Co-using Infrastructure for Sustainability in Maritime Transports

    Get PDF
Sustainable transportation systems require optimal co-use of infrastructure. Different means of transportation use infrastructure for its operations. At certain points these means of transportation utilizes the same infrastructure, such as e.g. passages on or under bridges, which require co-modal coordination. To create means for such coordination, situational awareness needs to be established among involved actors by digitalization and principles for information sharing. In this short paper, a co-modal transport system, GOTRIS (Göta Älv River Information Services), is used as a basis for a deeper understanding of the challenges for reaching an optimal co-use of infrastructure. By integrating information from maritime transports as one source in this coordination effort, sustainable transportation systems can be reached. This challenge is formulated in a research question and a preferred approach is stated

Det nya Stadsarkivet : en analys av förnyelsen av Malmö stadsarkiv

Over the last decades Sweden’s archival institutions have taken a turn towards becoming open and modern cultural institutions with outreach work. This is especially noted in the City of Malmoe where Malmoe City Archives has undergone a heavy renewal and has among other things been relocated from the prosperous Western Harbour in the outskirts of the city to the more diverse inner city in Möllevången. The modernisation and renewal included extended opening hours, larger public areas, focus on public accessibility and the installation of a small public library. In 2016, mostly due to a more open approach, Malmoe City Archives received the Årets arkiv (Archive of the year) award. The aim of this master thesis is to examine the factors that have contributed to the changes of Malmoe City Archives. Other cultural institutions in Malmö, such as the main public library, have undergone similar renewal reforms in recent years. Our qualitative research methods have consisted of document analysis as well as semi-structured interviews. Our findings show that there are mainly two factors that have driven the renewal of the City Archives. One being the development towards being a socially sustainable city, where the aims are to “lower the barriers” and to make sure that outreach work is directed towards a more diverse group of users. Inspiration is gathered from Malmoe City Library and Idea stores in London. The Commission for a socially sustainable Malmoe concludes in its report that the lack of meeting places is what results in alienation, segregation and insecurity. Due to this, meeting places or “third places” are a priority within the Cultural Administration, of which the Malmoe City Archives is a part. The second important factor of the renewal is to contribute to the marketing of Malmoe city and to create an attractive city, both for inhabitants and visitors as well as the private sector. The cultural institutions in Malmoe, for example public libraries and museums, are to contribute to the experience and entertainment sector, which also affects Malmoe City Archives. This broadens the work conducted by the City Archives and leads to similar cultural institutions. We conclude that outreach work is important and vital in order to make the archive known to the public. However, knowledge and expertise in the somewhat traditional archival duties must be seen as an important foundation on which archives are built

    Venøs blodgasanalyse i akutmodtagelsen

    Get PDF

Transmitter mask testing for 28 GBaud PM-QPSK

    Get PDF
We suggest a method for pass/fail testing of PM-QPSK transmitters. The test is based on mask testing with time-resolved EVM and accepts transmitters where individual impairments cause less than 0.5 dB OSNR penalty. The design of the test is performed by computer simulations followed by experimental verification of some key results

Skewed caches from a low-power perspective

The common approach to reduce cache conflicts is to in-crease the associativity. From a dynamic power perspective this associativity comes at a high cost. In this paper we present miss ratio performance and a dynamic power com-parison for set-associative caches, a skewed cache and also for a new organization proposed, the elbow cache. The el-bow cache extends the skewed cache organization with a relocation strategy for conflicting blocks. We show that these skewed designs significantly reduce the conflict problems while consuming up to 56 % less dy-namic power than a comparably performing 8-way set as-sociative cache. We believe this to be the strongest case in favor of skewed caches presented so far

Effect of starch and fibre on faba bean protein gel characteristics

Faba bean is a promising alternative to soybean for production of protein-rich plant-based foods. Increased understanding of the gelling behaviour of non-soy legumes can facilitate development of novel plant-based foods based on other legumes, such as faba bean. A mixture design was used in this study to evaluate the effect of different proportions of protein, starch and fibre fractions extracted from faba beans on gelation properties, texture and microstructure of the resulting gels. Large deformation properties, in terms of fracture stress and fracture strain, decreased as fibre and/or starch replaced protein. In contrast, Young\u27s modulus and storage modulus increased with substitution of the protein. Light microscopy revealed that for all gels, protein remained the continuous phase within the region studied (65–100% protein fraction, 0–35% starch fraction, 0–10% fibre fraction in total flour added). Swollen and deformed starch granules were distributed throughout the mixed gels with added starch. Leaked amylose aggregated on starch and fibre surfaces and in small cavities (<1 μm) throughout the protein network. No clear difference between samples in protein network structure was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The reduction in large deformation properties was tentatively attributed to inhomogeneities created by the added starch and fibre. The increase in small deformation properties was hypothesised to be affected by water adsorption and moisture stability through the starch and fibre, increasing the effective protein concentration in the surrounding matrix and enhancing the protein network, or potentially by starch granules and fibre particles acting as active fillers reinforcing the gel structure

Viewpoints on Environmental Assessment of Building Certification Method - Miljöbyggnad

    Get PDF
Production, management, use, and end-of-life of buildings has a large impact on climate change. Therefore, environmental targets are set to lower the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the building sector. To reach these targets building regulation and voluntary environmental assessment methods (EAMs) that evaluate and certify the building’s environmental impact are put forward as tools to push the building sector towards lower GHG emissions. In Sweden, building design is governed by building regulations and the dominant EAM is ‘Miljöbyggnad’ (MB) (“Environmental building”). Today, more than 1900 buildings have been certified by MB and it has influenced the building and property sector. In this chapter the potential impact MB and the linked Swedish building regulations have on building performance, energy use and GHG emissions, will be reviewed and discussed. The analysis investigates several of the MB’s indicators, evaluate to what degree EAMs can influence the design of the building and the energy system to lower the energy use and GHG emissions based on material choices. The analysis presents important aspects that may influence the design of the building and its energy system and what challenges and possibilities the indicators, criteria and regulations can have on buildings and climate change. In addition, some modification and suggestion for improvements are presented
