    The Current Standing and Future Prospects of ARTS and Culture in Ethiopia

    This research article explores the current state of affairs of arts and culture sector in Ethiopia. An in-depth analysis of various dimensions of art and culture highlights where the country is presently lacking in governance and socio-economic progress in the sector. A qualitative research was carried out to collect primary data. 52 respondents were chosen to be interviewed from Bahir Dar University by the method of quota sampling and the results were analyzed. Secondary data was also analyzed through academic literature from universities in Ethiopia, reports from government and development organizations. Survey results and existing academic literature have guided to single out major hindrances to this sector. In this research it can be confirmed, that the arts and culture sector needs a major intervention in terms of governance and marketing. This research gives out a very structural strategy, based on cultural governance, cultural economics and strategies of new business development as it pillars to support the prosperity of this sector in Ethiopia. The existing academic research provides data on different arts and culture and problems which are specific to a particular region of the country. Whereas this article goes a step further in enforcing the ordinance of cultural governance to the responsible government bodies both locally and nationally and simultaneously highlights how economic progress can be achieved through this sector. Cultural governance as a directive has never been implemented in transition economies and this article will serve as a directive for the future. This article shall be very beneficial for further research in this sector and structuring the work of government bodies, stake holders and the people involved in the sector within Ethiopia

    Robust stability of discrete time systems under parametric perturbations

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.Stability robustness analysis of a system under parametric perturbations is concerned with characterizing a region in the parameter space in which the system remains stable. In this paper, two methods are presented to estimate the stability robustness region of a linear, time-invariant, discrete-time system under multiparameter additive perturbations. An inherent difficulty, which originates from the nonlinear appearance of the perturbation parameters in the inequalities defining the robustness region, is resolved by transforming the problem to stability of a higher order continuous-time system. This allows for application of the available results on stability robustness of continuous-time systems to discrete-time systems. The results are also applied to stability analysis of discrete-time interconnected systems, where the interconnections are treated as perturbations on decoupled stable subsystems

    Drug utilization study of anti-hypertensive drugs and prescription pattern adherence with joint national committee-8 guideline

    Background: Hypertension is a major and serious non-communicable disease. It is also a major risk factor for cerebrovascular strokes, coronary artery thrombosis, and renal failure. The overall prevalence of hypertension in India is 29.8%. Joint national committee-8 guidelines on prevention, detection, evaluation, and treatment of high blood pressure highlight that aggressive blood pressure control is essential for the reduction of hypertension-associated morbidity and mortality.Methods: It was a cross-sectional, observational study. Prescriptions were collected from four pharmacy stores located in four different areas of Ahmedabad over a period of 2 months. These were analysed along with relevant co-morbidities and, the level of prescription pattern adherence was assessed as per JNC 8 guidelines. Appropriate statistical tests were applied for analyses of collected data.Results: A total of 321 prescriptions were collected. Out of them, 186(57.9%) were prescribed to male patients while 135 (42.1%) were for female patients. Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure was found to be 152 mmHg and 91 mmHg respectively. The mean age of the patients was found to be 44.63 years. A total of 209 (65.1%), 91 (28.34%), 21 (6.54%) prescriptions had monotherapy, dual therapy, and polytherapy for treating hypertension respectively. Amlodipine (CCBs) was found to be the most commonly prescribed medicine as a monotherapy. The overall adherence rate was found to be 77.88%.Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that medical professionals are not completely adhering to standard guidelines while prescribing antihypertensive drugs. There is substantial scope for improvement, particularly the utilization of antihypertensive agents in patients of the pre-hypertension category, where non-pharmacological measures play an important role to treat the condition.

    Not All Comments are Equal: Insights into Comment Moderation from a Topic-Aware Model

    Moderation of reader comments is a significant problem for online news platforms. Here, we experiment with models for automatic moderation, using a dataset of comments from a popular Croatian newspaper. Our analysis shows that while comments that violate the moderation rules mostly share common linguistic and thematic features, their content varies across the different sections of the newspaper. We therefore make our models topic-aware, incorporating semantic features from a topic model into the classification decision. Our results show that topic information improves the performance of the model, increases its confidence in correct outputs, and helps us understand the model's outputs

    Neuro-fuzzy controller for active ankle foot orthosis

    SummaryThe ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is as an assistive device used in foot disability for gait improvement. The objective of this paper was to design a neuro fuzzy controller for an AFO. Adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was selected after a detailed study of existing neuro-fuzzy architectures. Data of gait pattern was collected with the help of analog gyro sensors. This data was fed to the ANFIS and a fuzzy rule base was created to complete the neuro-fuzzy system which was used to control the gait pattern. Angular velocity and angle of feet served as inputs to the controller and the output was actuation. The results obtained showed sigmoidal membership functions for the various inputs and outputs due to their close resemblance with the normal human gait. Output of the ANFIS showcased the initial data which was fed to the system; the modified data; changed membership functions and error after training
