Filament bifurcations in a one-dimensional model of reacting excitable fluid flow
Recently, it has been shown that properties of excitable media stirred by
two-dimensional chaotic flows can be properly studied in a one-dimensional
framework \cite{excitablePRL,excitablePRE}, describing the transverse profile
of the filament-like structures observed in the system. Here, we perform a
bifurcation analysis of this one-dimensional approximation as a function of the
{\it Damk{\"o}hler} number, the ratio between the chemical and the strain
rates. Different branches of stable solutions are calculated, and a Hopf
bifurcation, leading to an oscillating filament, identified.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures; elsart.cls styl
Remarks to Arsovski's proof of Snevily's conjecture
Based on the recent work of Arsovski, we confirm a conjecture of Feng, Sun,
and Xiang, and we give a shortened proof of Snevily's conjecture.Comment: 5 pages, LaTeX2e; v2: revised version incorporating suggestions by

Véletlen fluktuációt tartalmazó nyílt áramlásokban zajló reakciók esetén a reakciótermék eloszlásának fraktáldimenziója megjelenik a reakcióegyenletben. Szálas mikroorganizmusok (gombák és baktériumok) egyes szálainak növekedésére a rugalmas rudak kinematikai elmélete alapján kidolgozott modell a szálak alakjára a valódihoz közel álló alakot adott. A teljes mikroorganizmus telepek növekedésére modellt dolgoztunk ki, amely a telep alakjának időben változó fraktáldimenzióján alapult. | In chemical reactions taking place in open flows with random fluctuations the fractal dimension of the distribution of the reaction product appears in the chemical rate equation. In closed flows, the effective dimension of the distribution of the reaction product changes with time, and the equation for its time-dependence couples to that of the quantity of the product. Fluid mixing enhances the coexistence of competitors that are in cyclic competition. Non-cyclic competitors, if their inertia and size is not negligible, populate slightly different filamentary structures, which enhances coexistence. Symbolic dynamics based labeling determines unambiguously the stability, symmetry and nodal properties of the equilibrium states of elastic chains. A boundary value problem is spatially chaotic if its number of solutions increases exponentially with the size of its domain. A model, based on the kinematic theory of elastic rods, for the growth of filamentary micro-organisms (fungi and bacterias) gave realistic shapes for the filaments. A model for the growth of the whole colony of the micro-organism was developed, that was based on the time-dependent fractality of the colony
Block partitions: an extended view
Given a sequence , a block of is a
subsequence . The size of a block is the sum
of its elements. It is proved in [1] that for each positive integer , there
is a partition of into blocks with for every . In this paper, we consider a generalization of the problem

Point Configurations in d -Space without Large Subsetsin Convex Position
In this paper we give a lower bound for the Erd\H os-Szekeres number in higher dimensions. Namely, in two different ways we construct, for every , a configuration of points in general position in containing at most points in convex position. (Points in are in convex position if none of them lies in the convex hull of the others.
