However, this thesis argues that no study of seventeenth-century French court culture is complete without an understanding of Beauchamps, not only because of his role in fashioning the identity of the Sun King, but also because his biography demonstrates that self-fashioning was not limited to aristocratic and royal circles

    The Relationship Between Methods of Calculating the AHI and Daytime Sleepiness, Severity of Sleep Apnea, and CPAP Pressure Settings

    Sleep apnea impacts one\u27s mental and physical health, and has social consequences which affect all of society. Not only is there is a weak correlation between the severity of sleep apnea and daytime sleepiness as reported on the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), but there is also a weak correlation between the severity of sleep apnea and prescribed treatment as indicated by 95th percentile pressure on a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine. This poses difficulty for providers as well as patients throughout screening and treatment. The purpose of this study was to use a biopsychosocial approach to perform a within-subjects analysis in order to quantitatively investigate methods of calculating the severity of sleep apnea. The study included historical data of 75 participants, each diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, prescribed Automatic CPAP therapy, and compliant with treatment. The Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) was calculated in the current fashion and also while considering the length of a respiratory event, type of respiratory event, and the combination of these two factors. Linear regression was used to determine if there is a significant difference in the relationships between the AHI and the ESS as well as the AHI and the 95th percentile CPAP pressure. Results endorsed neither a strong relationship between the AHIs and the ESS nor a strong relationship between the AHIs and 95th percentile CPAP pressure either. However, the relationships were somewhat stronger when considering the length and type of the respiratory event. Findings support a need for future research to explore these relationships and offer more accurate screening and treatment of individuals with sleep apnea. Ultimately, those with sleep apnea will experience an improvement in mental, physical and social functioning which may positively impact those without sleep apnea

    Extended high frequency (EHF) information (≥ 8 kHz) plays a significant role in speech understanding for both adults and children (e.g., Monson et al., 2019; Braza et al., 2021; Flaherty et al., 2021). However, measurement protocols at EHFs are not well established. Detection thresholds above 8 kHz can be highly variable (Plack et al., 2019). Some researchers suggest separate normative reference values for listeners above and below 18 years old (Hemmingson et al., 2021)

    How Much In-Kind Support Do Low-Income Nonresident Fathers Provide? A Mixed-Method Analysis

    Past child support research has largely focused on cash payments made through the courts (formal support) or given directly to the mother (informal support), almost to the exclusion of a third type: non-cash goods (in-kind support). Drawing on repeated, semistructured interviews with nearly 400 low-income noncustodial fathers, the authors found that in-kind support constitutes about one quarter of total support. Children in receipt of some in-kind support receive, on average, $60 per month worth of goods. Multilevel regression analyses demonstrated that children who are younger and have more hours of visitation, as well as those whose father has a high school education and no current substance abuse problem, receive in-kind support of greater value. Yet children whose fathers lack stable employment, or are Black, receive a greater proportion of their total support in kind. A subsequent qualitative analysis revealed that fathers' logic for providing in-kind support is primarily relational, and not financial

    Acquiring, archiving, analyzing and exchanging seismic data in real time at the Seismological Research Center of the OGS in Italy

    The Centro di Ricerche Sismologiche (CRS, Seismological Research Center) of the Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale (OGS, Italian National Institute for Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics) in Udine (Italy) after the strong earthquake (magnitude M=6.4) occurred in 1976 in the Italian Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, started to operate the North-east Italy (NI) seismic network: it currently consists of 11 very sensitive broad band and 23 more simple short period seismic stations, all telemetered to and acquired in real time at the OGS-CRS data center in Udine. Real time data exchange agreements in place with other Italian, Slovenian, Austrian and Swiss seismological institutes lead to a total number of 89 seismic stations acquired in real time, which makes the OGS the reference institute for seismic monitoring of Northeastern Italy. Since 2002 OGS-CRS is using the Antelope software suite as the main tool for collecting, analyzing, archiving and exchanging seismic data in the framework of the EU Interreg IIIA project “Trans-national seismological networks in the South-Eastern Alps”. SeisComP is also used as a real time data exchange server tool. At OGS-CRS we then adapted existing programs and created new ones like: a customized web-accessible server to manually relocate earthquakes, a script for automatic moment tensor determination, scripts for web publishing of earthquake parametric data, waveforms, state of health parameters and shaking maps, noise characterization by means of automatic spectra analysis, plus scripts for email/SMS/fax alerting. A new OGS-CRS real time web site has also been recently designed and made operative in the framework of the DPC-INGV S3 Project

    Positive Surgical Margins in the 10 Most Common Solid Cancers.

    A positive surgical margin (PSM) following cancer resection oftentimes necessitates adjuvant treatments and carries significant financial and prognostic implications. We sought to compare PSM rates for the ten most common solid cancers in the United States, and to assess trends over time. Over 10 million patients were identified in the National Cancer Data Base from 1998-2012, and 6.5 million had surgical margin data. PSM rates were compared between two time periods, 1998-2002 and 2008-2012. PSM was positively correlated with tumor category and grade. Ovarian and prostate cancers had the highest PSM prevalence in women and men, respectively. The highest PSM rates for cancers affecting both genders were seen for oral cavity tumors. PSM rates for breast cancer and lung and bronchus cancer in both men and women declined over the study period. PSM increases were seen for bladder, colon and rectum, and kidney and renal pelvis cancers. This large-scale analysis appraises the magnitude of PSM in the United States in order to focus future efforts on improving oncologic surgical care with the goal of optimizing value and improving patient outcomes
