Identification of excited states in 107Te

    Get PDF
Excited states in the extremely neutron-deficient nucleus 107Te have been identified from two separate experiments using the recoil-decay tagging technique. Two connected structures were observed on the basis of γγ-coincidence relations and tentatively assigned as built on the mixed-parentage νg7/2d5/2 and νh11/2 intruder configurations. The observed structures were compared with large-scale shell-model calculations and total Routhian surface calculations. Collective behavior was discovered to persist in the νh11/2 band of 107Te which highlights the shape-polarizing effect of a single valence neutron occupying the h11/2 intruder orbit as the N=50 shell closure is approached.peerReviewe

Determination of indoor radon levels at campuses of uskudar and Okan Universities

4th International Conference on Computational and Experimental Science and Engineering (ICCESEN) -- OCT 04-08, 2017 -- Kemer, TURKEY --Radon is the largest source of natural radiation all people exposed to. It can form in houses due to building materials or enters through cracks in walls, basement floors and with water used in bathroom showers and faucets. The buildings keep radon inside, where it accumulates and may become a health hazard if the building is not properly ventilated. Radon can be inhaled into the lung, and especially short-lived products of its disintegration can cause long-term internal exposure. In this study, indoor radon survey was carried out at several campuses of uskudar and Okan Universities by using AlphaGUARD active radon detector.WOS:0004788945000422-s2.0-8506819373

The Effect of Meteorological Parameters on Radon Concentration in Soil Gas

    No full text
The production of ²²²Rn depends on the activity concentrations of ²²⁶Ra in the earth's crust, in soil, rock and water. Radon concentration levels are strongly affected by atmospheric influences such as rainfall, real humidity, temperature and barometric pressure, rather than by chemical processes, as it is an inert gas. In particular the exhalation of radon is positively correlated with moisture content, temperature and negatively with pressure, so that these factors must be considered in the determination of exhalation rates in environmental measurements. In this study, radon concentrations in soil gas were continuously monitored for nine months in ten minutes periods, using AlphaGUARD system and the fluctuations of radon concentration were compared with the regional meteorologic data, using time graphs

Challenges in the management of an ignored cause of hyperammonemic encephalopathy: Pyruvate carboxylase deficiency

    No full text
Pyruvate carboxylase (PC) deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive disease and provides clinics in three essential phenotypes. Type B PC deficiency is characterized by lactic acidosis and hyperammonemia. We report a Turkish patient who was diagnosed with type B PC deficiency. Despite the application of anaplerotic treatment with biotin, citrate and arginine-aspartate, continuous veno-venous hemodialysis (CVVHD) treatments were applied due to the failure to keep hyperammonemia and lactic acidosis under control. Ammonia values increasing to 860 µmol/L were observed. A homozygous novel variant was detected in PC gene analyses containing a 12-base pair deletion on exon 8. Although the mutation found was not reported previously, it was accepted as a pathogenic variant due to its presence in a functional region of the protein. In type B PC deficiency, although a high level of ammonia is expected, it rarely exceeds 200 µmol/L. As far as we know, the present case has the highest ammonia values in the literature. This paper has been shared to highlight to keep PC deficiency in mind regarding the differential diagnosis of hyperammonemia, particularly in the presence of lactic acidosis, and to serve as a model for the use of different modalities in the management process of PC deficiency. © 2020 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston 2020
