Spectral gap of the totally asymmetric exclusion process at arbitrary filling
We calculate the spectral gap of the Markov matrix of the totally asymmetric
simple exclusion process (TASEP) on a ring of L sites with N particles. Our
derivation is simple and self-contained and extends a previous calculation that
was valid only for half-filling. We use a special property of the Bethe
equations for TASEP to reformulate them as a one-body problem. Our method is
closely related to the one used to derive exact large deviation functions of
the TASEP
On the Stereochemistry of the Cations in the Doping Block of Superconducting Copper-Oxides
Metal-oxygen complexes containing Cu,- Tl-, Hg-, Bi- and Pb-cations are
electronically active in superconducting copper-oxides by stabilizing single
phases with enhanced , whereas other metal-oxygen complexes deteriorate
copper-oxide superconductivity. Cu, Tl, Hg, Bi, Pb in their actual oxidation
states are closed shell or inert pair ions. Their electronic
configurations have a strong tendency to polarize the oxygen environment. The
closed shell ions with low lying
excitations form linear complexes through hybridization polarizing
the apical oxygens. Comparatively low excitation energies
distinguish from other closed shell

Current Distribution and random matrix ensembles for an integrable asymmetric fragmentation process
We calculate the time-evolution of a discrete-time fragmentation process in
which clusters of particles break up and reassemble and move stochastically
with size-dependent rates. In the continuous-time limit the process turns into
the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (only pieces of size 1 break
off a given cluster). We express the exact solution of master equation for the
process in terms of a determinant which can be derived using the Bethe ansatz.
From this determinant we compute the distribution of the current across an
arbitrary bond which after appropriate scaling is given by the distribution of
the largest eigenvalue of the Gaussian unitary ensemble of random matrices.
This result confirms universality of the scaling form of the current
distribution in the KPZ universality class and suggests that there is a link
between integrable particle systems and random matrix ensembles.Comment: 11 page
Attitudes to smoking cessation and triggers to relapse among Chinese male smokers
BACKGROUND: Smoking is related to many diseases, and the relapse to smoking after cessation in China is noticeable. We examined the attitudes of Chinese male smokers regarding smoking cessation and reasons for relapse. METHODS: We interviewed 201 male smokers in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang province, China who had tried to quit smoking at least once in order to identify reasons for quitting and situations triggering relapse. RESULTS: The most significant reported reasons for quitting included personal health (77.1%), the cost of cigarettes (53.7%), and family pressures to quit (29.9%). The most common factors triggering relapse were social situations (34.3%), feeling negative or down (13.4%) and times of being alone (8.4%). CONCLUSION: Health and family concerns, personal factors, the influence of others and a lack of cessation resources were cited as salient factors concerning smoking cessation among male smokers in this study. Effective smoking control efforts in China will require attention to these influences if China is to curb its current smoking epidemic
The Structure of Operators in Effective Particle-Conserving Models
For many-particle systems defined on lattices we investigate the global
structure of effective Hamiltonians and observables obtained by means of a
suitable basis transformation. We study transformations which lead to effective
Hamiltonians conserving the number of excitations. The same transformation must
be used to obtain effective observables. The analysis of the structure shows
that effective operators give rise to a simple and intuitive perspective on the
initial problem. The systematic calculation of n-particle irreducible
quantities becomes possible constituting a significant progress. Details how to
implement the approach perturbatively for a large class of systems are

Binary reaction decays from 24Mg+12C
Charged particle and gamma decays in 24Mg* are investigated for excitation
energies where quasimolecular resonances appear in 12C+12C collisions. Various
theoretical predictions for the occurence of superdeformed and hyperdeformed
bands associated with resonance structures with low spin are discussed within
the measured 24Mg* excitation energy region. The inverse kinematics reaction
24Mg+12C is studied at E_lab(24Mg) = 130 MeV, an energy which enables the
population of 24Mg states decaying into 12C+12C resonant break-up states.
Exclusive data were collected with the Binary Reaction Spectrometer in
coincidence with EUROBALL IV installed at the VIVITRON Tandem facility at
Strasbourg. Specific structures with large deformation were selectively
populated in binary reactions and their associated gamma decays studied.
Coincident events associated with inelastic and alpha-transfer channels have
been selected by choosing the excitation energy or the entry point via the
two-body Q-values. The analysis of the binary reaction channels is presented
with a particular emphasis on 24Mg-gamma, 20Ne-gamma and 16O-gamma
coincidences. New information (spin and branching ratios) is deduced on
high-energy states in 24Mg and 16O, respectively.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures, 1 tabl
Reaction mechanisms in 24Mg+12C and 32S+24Mg
The occurence of "exotic" shapes in light N=Z alpha-like nuclei is
investigated for 24Mg+12C and 32S+24Mg. Various approaches of superdeformed and
hyperdeformed bands associated with quasimolecular resonant structures with low
spin are presented. For both reactions, exclusive data were collected with the
Binary Reaction Spectrometer in coincidence with EUROBALL IV installed at the
VIVITRON Tandem facility of Strasbourg. Specific structures with large
deformation were selectively populated in binary reactions and their associated
-decays studied. The analysis of the binary and ternary reaction

Isolation and Characterization of Multi-Protein Complexes Enriched in the K-Cl Co-transporter 2 From Brain Plasma Membranes
Kcc2 plays a critical role in determining the efficacy of synaptic inhibition, however, the cellular mechanisms neurons use to regulate its membrane trafficking, stability and activity are ill-defined. To address these issues, we used affinity purification to isolate stable multi-protein complexes of K-Cl Co-transporter 2 (Kcc2) from the plasma membrane of murine forebrain. We resolved these using blue-native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (BN-PAGE) coupled to LC-MS/MS and label-free quantification. Data are available via ProteomeXchange with identifier PXD021368. Purified Kcc2 migrated as distinct molecular species of 300, 600, and 800 kDa following BN-PAGE. In excess of 90% coverage of the soluble N- and C-termini of Kcc2 was obtained. In total we identified 246 proteins significantly associated with Kcc2. The 300 kDa species largely contained Kcc2, which is consistent with a dimeric quaternary structure for this transporter. The 600 and 800 kDa species represented stable multi-protein complexes of Kcc2. We identified a set of novel structural, ion transporting, immune related and signaling protein interactors, that are present at both excitatory and inhibitory synapses, consistent with the proposed localization of Kcc2. These included spectrins, C1qa/b/c and the IP3 receptor. We also identified interactors more directly associated with phosphorylation; Akap5, Akap13, and Lmtk3. Finally, we used LC-MS/MS on the same purified endogenous plasma membrane Kcc2 to detect phosphorylation sites. We detected 11 sites with high confidence, including known and novel sites. Collectively our experiments demonstrate that Kcc2 is associated with components of the neuronal cytoskeleton and signaling molecules that may act to regulate transporter membrane trafficking, stability, and activity
Ovine pedomics : the first study of the ovine foot 16S rRNA-based microbiome
We report the first study of the bacterial microbiome of ovine interdigital skin based on 16S rRNA by pyrosequencing and conventional cloning with Sanger-sequencing. Three flocks were selected, one a flock with no signs of footrot or interdigital dermatitis, a second flock with interdigital dermatitis alone and a third flock with both interdigital dermatitis and footrot. The sheep were classified as having either healthy interdigital skin (H), interdigital dermatitis (ID) or virulent footrot (VFR). The ovine interdigital skin bacterial community varied significantly by flock and clinical condition. The diversity and richness of operational taxonomic units was greater in tissue from sheep with ID than H or VFR affected sheep. Actinobacteria, Bacteriodetes, Firmicutes and Proteobacteria were the most abundant phyla comprising 25 genera. Peptostreptococcus, Corynebacterium and Staphylococcus were associated with H, ID and VFR respectively. Sequences of Dichelobacter nodosus, the causal agent of ovine footrot, were not amplified due to mismatches in the 16S rRNA universal forward primer (27F). A specific real time PCR assay was used to demonstrate the presence of D. nodosus which was detected in all samples including the flock with no signs of ID or VFR. Sheep with ID had significantly higher numbers of D. nodosus (104-109 cells/g tissue) than those with H or VFR feet
