    Effect of Visual Motor Coordination with Body Awareness Training on Balance, Coordination and Intensity of Tremor in patients with Cerebellar Ataxia

    This study is to find out the effectiveness of visual motor coordination and body awareness training on balance, coordination and intensity of tremor in patients with cerebellar ataxia. Based on the selection criteria 15 subjects were selected. They were assigned into a single group, All 15 subjects were involved for pre-test assessment for balance, coordination and intensity of tremor using the Berg balance scale, Nine hole peg test and Fahn’s tremor rating scale. The 8 weeks treatment program was given for 5 days per week, 60 minutes per session. where each session consists of 5 mins of warm-up, followed by physiotherapy intervention including Proximal stability training, Balance training, Functional movement training using the principles of Visual Motor Coordination and Body Awareness Training, after the 8 weeks of the treatment program the post-test assessment for the Balance, Coordination and Intensity of Tremor was done using the outcome measures. The results were analyzed using student‘t’ test, that showed a significant improvement. Hence it can be concluded that the visual motor coordination with body awareness training is effective in patients with cerebellar ataxia

    Private education is the education provided to pupils by private educational intuitions. They are non-government aided intuitions and are fully funded by the private sector. Private colleges fall under one of the categories of private education, the others being - private universities, private kindergartens and private schools. The establishment, management and operation of private educational institutions in Malaysia are governed by the following Acts: • Education Act 1996 • Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 • The National Council on Higher Education Act 1996 • The National Accreditation Board Act 1996 Private education in Malaysia started in 1950s, mainly as a gateway for students who cannot enter Government schools to obtain their basic certificates. Only in 1970s was there a shift of roles and functions of private education system, where more emphasis was placed on pre-university courses. The 1980s saw another significant change, whereby private colleges provided tertiary education, particularly, in conducting courses leading to foreign qualifications at certificate, diploma and professional levels. During this period, private colleges provided an alternative access to university education for those who were unable to gain entry into Government's higher education intuitions. It should be noted that until 1998, no private college was allowed to fully conduct degree courses in Malaysia

    Interfacial contribution to the dielectric response in semiconducting LaBiMn4/3Co2/3O6

    Impedance measurements have been performed on a sintered polycrystalline sample of the perovskite LaBiMn4/3Co2/3O6. Colossal dielectric permittivity often is measured in this class of semiconducting materials as a result of extrinsic factors. Our results show that a large offset in the capacitance, measured on a series of samples with different thickness, is due to the interfacial polarization. This contribution then can be removed from the data, creating a general procedure for dielectric measurements in semiconducting samples.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

    Destabilization of long-wavelength Love and Stoneley waves in slow sliding

    Love waves are dispersive interfacial waves that are a mode of response for anti-plane motions of an elastic layer bonded to an elastic half-space. Similarly, Stoneley waves are interfacial waves in bonded contact of dissimilar elastic half-spaces, when the displacements are in the plane of the solids. It is shown that in slow sliding, long wavelength Love and Stoneley waves are destabilized by friction. Friction is assumed to have a positive instantaneous logarithmic dependence on slip rate and a logarithmic rate weakening behavior at steady-state. Long wavelength instabilities occur generically in sliding with rate- and state-dependent friction, even when an interfacial wave does not exist. For slip at low rates, such instabilities are quasi-static in nature, i.e., the phase velocity is negligibly small in comparison to a shear wave speed. The existence of an interfacial wave in bonded contact permits an instability to propagate with a speed of the order of a shear wave speed even in slow sliding, indicating that the quasi-static approximation is not a valid one in such problems.Comment: Submitted to International Journal of Solids and Structures, added Section 5: Discussio

    Migration that involves the crossing of international borders of sovereign countries is a major issue that affects international relations. Illegal Bangladeshi migration to India is one such issue. Bangladeshi migration to India is a result of many factors – environmental, economic, social, and political—each one acting alone or in combination, causing migration. Factors that cause Bangladeshi migration to India are many. Scholars categorise them broadly into “Push” and “Pull” factors. Bangladesh is a country where millions of people are displaced every year due to natural disasters like floods, cyclones, riverbank erosions, and salinity. Added to it, poor economic conditions in Bangladesh and the resultant economic distress have pushed people to cross over to India. The minority communities of Bangladesh, mainly the Hindus, have migrated to India, faced with communal tension and religious discrimination as a result of the Islamisation of the society and polity of Bangladesh. This paper examines the factors that induce migration at the origin—Bangladesh. It also argues that India’s effort to stop illegal migration will be successful only if there is a perceptible change in the migration inducing factors at the origin

    Dynamic anti-plane sliding of dissimilar anisotropic linear elastic solids

    The stability of steady, dynamic, anti-plane slipping at a planar interface between two dissimilar anisotropic linear elastic solids is studied. The solids are assumed to possess a plane of symmetry normal to the slip direction, so that in-plane displacements and normal stress changes on the slip plane do not occur. Friction at the interface is assumed to follow a rate and state dependent law with velocity-weakening behavior in the steady state. The stability to spatial perturbations of the form exp(ikx_1), where k is the wavenumber and x_1 is the coordinate along the interface is studied. The critical wavenumber magnitude, |k|_cr, above which there is stability and the corresponding phase velocity, c, of the neutrally stable mode are obtained from the stability analysis. Numerical plots showing the dependence of |k|_cr and c on the unperturbed sliding velocity, V_o, are provided for various bi-material combinations of practical interest

    PERFORMANCE STUDY OF MOVING BIOFILM AEROBIC SEQUENCING BATCH REACTOR (MBASBR) FOR THE TREATMENT OF PAPER AND PULP MILL EFFLUENT

    In this study the experiments are conducted to remove the Chemical oxygen demand (COD),Total suspended solids (TSS) and Lignin from paper and pulp mill wastewater using Moving biofilm aerobic sequencing batch reactor (MBASBR) .The laboratory scale reactor of working volume 20 liters used for the study. In addition to the conventional reactor the plastic carrier is used as the moving biomedia for the suspended and attached growth treatment in the reactor. Microbial culture of Phenerochetes chrysosporium and Pseudomonas alcaligens is used for the treatment. These microbes show good attachment with the carrier for the biochemical degradation of the paper and pulp mill wastewater during the treatment process. The average removal efficiencies for COD, TSS and lignin are found to be 96%, 98% and 84 % respectively
