    Multi-channel Si-liquid crystal filter with fine tuning capability of individual channels for compensation of fabrication tolerances.

Available on open access from Springer via the DOI in this record.In this study, a technique for the optimization of the optical characteristics of multi-channel filters after fabrication is proposed. The multi-channel filter under consideration is based on a Si photonic crystal (PhC), tunable liquid crystal and opto-fluidic technologies. By filling air grooves in the one-dimensional, Si-Air PhC with a nematic liquid crystal, an efficiently coupled multi-channel filter can be realised in which a wide stop band is used for channel separation over a wide frequency range. By selectively tuning the refractive index in various coupled cavities, continuous individual tuning of the central channel (or edge channels) up to 25% of the total channel spacing is demonstrated. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the electro-optical solution for the compensation of fabrication tolerances in an integrated platform.This work has been supported by the ICGEE Programme (Ireland) and NAP-368 (Science Foundation Ireland)

    Objectives. Herbal hypoglycemic drugs complement the conventional approach to the treatment of type-2 diabetes based on the use of synthetic prescription drugs. However, their scientifically based application and standardization are limited due to inadequate and often outdated information on their chemical composition. Accordingly, we have developed a hypoglycemic collection (HGΠ‘) consisting of common bean pods (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), bilberry shoots (Vaccinium myrtillus L.), galega herb (Gallega officinalis L.), common knotgrass herb (Polygonum aviculare L.), burdock roots (Arctium lappa L.), and cinnamon rose hips (Rosa cinnamomea L.). According to a number of researchers, the antidiabetic properties of these herbs are largely due to the presence of polyphenolic compounds, especially flavonoids. The aim of this study was to determine the profile of flavonoids in the HGΠ‘ and in its total dry extract (TDE).Methods. The study was performed by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array and mass spectrometric detection.Results. Nine individual flavonol glycosidesβ€”derivatives of myricetin, quercetin, kaempferol and kaempferideβ€”were identified in the HGC and the TDE. The main flavonol glycosides in the studied objects were robinin and kaempferol-3-glucuronide, the contents of which in the HGC were 2.09 and 2.22 mg/g, in the TDE 4.85 and 3.84 mg/g, respectively. The other flavonol glycosides were determined in the HGC and its TDE at significantly lower concentrations.Conclusions.     Adverse reactions of high-osmolar and low-osmolar radiographic contrast media in clinical practice

    Introduction. Adverse drug reactions (ADR) to administration of radiographic contrast media (RCM) are observed in 10–20 % of patients. Individual tolerability of drugs is affected by RCM properties (ionicity, osmolarity). Aim. Evaluation of ADR in patients during diagnostic studies using high- and low-osmolar RCM. Methods. Analysis of 52 reports of adverse reactions to RCM registered in medical organizations of Voronezh region in 2014–2021 was performed. Group 1 included 21 patients with ADR to high-osmolar RCM (sodium amidotrizoate, yoxitalamic acid), group 2–31 patients with ADR to low-osmolar drugs (yogexol, yopromide, yopamidol, yoversol). Results. Age of patients is 6–82 years, median 48.5 years, children β€” 8 persons (15.4 %), women β€” 31 patients (59.6 %), serious reactions β€” 28 (53.8 %). Since 2017 there has been an increase in the number of ADRs with constant frequency of serious reactions. In 2020–2021 ADRs to low-osmolar drugs were mainly registered. Life-threatening conditions (anaphylactic shock, arterial hypotension, arrhythmia) were observed in 70.2 % of group 2, in 28.6 % of group 1 (p=0.007). One patient with initial renal dysfunction and comorbid pathology was reported to develop nephrotoxicity to yogexol. Pharmacological correction was performed in 92.3 % of cases. In 57.7 % of the patients ADR ended in recovery, in the Β other cases β€” state improvement. Conclusion. Side effects of high-osmolar and low-osmolar RCM mainly had form of hyperergic reactions of immediate type and were reversible. High frequency of serious reactions to lowosmolar RCM against an increase in their use requires a more careful selection of patients for X-ray contrast studies

    A study of a complex of bioactive compounds in the fruits of promising blue honeysuckle (<i>Lonicera caerulea</i> L.) cultivars

    Background. Blue honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea L.) is a valuable source of bioactive compounds (BAC) of polyphenolic nature and rare for horticultural berries iridoids, which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and other properties and are widely used in the food, medical and cosmetic industries.Materials and methods. The berries of 20 released honeysuckle cultivars of Russian, Canadian and U.S. origin, reproduced at the I.V. Michurin Federal Science Center in Tambov Province, were studied for the content of the main BAC groups using modern methods (spectrophotometry, HPLC-UV, HPLC-RID, and HPLC-DAD-MS).Results and discussion. The main BAC groups (the content and profile of anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, flavonols and flavones, hydroxycinnamic acids (HCA), iridoids, and organic acids) as well as mono- and disaccharides were studied in detail. A comparative study of the biological value of domestic and foreign honeysuckle cultivars was carried out.Conclusions. The study resulted in identifying the most promising cultivars of honeysuckle according to the content of the main BAC groups

    Objective: to evaluate clinical-economic feasibility and impact of follitropin alfa on the state healthcare budget of the Russian Federation in the population of women with diagnosed infertility and poor ovarian response, who undergo treatment with assisted reproductive technologies (ART).Material and methods. A cost minimization analysis to evaluate clinical-economic feasibility of follitropin alfa in women with infertility and poor ovarian response who underwent ART was performed. The model of the budget impact analysis included the costs required for the ovarian stimulation of patients distributed by various variants of their management. The current practice involved the application only of fixed dose combinations (FDC) of follitropin alfa + lutropin alfa. The expected practice suggested a change in the approach by shifting 25% of patients with poor ovarian response from FDC of follitropin alfa + lutropin alfa to follitropin alfa. A time horizon of modeling was 1 year.Results. The cost minimization analysis demonstrated that the application of drug with international nonproprietary name follitropin alfa is characterized by the cost cut of 12,020 rubles (–21.56%) per patient compared with FDΠ‘ of follitropin alpha + lutropin alpha. The results of budget impact analysis showed that a shift of 25% of population from FDC of follitropin alfa + lutropin alfa to follitropin alfa could cut direct medical costs by 7.96 million rubles per year (–5.39%).Conclusion.     The Size Ellect on the Infrared Spectra of Condensed Media Under Conditions of ID, 2D and 3D Dielectric Confinement

    A general expression for the dielectric loss spectrum of an absorbing composite medium was obtained from a Maxwell-Garnett general equation. This expression was simplified for the cases of one, two and three dimensional dielectric confinement in both ordered and disordered thin layers, rods (wires) and spheres of absorbing medium which are considered as mesoparticles or mesoscopic molecules. This theoretical approach was verified experimentally using high purity organic liquids with strong absorption bands in the infrared range. Three organic liquids, namely benzene, chloroform and carbon disulphide, were measured in various dielectric confinement configurations using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with a Grazing Angle attachment GATRTM. A significant shift of the resonant absorption band of liquid mesoparticles was observed for various dielectric confinement geometries which is in good agreement with theoretical predictions. Possible applications of this work include investigations of industrial smoke, toxic aerosols and liquid droplets

    Russia has one of the highest rates of cardiovascular disease in the world. The International Project on Cardiovascular Disease in Russia (IPCDR) was set up to understand the reasons for this. A substantial component of this study was the Know Your Heart Study devoted to characterising the nature and causes of cardiovascular disease in Russia by conducting large cross-sectional surveys in two Russian cities Novosibirsk and Arkhangelsk. The study population was 4542 men and women aged 35-69 years recruited from the general population. Fieldwork took place between 2015-18. There were two study components: 1) a baseline interview to collect information on socio-demographic characteristics and cardiovascular risk factors, usually conducted at home, and 2) a comprehensive health check at a primary care clinic which included detailed examination of the cardiovascular system.
