. The measurements are compared to results of models which predict
differences between the production of heavy-quark mesons that have a light
quark in common with the beam (leading particles) and those that do not
(non-leading particles). While the default models do not agree with our data,
we can reach agreement with one of them, PYTHIA, by making a limited number of
changes to parameters used
