Abstract. Nowadays, back pain has contributed huge percentage to Malaysian drivers during driving. Bad or awkward sitting posture may cause fatigue and musculoskeletal pain to the driver due to long distance driving or maintained for a long time. Therefore, it is essential to do the survey on the impact of these elements for the driver based on our Malaysian road conditions. The objective of this paper is to investigate the relationship between different physical categories (age, height, weight and gender) and psychophysical experience on focusing with the degree of comfort ability drivers on Malaysian road condition. The survey should be conducted in random by taking sample from difference categories of drivers in order to get fair result. The experiment has been conducted to define the effect factors of level comfort during thirty minutes driving on the actual road. The result show, aging is one of the factors have significantly higher absolute discomfort for drivers aging from 43 to 53-54 years old with driving in the descending road. In the other hand it is shows that the discomfort ability of drivers can be influences by the driving experience, weight, height and gender of the drivers. Thus, it can be conclude, Malaysian drivers mostly feel discomfort when driving at the descending road and winding road compare to two others road

A Study on Muscle Fatigue Associated with Awkward Posture Among Workers in Aerospace Industry

Abstract. In aerospace industry, many tasks required manufacturing workers to perform their works in awkward posture. Awkward posture is a practical working posture when joints are not in neutral position such as lifting heavy products, reaching materials, bending forward their back when doing jobs, and pushing or pulling excessive loads because those tasks require a stable position and large degree of freedom. If the workers perform the jobs continuously in awkward posture throughout the working hours, they may be experience muscle fatigue. The objective of this study is to measure the myoelectric level (µV) exerted by the right and left thoracolumbar fascia muscles while workers perform the lay-up process in aerospace industry. The myoelectric level in the muscles was measured using surface Electromyography (sEMG) measurement. Six production workers from aerospace industry participated as subjects. The muscle fatigue of the subjects was measured during beginning until finish of lay-up process. This measuring activity has been doing from Wednesday to Friday. Highest results of myoelectric level for right thoracolumbar fascia is when the workers make the lay-up process for ply seven until ply eleven. Different with the results of myoelectric level for left thoracolumbar fascia which is; three of the workers got highest result when they are making the lay-up process for ply seven until ply eleven, but the other three of the workers got highest result when they are making the lay-up process for ply twelve. Nevertheless, after averaging both of the results, a mean result for each worker shows the highest myoelectric level is when the workers make the lay-up process for ply seven until ply eleven. According to the mean, a percentage of worse tasks are projected. Based on this study, the authors concluded that muscle fatigue of the lay-up workers in aerospace industry was influenced by the work load, work activity and duration of awkward posture

Stitching algorithms for biological specimen images

Abstract: In this paper, we address the problem of combining multiple overlapping image sections of biological specimens to obtain a single image containing the entire specimen. This is useful in the digitisation of a large number of biological specimens stored in museum collections and laboratories. In the case of many large specimens, it means that the specimen must be captured in overlapping sections instead of a single image. In this research, we have compared the performance of several known algorithms for this problem. In addition, we have developed several new algorithms based on matching the geometry (width, slope, and curvature) of the specimens at the boundaries. Finally, we compare the performance of a bagging approach that combines the results from multiple stitching algorithms. Our detailed evaluation shows that brightness-based and curvature-based approaches produce the best matches for the images in this domain

Health systems have been quickly adopting telemedicine throughout the United States, especially since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there are limited data on whether adding pharmacist-led home blood pressure (BP) telemonitoring to office-based usual care improves BP. We searched PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase for randomized controlled trials from January 2000 until April 2022, comparing studies on pharmacist-led home BP telemonitoring with usual care. Six randomized controlled trials, including 1,550 participants, satisfied the inclusion criteria. There were 774 participants in the pharmacist-led telemonitoring group and 776 in the usual care group. The addition of pharmacist-led telemonitoring to usual care was associated with a significant decrease in systolic BP (mean difference -8.09, 95% confidence interval -11.15 to -5.04, p \u3c0.001,

Recurrence and higher ergodic properties for quenched random Lorentz tubes in dimension bigger than two

We consider the billiard dynamics in a non-compact set of R^d that is constructed as a bi-infinite chain of translated copies of the same d-dimensional polytope. A random configuration of semi-dispersing scatterers is placed in each copy. The ensemble of dynamical systems thus defined, one for each global realization of the scatterers, is called `quenched random Lorentz tube'. Under some fairly general conditions, we prove that every system in the ensemble is hyperbolic and almost every system is recurrent, ergodic, and enjoys some higher chaotic properties.Comment: Final version for J. Coexistence of Magnetic Order and Two-dimensional Superconductivity at LaAlO3_3/SrTiO3_3 Interfaces

    Get PDF
A two dimensional electronic system with novel electronic properties forms at the interface between the insulators LaAlO3_3 and SrTiO3_3. Samples fabricated until now have been found to be either magnetic or superconducting, depending on growth conditions. We combine transport measurements with high-resolution magnetic torque magnetometry and report here evidence of magnetic ordering of the two-dimensional electron liquid at the interface. The magnetic ordering exists from well below the superconducting transition to up to 200 K, and is characterized by an in-plane magnetic moment. Our results suggest that there is either phase separation or coexistence between magnetic and superconducting states. The coexistence scenario would point to an unconventional superconducting phase in the ground state.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

Abolishing spontaneous epileptiform activity in human brain tissue through AMPA receptor inhibition

Objective: The amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor (AMPAR) is increasingly recognized as a therapeutic target in drug-refractory pediatric epilepsy. Perampanel (PER) is a non-competitive AMPAR antagonist, and pre-clinical studies have shown the AMPAR-mediated anticonvulsant effects of decanoic acid (DEC), a major medium-chain fatty acid provided in the medium-chain triglyceride ketogenic diet. Methods: Using brain tissue resected from children with intractable epilepsy, we recorded the effects of PER and DEC in vitro. Results: We found resected pediatric epilepsy tissue exhibits spontaneous epileptic activity in vitro, and showed that DEC and PER inhibit this epileptiform activity in local field potential recordings as well as excitatory synaptic transmission. Interpretation: This study confirms AMPAR antagonists inhibit epileptiform discharges in brain tissue resected in a wide range of pediatric epilepsies
