    Daydreaming factories

    Get PDF
Optimisation of factories, a cornerstone of production engineering for the past half century, relies on formulating the challenges with limited degrees of freedom. In this paper, technological advances are reviewed to propose a “daydreaming” framework for factories that use their cognitive capacity for looking into the future or “foresighting”. Assessing and learning from the possible eventualities enable breakthroughs with many degrees of freedom and make daydreaming factories antifragile. In these factories with augmented and reciprocal learning and foresighting processes, revolutionary reactions to external and internal stimuli are unnecessary and industrial co-evolution of people, processes and products will replace industrial revolutions

The aim of this research is to know the income and the profitability business value in tofu industry “Afifah” Palu City. This research already implemented started February until March 2016. The determination of respondent was done intentionally (purposive). The number of respondent taken as many as 10 people from 42 labor. Analysis result of income indicates that the average income acquired from tofu industry “Afifah” during two-month Rp 52.606.058,5. Analysis result of profitability showed that the investment and capital issued for excellent gain produced that showed by ROI and ROE value increase from February to March 5,76% for each 7,35% and 10,87%, 16,18%

Boundary conditions and symplectic structure in the Chern-Simons formulation of (2+1)-dimensional gravity

We propose a description of open universes in the Chern-Simons formulation of (2+1)-dimensional gravity where spatial infinity is implemented as a puncture. At this puncture, additional variables are introduced which lie in the cotangent bundle of the Poincar\'e group, and coupled minimally to the Chern-Simons gauge field. We apply this description of spatial infinity to open universes of general genus and with an arbitrary number of massive spinning particles. Using results of [9] we give a finite dimensional description of the phase space and determine its symplectic structure. In the special case of a genus zero universe with spinless particles, we compare our result to the symplectic structure computed by Matschull in the metric formulation of (2+1)-dimensional gravity. We comment on the quantisation of the phase space and derive a quantisation condition for the total mass and spin of an open universe.Comment: 44 pages, 3 eps figure

The Development of a Comprehensive Mechanism for Intracellular Calcium Oscillations: A Theoretical Approach and an Experimental Validation

    Get PDF
Calcium is an important second messenger for cellular communication. Theoretical models help scientists understand its signalling mechanism. A comprehensive model was developed in order to minimize any limitations in the models currently presented in the literature. Experimental results support the model and therefore the theoretical model provides a plausible explanation of the dynamics of the calcium-signaling mechanism. In the future, additional verification will be performed using various experimental configurations on PC12 cells. Further, the model will be used to predict the response of cells to environmental factors such as pesticides and heavy metals

    A study of Otomycosis

Introduction: Fungi constitute a large diverse group of heterotrophic organisms, most of which are found as saprophytes in the soil and decaying plant material. They are eukaryotes with nearly 50,000 species. They are essential in breaking down and recycling of organic matter. Some species contribute to the production of food, spirits, antibiotics and an array of enzymes. Incidence of fungal infections has been grossly underestimated. Fungal infections are on the increase due to improved survival of immuno suppressed patients and better diagnostic facilities. Only 100 to 150 species are generally recognized as a cause of disease in humans. The present study was aimed at finding out the common fungus, predisposing factors for Otomycosis and doing drug susceptibility of the fungi isolated for Clo-trimazole. This was done at Government Rajaji Hospital attached to Madurai Medical College for a period of one and half year from 2005 to 2006. Conclusion: The incidence of Otomycosis is more during monsoon period. Males are more affected. Unilateral incidence of disease is common. CSOM is the most common predisposing factor. Aspergillus flavus is the most common fungal isolate. Aspergillus flavus is the most common isolate in agriculturists and labourers. (outdoor workers). Aspergillus niger is the common fungal isolate in females. A. flavus, A. niger, A. fumigatus and A. glaucus and candida are sensitive to Clo-trimazole drops. The frequency of recovery of certain fungal species such as A. flavus, A. niger, A. terreus and Candida albicans from Otomycosis reflects the great ubiquity of the distribution of their spores and hence exposure to them. Systemic illness play an important role in the recurrence of otomycosis. Inadequate aural toilet plays a role in recurrence

Polygon model from first order gravity

The gauge fixed polygon model of 2+1 gravity with zero cosmological constant and arbitrary number of spinless point particles is reconstructed from the first order formalism of the theory in terms of the triad and the spin connection. The induced symplectic structure is calculated and shown to agree with the canonical one in terms of the variables.Comment: 20 pages, presentation improved, typos correcte

Structure-property studies of thermoplastics and thermosetting polyurethanes using palm and soya oils-based polyols

    Get PDF
Palm and soya oils were converted to monoglycerides via transesterification of triglycerides with glycerol by one step process to produce renewable polyols. Thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPPUs) were prepared from the reaction of the monoglycerides which act as polyol with 4,4′-methylenediphenyldiisocyanate (MDI) whereas, thermosetting polyurethanes (TSPUs) were prepared from the reaction of glycerol, MDI and monoglycerides in one pot. Characterization of the polyurethanes was carried out by FT-IR, 1H NMR, and iodine value and sol-gel fraction. The TSPUs showed good thermal properties compared to TPPUs as well as TSPUs exhibits good properties in pencil hardness and adhesion, however poorer in flexural and impact strength compared to TPPUs. The higher percentage of cross linked fraction, the higher degree of cross linking occurred, which is due to the higher number of double bond presents in the TSPUs. These were reflected in iodine value test as the highest iodine value of the soya-based thermosetting polyurethanes confirmed the highest degree of cross linking. Polyurethanes based on soya oil showed better properties compared to palm oil. This study is a breakthrough development of polyurethane resins using palm and soya oils as one of the raw materials
