Feynman rules for string field theories with discrete target space
We derive a minimal set of Feynman rules for the loop amplitudes in unitary
models of closed strings, whose target space is a simply laced (extended)
Dynkin diagram. The string field Feynman graphs are composed of propagators,
vertices (including tadpoles) of all topologies, and leg factors for the
macroscopic loops. A vertex of given topology factorizes into a fusion
coefficient for the matter fields and an intersection number associated with
the corresponding punctured surface. As illustration we obtain explicit
expressions for the genus-one tadpole and the genus-zero four-loop amplitude.Comment: 19 pages, harvmac, 4 uuencoded figures included using epsf. A missing

Gauge theories of spacetime symmetries
Gauge theories of conformal spacetime symmetries are presented which merge
features of Yang-Mills theory and general relativity in a new way. The models
are local but nonpolynomial in the gauge fields, with a nonpolynomial structure
that can be elegantly written in terms of a metric (or vielbein) composed of
the gauge fields. General relativity itself emerges from the construction as a
gauge theory of spacetime translations. The role of the models within a general
classification of consistent interactions of gauge fields is discussed as well.Comment: 8 pages, revtex; v2: minor improvements of text and formulas; v3:

Subaortic Stenosis Following Anatomic Correction for Transposition of the Great Arteries
comunicação interventricular, submetida a
switch arterial e encerramento da
comunicação interventricular. Durante o
seguimento pós-operatório detectou-se um
obstáculo entre o ventrículo esquerdo e a
aorta ascendente que foi, inicialmente, de
grau ligeiro. No último ano começou a referir
sintomatologia (cansaço para esforços
moderados). Na avaliação efectuada
detectou-se uma estenose aórtica subvalvular
grave, tendo o doente sido submetido a
tratamento cirúrgico, com bom resultado.
A estenose aórtica subvalvular é uma
complicação rara, que tem sido descrita em
estudos de follow-up de switch arterial,
sobretudo nas situações em que o defeito
primário é a transposição das grandes
artérias com comunicação interventricular
Gauge and Poincare' Invariant Regularization and Hopf Symmetries
We consider the regularization of a gauge quantum field theory following a
modification of the Polchinski proof based on the introduction of a cutoff
function. We work with a Poincare' invariant deformation of the ordinary
point-wise product of fields introduced by Ardalan, Arfaei, Ghasemkhani and
Sadooghi, and show that it yields, through a limiting procedure of the cutoff
functions, to a regularized theory, preserving all symmetries at every stage.
The new gauge symmetry yields a new Hopf algebra with deformed co-structures,
which is inequivalent to the standard one.Comment: Revised version. 14 pages. Incorrect statements eliminate
Spacetime Fermions in Light-cone Gauge Superstring Field Theory and Dimensional Regularization
We consider the dimensional regularization of the light-cone gauge type II
superstring field theories in the NSR formalism. In the previous work, we have
calculated the tree-level amplitudes with external lines in the (NS,NS) sector
using the regularization and shown that the desired results are obtained
without introducing contact term interactions. In this work, we study the
tree-level amplitudes with external lines in the Ramond sector. In order to
deal with them, we propose a worldsheet theory to be used instead of that for
the naive dimensional regularization. With the worldsheet theory, we regularize
and define the tree-level amplitudes by analytic continuation. We show that the
results coincide with those of the first quantized formulation.Comment: 28 pages, 5 figures; v2: more details of our manipulations in

N-String Vertices in String Field Theory
We give the general form of the vertex corresponding to the interaction of an
arbitrary number of strings. The technique employed relies on the ``comma"
representation of String Field Theory where string fields and interactions are
represented as matrices and operations between them such as multiplication and
trace. The general formulation presented here shows that the interaction vertex
of N strings, for any arbitrary N, is given as a function of particular
combinations of matrices corresponding to the change of representation between
the full string and the half string degrees of freedom.Comment: 22 pages, A4-Latex (latex twice), FTUV IFI
Permanent Junctional Reciprocating Tachycardia: an Incessant Tachycardia in Children
A taquicardia juncional recíproca permanente
Objectivo: Rever as características clínicas
mais significativas desta arritmia, a sua
evolução e as opções terapêuticas actuais.
Métodos: estudo retrospectivo, analisando a
forma de apresentação e evolução, com
particular relevo para a resposta à terapêutica farmacológica e alternativas terapêuticas.
Doentes: Grupo de 5 doentes com o diagnóstico
de taquicardia juncional recíproca permanente.
Resultados: As crianças estudadas tinham
idades compreendidas entre os 14 dias e os 12
anos. Três encontravam-se assintomáticas. O
Conclusões: A taquicardia juncional recíproca
permanente tem diversas formas de
apresentação. A terapêutica farmacológica é
recomendada, mas tem carácter transitório. A
ablação por radiofrequência é o tratamento
definitivo, estando condicionada pela idade dos doentes
The Classical and Quantum Theory of Relativistic p-Branes without Constraints
It is shown that a relativistic (i.e. a Poincar{\' e} invariant) theory of
extended objects (called p-branes) is not necessarily invariant under
reparametrizations of corresponding -dimensional worldsheets (including
worldlines for ). Consequnetly, no constraints among the dynamical
variables are necessary and quantization is straightforward. Additional degrees
of freedom so obtained are given a physical interpretation as being related to
membrane's elastic deformations ("wiggleness"). In particular, such a more
general, unconstrained theory implies as solutions also those p-brane states
that are solutions of the conventional theory of the Dirac-Nambu-Goto type.Comment: 21 page
Sotalol in the Treatment of Fetal Tachyarrhythmia
A idade
média de gestação na apresentação foi de 30
semanas.
Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome with in Utero Closed Foramen Ovale: Case Report
Apresenta-se o caso clínico de um recém-
-nascido (RN) do sexo masculino, com
diagnóstico pré-natal de síndrome do coração
esquerdo hipoplásico (SCEH), referenciado às
37 semanas de gestação.
No ecocardiograma fetal apresentava SCEH
clássico com atrésia da aorta, válvula mitral
permeável e septo interauricular espessado,
mas com foramen ovale (FO) aparentemente
permeável. Parto eutócico de termo, PN =
2540g, necessidade de intubação
endotraqueal com ventilação assistida e
prostaglandina E1 intravenosa.
Imediatamente após o parto verificou-se
agravamento clínico com deterioração dos
valores gasimétricos. O ecocardiograma
confirmou o diagnóstico, levantando a
suspeita de encerramento do FO, que se
confirmou no exame hemodinâmico, feito de
seguida. Tentativa de atrioseptostomia de
Rashkind, sem sucesso. O RN faleceu, tendo
a autópsia revelado SCEH com FO encerrado,
seio coronário aumentado e extensas
linfangiectasias pulmonares. O aumento do
seio coronário levou, neste caso, ao
diagnóstico pré-natal errado de FO permeável
com shunt esquerdo-direito
