Automated delineation of roof planes from LIDAR data

    Get PDF
In this paper, we describe an algorithm for roof line delineation from LIDAR data which aims at achieving models of a high level of detail. Roof planes are initially extracted by segmentation based on the local homogeneity of surface normal vectors of a digital surface model (DSM). A case analysis then reveals which of these roof planes intersect and which of them are separated by a step edge. The positions of the step edges are determined precisely by a new algorithm taking into account domain specific information. Finally, all step edges and intersection lines are combined to form consistent polyhedral models. In all phases of this workflow, decision making is based upon statistical reasoning about geometrical relations between neighbouring entities in order to reduce the number of control parameters and to increase the robustness of the method

Automatic Handwritten Signature Verification System for Australian Passports

    Get PDF
We present an automatic handwritten signature verification system to prevent identity fraud by verifying the authenticity of signatures on Australian passports. In this work, fuzzy modeling has been employed for developing a robust recognition system. The knowledge base consists of unique angle features extracted using the box method. These features are fuzzified by an exponential membership function, consisting of two structural parameters which have been devised to track even the minutest variations in a person's signature. The membership functions in turn constitute the weights in the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) model. The optimization of the output of the TS model with respect to the structural parameters yields the solution for the parameters. The efficacy of the proposed system has been tested on a large database of over 1200 signature images obtained from 40 volunteers achieving a recognition rate of more than 99%

Evaluation of a method for fusing LIDAR data and multispectral images for building detection

    Get PDF
In this paper, we describe the evaluation of a method for building detection by the Dempster-Shafer fusion of LIDAR data and multispectral images. For that purpose, ground truth was digitised for two test sites with quite different characteristics. Using these data sets, the heuristic model for the probability mass assignments of the method is validated, and rules for the tuning of the parameters of this model are discussed. Further we evaluate the contributions of the individual cues used in the classification process to the quality of the classification results. Our results show the degree to which the overall correctness of the results can be improved by fusing LIDAR data with multispectral images

2-Axis Electric Off-Road Bucket Seat Bases

    Get PDF
Off-road vehicle bucket seats are currently restricted to a single position relative to the floor of the vehicle. Drivers and riders desire the ability to adjust their seat position to increase comfort and allow for a greater size range of riders to fit safely within the cabin or roll cage. To develop a viable solution, the team has gone through an extensive design process and has constructed a functioning prototype. This Final Design Report encapsulates the entire design process and concludes with recommendations for changes we would make looking both back in review as well as moving forward with further iterations of the product

LCDG4 and DigiSim - Simulation activities at NICADD/NIU

    Get PDF
We present two software packages developed to support detector R&D studies for the International Linear Collider. LCDG4 is a full-detector simulator that provides energy deposits from particles traversing the sensitive volumes of the detector. It has been extensively used within the American ILC community, providing data for algorithm development and detector optimization studies. DigiSim models real-life digitization effects, converting the idealized response into simulated detector readout. It has many useful features to improve the realism in modeling detector response. The main characteristics of these two complementary packages are discussed.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, submitted to LCWS05 conference proceedings. Uses slac_one.rt

Building Detection by Dempster-Shafer Fusion of LIDAR Data and Multispectral Aerial Imagery

    Get PDF
A method for the classification of land cover in urban areas by the fusion of first and last pulse LIDAR data and multi-spectral images is presented. Apart from buildings, the classes "tree", "grass land", and "bare soil" are also distinguished by a classification method based on the theory of Dempster-Shafer for data fusion. Examples are given for a test site in Germany
