Effect of Vitamin E, Lutein, Selenium and Oil Mixture Added to Feed and Cooking Length on Yolk Color and Egg Quality
The aim of this research was to determine the quality of eggs laid by Tetra SL hens fed standard diet (B) or diet supplemented with 100 mg vitamin E/kg+200 mg/kg lutein+0.5 mg/kg selenium+5% oil mixture (BK). The effect of treatment was determined for yolk color values (P0.05). However, the treatment had statistically significant effect (P0.05)
POVEĆANJE SADRŽAJA N-3 PUFA U JAJIMA
The research on effects of different oils on the profile of fatty acids in egg yolks was performed on 80 ISA Brown laying hens (40 in control and 40 in experimental group). Hens were 50 weeks old. The control group of hens was fed diets supplemented with sunflower oil (6%), and the experimental group was given a combination of rapeseed oil (4%) and fish oil (2%). Hens’ diets contained 16.8% of crude protein and 11.57 MJ ME. The research lasted for 28 days. Content of fatty acids in yolk lipids was determined on 10 samples taken from each group. Supplemented oils (sunflower, rapeseed and fish oil) in hens’ diets had significant effect on the profile of fatty acids in yolk lipids. Compared to the control group, yolk lipids of eggs produced by hens in the experimental group contained significantly higher (P<0.001) portion of favorable fatty acids (linolenic, C18:3n-3; eicosapentaenoic, C20:5n-3 and docosahexaenoic, C22:6n-3). Moreover, the experimental group of hens laid eggs that contained less unfavorable saturated fatty acids (P<0.001) and less linoleic (C18:2n-6) and arachidonic acid (C20:4n-6) in their lipids. Content of oleic acid (C18:1) and total monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) was significantly higher (P<0.001) in yolk lipids of the experimental group. The experimental group contained less unfavorable polyunsaturated fatty acids of the n-6 type (n-6 PUFA, P<0.001), more favorable fatty acids of the n-3 type (n-3 PUFA, P<0.001) and more favorable n-6 / n-3 PUFA ratio (P<0.001) in yolk lipids than the control group.
In the Republic of Croatia, game meat is consumed far less than meat of domestic animals. Yearly game meat consumption amounts to only 0.55 kg per household member. Consumers prefer meat of domestic animals, because it is cheaper, not paying attention to specific nutritive advantages of game meat. A research on the game meat market and consumers’ preferences was carried out on 101 examinees, chosen among inhabitants of Slavonia and Baranja. The majority of questioned inhabitants did consume game meat (92%), of whom 66% consider game meat to be of better quality than meat of domestic animals. Significant number of examinees considers game meat as healthy food, being also convinced that game was healthier to consume if hunted in their natural environment, than if reared on specialized farms (90%). Irrespective of quality, only 22% of examinees buy game meat, and 51% think such meat is too expensive. This is the main reason why consumers have game meat only once a month (51%). Taking into consideration monthly income of their respective household, 58% of examinees can afford game meat only once a month, and, if having an opportunity, they would opt for meat of roe deer (55%) and rabbit (25%). When asked what would stimulate the game meat market in Croatia, 56% of examinees believe this could be achieved by lowering of prices, 27% think the issue could be addressed by opening of specialty stores, and only 17% opted for more aggressive marketing activities.
Analysis of the HELIOS-3 Data within a Relativistic Transport Approach
We present a nonperturbative dynamical study of production in
proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at SPS energies on the basis of
the covariant transport approach HSD. For p + W reactions at 200 GeV bombarding
energy the dimuon yield for invariant masses m 1.6 GeV is found to be
dominated by the decays of the and mesons. For 200
GeV/A S + W collisions, however, the dimuon yield shows an additional large
contribution from , and channels. We find that
for `free' meson masses and form factors the experimental cross section is
clearly underestimated for S + W in the invariant mass range 0.35 GeV m
0.65 GeV and that the HELIOS-3 data can only be reproduced within a
hadronic scenario, if the -meson mass drops with baryon density.
This finding suggests a partial restoration of chiral symmetry in S + W
collisions at SPS energies.Comment: 11 pages, 5 postscript figure
Improved understanding of dynamic water and mass budgets of high‐alpine karst systems obtained from studying a well‐defined catchment area
Large areas of Europe, especially in the Alps, are covered by carbonate rocks and in many alpine regions, karst springs are important sources for drinking water supply. Because of their high variability and heterogeneity, the understanding of the hydrogeological functioning of karst aquifers is of particular importance for their protection and utilisation. Climate change and heavy rainfall events are major challenges in managing alpine karst aquifers which possess an enormous potential for future drinking water supply. In this study, we present research from a high‐alpine karst system in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Großes Walsertal in Austria, which has a clearly defined catchment and is drained by only one spring system. Results show that (a) the investigated system is a highly dynamic karst aquifer with distinct reactions to rainfall events in discharge and electrical conductivity; (b) the estimated transient atmospheric CO2 sink is about 270 t/a; (c) the calculated carbonate rock denudation rate is between 23 and 47 mm/1000a and (d) the rainfall‐discharge behaviour and the internal flow dynamics can be successfully simulated using the modelling package KarstMod. The modelling results indicate the relevance of matrix storage in determining the discharge behaviour of the spring, particularly during low‐flow periods. This research and the consequent results can contribute and initiate a better understanding and management of alpine karst aquifers considering climate change with more heavy rainfall events and also longer dry periods. The investigated karst system contributes to the transient atmospheric CO2 sink with about 270 t/a.
Carbonate denudation rates vary between 23 and 47 mm/1000a.
Rainfall‐discharge modelling results indicate the importance of matrix storage particularly during low‐flow periods.

Theory of Photoluminescence of the Quantum Hall State: Excitons, Spin-Waves and Spin-Textures
We study the theory of intrinsic photoluminescence of two-dimensional
electron systems in the vicinity of the quantum Hall state. We focus
predominantly on the recombination of a band of initial ``excitonic states''
that are the low-lying energy states of our model at . It is shown that
the recombination of excitonic states can account for recent observations of
the polarization-resolved spectra of a high-mobility GaAs quantum well. The
asymmetric broadening of the spectral line in the polarization is
explained to be the result of the ``shake-up'' of spin-waves upon radiative
recombination of excitonic states. We derive line shapes for the recombination
of excitonic states in the presence of long-range disorder that compare
favourably with the experimental observations. We also discuss the stabilities
and recombination spectra of other (``charged'') initial states of our model.
An additional high-energy line observed in experiment is shown to be consistent
with the recombination of a positively-charged state. The recombination
spectrum of a negatively-charged initial state, predicted by our model but not
observed in the present experiments, is shown to provide a direct measure of
the formation energy of the smallest ``charged spin-texture'' of the
state.Comment: 23 pages, 7 postscript figures included. Revtex with epsf.tex and

Cave deposits as a sedimentary trap for the Marine Isotope Stage 3 environmental record: The case study of Pod Hradem, Czech Republic
Pod Hradem Cave, located in the Moravian Karst, Czech Republic, offers an excellent opportunity for environmental reconstructions of Marine Isotope Stage 3 (MIS 3) in Central Europe due to its detailed sedimentary record dated 50,000 to 28,000 cal BP. Identifying the natural environments of the Middle to Upper Palaeolithic (MUP) transition is necessary to understand the settlement strategies and related behaviour of both Neanderthals and Anatomically Modern Humans, both of whom may have occupied the region at the same time. A multidisciplinary excavation was carried out between 2011 and 2016. Detailed analyses of the sediments, vertebrate microfauna, pollen and charcoal revealed minor but observable fluctuations in climate, with little change in the surrounding vegetation. The Pod Hradem palaeoenvironmental dataset is complex, but generally reflects a predominantly glacial climate with a range of vegetation types and habitats during the Late Pleistocene, followed by the warmer and more humid Holocene. The MUP transition as recorded in Pod Hradem Cave was a glacial environment interrupted by two relatively warmer periods. Central Europe experienced extreme climate fluctuations during MIS3, as recorded from different sedimentary archives, but it seems that the Pod Hradem Cave environment may have acted as a buffer zone, ameliorating those extremes, and providing a suitable refuge for both bears seeking winter hibernation dens and occasionally visiting humans.Thisproject was funded from the SoMoPro programme. Optical application and measurement of torque on microparticles of isotropic nonabsorbing material
We show how it is possible to controllably rotate or align microscopic
particles of isotropic nonabsorbing material in a TEM00 Gaussian beam trap,
with simultaneous measurement of the applied torque using purely optical means.
This is a simple and general method of rotation, requiring only that the
particle is elongated along one direction. Thus, this method can be used to
rotate or align a wide range of naturally occurring particles. The ability to
measure the applied torque enables the use of this method as a quantitative
tool--the rotational equivalent of optical tweezers based force measurement. As
well as being of particular value for the rotation of biological specimens,
this method is also suitable for the development of optically-driven
micromachines.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
COMPUTER SIMULATION AS A TOOL FOR RISK ASSESSMENT OF TERRORIST ATTACKS IN A FOOD PRODUCTION CHAIN
Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) u Godišnjem
The term “terrorist” is related to a person that is performing violent acts with the aim of frightening or causing damage and producing chaos within the system. Because of the possibilities to direct such actions on wide population and easiness of producing panic, food is often one of the most potential targets for terrorist attacks.
In recent years, such incidents are not rare any more, scenarios of theoretical possibilities of terrorist attacks on food chains are not only theoretical, while worry that such scenarios could become real is gaining higher dimension. Intentional spoilage of food can result in significant economic consequences, even when incidents are
of relatively low range, because of the ruining of economic stability that is often the main motivation of an intentional attack targeted at a certain food product, producer, industry branch or even whole country. World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared
unintentional and intentional food spoilages in its Annual Health Report published in 2007 as the biggest threat to health in 21st century. Because of that, WHO is appealing to the member countries’ governments, as well as the other countries, to help food industry as it carries on now primary responsibility for food safety, while
the intentional food spoilage often presents completely new option for them that should be revised. Measures for prevention, together with increased surveillance and facilities for adequate response in cases of intentional or unintentional food spoilage, better tracing and possibilities for food withdrawal, interactive communication
between governmental institutions and food producers, predicted scenarios that should rationalise usage of budget, simplification of defining of priorities in the cases of incidents, as well as coordination between the industry and governments in public communication should be considered as a minimum that each government
should be doing. With this aim, more care has been directed at the safety of producing units, increase of hygiene standards and introduction of preventive approach through the implementation of the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) principles, which is developing preventive measures aimed at prevention of unintentional food spoilage while producing, processing and distribution of food. Despite the fact that HACCP is most often an efficient system, it frequently demands upgrading in the meaning of protection from intentional food spoilages through the terrorist attacks. Prevention from such incidents does not necessarily
require high technology and financial resources. Good opportunity could be found in CARVER+Shock computer program that is accessible and free to use and has been developed by the USA Government. It serves as a tool for determination of priorities and detection of vulnerable points within certain producing unit or other
infrastructure. The program can analyse six characteristics that can be used for assessment of attractiveness of a target for attack: criticality, accessibility, recuperability, vulnerability, effect and recognisability, while it is being performed in five steps: establishing parameters, assembling experts, detailing food supply chain,
assigning scores and applying what has been learned. The listed possibilities make this program an ideal tool for the identifi cation of potentially weak points in a food producing chain related to attackers and agents recognised as potential threats
Study of a Nonlocal Density scheme for electronic--structure calculations
An exchange-correlation energy functional beyond the local density
approximation, based on the exchange-correlation kernel of the homogeneous
electron gas and originally introduced by Kohn and Sham, is considered for
electronic structure calculations of semiconductors and atoms. Calculations are
carried out for diamond, silicon, silicon carbide and gallium arsenide. The
lattice constants and gaps show a small improvement with respect to the LDA
results.
However, the corresponding corrections to the total energy of the isolated
atoms are not large enough to yield a substantial improvement for the cohesive
energy of solids, which remains hence overestimated as in the LDA.Comment: 4 postscript figure
