Gul- og rødkørsler i Aalborg midtby - Hvem, hvor-når, hvorfor?
Tidligere studier, som har beskæftiget sig med registrering af gul- og rødkørsler, har undersøgt omfanget, hastigheden og tidspunktet for hændelserne med gul- og rødkørsler. Der er dog fortsat behov for mere viden om gul- og rødkørslernes karakteristika fordelt på trafikantgrupper, årsagen til hændelserne, og hvordan de kan reduceres. Denne artikel omhandler en undersøgelse af omfanget af og karakteristika for gul- og rød-kørsler i to kryds i Aalborg. Gul- og rødkørslerne er registreret vha. analyseprogrammet RUBA og en manuel sortering af situationerne ud fra videomateriale for 14 dage i tidsrummet kl. 5-23. I undersøgelsen er det fundet ud af, at gul- og rødkørslerne forekommer i dagtimerne og i starten af den pågældende fase i signal-programmet. Det er oftest personbiler, som foretager gul- og rødkørslerne, men det ses ligeledes, at der også er flere busser og varevogne, som kører over for gult eller rødt. I forhold til andelen er omfanget ikke større blandt personbiler end for de andre trafikantgrupper. Det er ligeledes undersøgt, om mængden af trafik på tværretningen har betydning for antallet af gul- og rødkørsler, hvilket det ikke umiddelbart tyder på. På bag-grund af uheldsbilledet for uheld i Aalborg og Nørresundby, hvor den ene part har kørt over for gult eller rødt signal, samt ud fra egne observationer, er der et fåtal af kørslerne, som har haft sikkerhedsmæssig betydning for involverede trafikanter. Desuden er der mange årsager til, at gul- og rødkørslerne sker, og det er ikke til at sige noget entydigt om disse, og der kan også være flere medvirkende årsager, eksempelvis uopmærksom-hed og forvirring over betydningen af gult signal. 
Design of a graphical and interactive interface for facilitating access to drug contraindications, cautions for use, interactions and adverse effects
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Drug iatrogeny is important but could be decreased if contraindications, cautions for use, drug interactions and adverse effects of drugs described in drug monographs were taken into account. However, the physician's time is limited during consultations, and this information is often not consulted. We describe here the design of "Mister VCM", a graphical interface based on the VCM graphical language, facilitating access to drug monographs. We also provide an assessment of the usability of this interface.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The "Mister VCM" interface was designed by dividing the screen into two parts: a graphical interactive one including VCM icons and synthetizing drug properties, a textual one presenting on demand drug monograph excerpts. The interface was evaluated over 11 volunteer general practitioners, trained in the use of "Mister VCM". They were asked to answer clinical questions related to fictitious randomly generated drug monographs, using a textual interface or "Mister VCM". When answering the questions, correctness of the responses and response time were recorded.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>"Mister VCM" is an interactive interface that displays VCM icons organized around an anatomical diagram of the human body with additional mental, etiological and physiological areas. Textual excerpts of the drug monograph can be displayed by clicking on the VCM icons. The interface can explicitly represent information implicit in the drug monograph, such as the absence of a given contraindication. Physicians made fewer errors with "Mister VCM" than with text (factor of 1.7; <it>p </it>= 0.034) and responded to questions 2.2 times faster (<it>p </it>< 0.001). The time gain with "Mister VCM" was greater for long monographs and questions with implicit replies.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>"Mister VCM" seems to be a promising interface for accessing drug monographs. Similar interfaces could be developed for other medical domains, such as electronic patient records.</p
Usability Inspection in Model-Driven Web Development: Empirical Validation in WebML
There is a lack of empirically validated usability evaluation methods that can be applied to models in model-driven Web development. Evaluation of these models allows an early detection of usability problems perceived by the end-user. This motivated us to propose WUEP, a usability inspection method which can be integrated into different model-driven Web development processes. We previously demonstrated how WUEP can effectively be used when following the Object-Oriented Hypermedia method. In order to provide evidences about WUEP’s generalizability, this paper presents the operationalization and empirical validation of WUEP into another well-known method: WebML. The effectiveness, efficiency, perceived ease of use, and satisfaction of WUEP were evaluated in comparison to Heuristic Evaluation (HE) from the viewpoint of novice inspectors. The results show that WUEP was more effective and efficient than HE when detecting usability problems on models. Wellbeing at Work: Four Perspectives on What User Experiences with Artifacts May Contribute
Part 2: User Experiences and Wellbeing at Work (UX@Work)International audienceMost work involves the use of artifacts; thus, user experience (UX) is a factor in how most employees experience their work. This study revisits the tool, media, dialogue-partner, and system perspectives on artifact use to explore how UX may contribute to wellbeing at work. It is found that artifacts foster positive UX when they lend the user expressive power (tool), are transparent (media) or perceptive (dialogue partner).They foster negative UX when they break the user’s task focus or make the user a mere system component. These findings are discussed and refined by elaborating the classic concepts of ready to hand and present at hand
Classification of Polarimetric SAR Data Using Dictionary Learning
End-user development (EUD) research has yielded a variety of novel environments and techniques, often accompanied by lab-based usability studies that test their effectiveness in the completion of representative real-world tasks. While lab studies play an important role in resolving frustrations and demonstrating the potential of novel tools, they are insufficient to accurately determine the acceptance of a technology in its intended context of use, which is highly dependent on the diverse and dynamic requirements of its users, as we show here. As such, usability in the lab is unlikely to represent usability in the field. To demonstrate this, we first describe the results of a think-aloud usability study of our EUD tool “Jeeves”, followed by two case studies where Jeeves was used by psychologists in their work practices. Common issues in the artificial setting were seldom encountered in the real context of use, which instead unearthed new usability issues through unanticipated user needs. We conclude with considerations for usability evaluation of EUD tools that enable development of software for other users, including planning for collaborative activities, supporting developers to evaluate their own tools, and incorporating longitudinal methods of evaluation.Postprin
Exploring Large Digital Library Collections Using a Map-Based Visualisation
In this paper we describe a novel approach for exploring large document collections using a map-based visualisation. We use hierarchically structured semantic concepts that are attached to the documents to create a visualisation of the semantic space that resembles a Google Map. The approach is novel in that we exploit the hierarchical structure to enable the approach to scale to large document collections and to create a map where the higher levels of spatial abstraction have semantic meaning. An informal evaluation is carried out to gather subjective feedback from users. Overall results are positive with users finding the visualisation enticing and easy to use
A bibliometric study of human–computer interaction research activity in the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries
Human–computer interaction (HCI) has become an important area for designers and developers worldwide, and research activities set in national cultural contexts addressing local challenges are often needed in industry and academia. This study explored HCI research in the Nordic-Baltic countries using bibliometric methods. The results show that the activity varies greatly across the region with activities dominated by Finland, Sweden, and Denmark, even when adjusting for differences in population size and GDP. Research output variations were larger for the top-tier conferences compared to entry-tier conferences and journals. Locally hosted conferences were associated with local increases in research activity. HCI research longevity appears to be an indicator of research maturity and quantity. HCI researchers typically collaborated either with colleagues within the same institution or with researchers from countries outside the Nordic-Baltic region such as US and the UK. There was less collaboration between national and Nordic-Baltic partners. Collaboration appeared especially prevalent for top-tier conference papers. Top-tier conference papers were also more frequently cited than regional-tier and entry-tier conferences, yet journal articles were cited the most. One implication of this study is that the HCI research activity gaps across the Nordic-Baltic countries should be narrowed by increasing the activity in countries with low research outputs. To achieve this, first-time authors could receive guidance through collaborations with experienced authors in the same institution or other labs around the world. More conferences could also be hosted locally. Furthermore, journals may be more effective than conferences if the goal is to accumulate citations.publishedVersio
Designing for Online Collaborative Consumption: A Study of Sociotechnical Gaps and Social Capital
This study attempts to investigate sociotechnical gaps in online collaborative consumption (OCC) to improve user experience andprovide better design requirements. A new approach is proposed to evaluate usability and sociability of the OCC communities. The formation of social capital within OCC will also be studied to gain insights into design requirements.
