The phenomenology of electric dipole moments in models of scalar leptoquarks
We study the phenomenology of electric dipole moments (EDMs) induced in
various scalar leptoquark models. We consider generic leptoquark couplings to
quarks and leptons and match to Standard Model effective field theory. After
evolving the resulting operators to low energies, we connect to EDM experiments
by using up-to-date hadronic, nuclear, and atomic matrix elements. We show that
current experimental limits set strong constraints on the possible CP-violating
phases in leptoquark models. Depending on the quarks and leptons involved in
the interaction, the existing searches for EDMs of leptons, nucleons, atoms,
and molecules all play a role in constraining the CP-violating couplings. We
discuss the impact of hadronic and nuclear uncertainties as well as the
sensitivities that can be achieved with future EDM experiments. Finally, we
study the impact of EDM constraints on a specific leptoquark model that can
explain the recent -physics anomalies.Comment: Published versio

Learning recursion: Multiple nested and crossed dependencies
Language acquisition in both natural and artificial language learning settings crucially depends on extracting information from sequence input. A shared sequence learning mechanism is thus assumed to underlie both natural and artificial language learning. A growing body of empirical evidence is consistent with this hypothesis. By means of artificial language learning experiments, we may therefore gain more insight in this shared mechanism. In this paper, we review empirical evidence from artificial language learning and computational modelling studies, as well as natural language data, and suggest that there are two key factors that help determine processing complexity in sequence learning, and thus in natural language processing. We propose that the specific ordering of non-adjacent dependencies (i.e., nested or crossed), as well as the number of non-adjacent dependencies to be resolved simultaneously (i.e., two or three) are important factors in gaining more insight into the boundaries of human sequence learning; and thus, also in natural language processing. The implications for theories of linguistic competence are discussed
Misreporting of energy and micronutrient intake estimated by food records and 24 hour recalls, control and adjustment methods in practice
In order to assess nutritional adequacy, valid estimates of nutrient intake are required. One of the main errors in dietary assessment is misreporting. The objective was to review the extent, nature and determinants of misreporting in dietary assessment, how this affects reported intakes of micronutrients and how this is identified and measured, and to identify the best ways of dealing with misreporting when interpreting results. A systematic literature search was conducted for studies of misreporting of dietary intake in adults by 24 hour recalls or by estimated or weighed food records, published up to March 2008. Thirty-seven relevant studies were identified. Possible causes of misreporting were identified. Methods most used to identify misreporting were the Goldberg cut-off (46 % studies) and the doubly labelled water technique (24 % studies). The magnitude of misreporting of energy intake was similar in all three dietary assessment methods. The percentage of under-reporters was about 30 % and energy intake was underestimated by approximately 15 %. Seven papers presented usable data for micronutrient intake. Absolute intakes of Fe, Ca and vitamin C (the three micronutrients addressed in all papers) were on average 30 % lower in low-energy reporters (LER) than that in non-LER and, although results were not consistent, there was a tendency for micronutrient density to be higher in LER. Excluding underreporters or using energy adjustment methods for micronutrient intakes is discussed. Residual method of energy adjustment seems to be a good tool for practice to decrease an influence of misreporting when interpreting results of studies based on food records and 24 hour recall

Market Sampling of Landings of Commercial Fish Species in the Netherlands in 2002
This report contains information on the biological sampling for the market sampling program: which species are sampled, how they were caught, when and where the samples are taken (date and position), how many fish have been measured, how many fish have been aged, etc. The report gives an overview of all the biological sampling activities in 2002 by RIVO on the landings of the commercial important species of herring, mackerel, horse mackerel, blue whiting, greater argentine, sole, plaice, turbot, brill, dab, lemon sole, cod, whiting, Norway lobster and four different species of rays from all ICES areas. This biological sampling took place on landings by both the Dutch fleet as well as foreign fleets landing in the Netherlands. In addition this report contains information on the biological samples collected during research vessel surveys and discard trips both on commercial and non-commercial species
Collider Interplay for Supersymmetry, Higgs and Dark Matter
We discuss the potential impacts on the CMSSM of future LHC runs and possible
electron-positron and higher-energy proton-proton colliders, considering
searches for supersymmetry via MET events, precision electroweak physics, Higgs
measurements and dark matter searches. We validate and present estimates of the
physics reach for exclusion or discovery of supersymmetry via MET searches at
the LHC, which should cover the low-mass regions of the CMSSM parameter space
favoured in a recent global analysis. As we illustrate with a low-mass
benchmark point, a discovery would make possible accurate LHC measurements of
sparticle masses using the MT2 variable, which could be combined with
cross-section and other measurements to constrain the gluino, squark and stop
masses and hence the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters m_0, m_{1/2} and
A_0 of the CMSSM. Slepton measurements at CLIC would enable m_0 and m_{1/2} to
be determined with high precision. If supersymmetry is indeed discovered in the
low-mass region, precision electroweak and Higgs measurements with a future
circular electron-positron collider (FCC-ee, also known as TLEP) combined with
LHC measurements would provide tests of the CMSSM at the loop level. If
supersymmetry is not discovered at the LHC, is likely to lie somewhere along a
focus-point, stop coannihilation strip or direct-channel A/H resonance funnel.
We discuss the prospects for discovering supersymmetry along these strips at a
future circular proton-proton collider such as FCC-hh. Illustrative benchmark
points on these strips indicate that also in this case FCC-ee could provide
tests of the CMSSM at the loop level.Comment: 47 pages, 26 figure
