Slowing down Alzheimer through physical exercise

Trabajo fin de grado en EnfermeríaObjetivo: analizar las evidencias sobre la eficacia de la práctica regular de ejercicio físico para retrasar la progresión de la enfermedad del Alzheimer. Método: revisión narrativa a través de la búsqueda bibliográfica en diferentes bases de datos como la Biblioteca Virtual Cochrane, PubMed, Cinhal, Cuiden y Lilacs. Se aplicaron criterios de inclusión y exclusión para perfeccionar la búsqueda y la selección de los artículos. Resultados: se analizaron 20 artículos que destacaban que una terapia basada en ejercicio físico afecta a distintos aspectos de la vida del paciente, ya sea a nivel físico, mental o social. Se han comprobado los efectos beneficiosos que tiene la práctica de ejercicio aeróbico combinado con ejercicios de fuerza, equilibrio y movilidad, en la cognición global del paciente y síntomas psíquicos, en su habilidad para desempeñar las actividades cotidianas y en disminuir la carga del cuidador, todo ello relacionado a su vez con respetar las sesiones programadas estimulando la motivación de los pacientes. Conclusiones: dada la alta incidencia de la enfermedad del Alzheimer sería conveniente concienciar a los profesionales de la salud, en especial a las enfermeras, para introducir la práctica del ejercicio físico en el cuidado de estos pacientes.Objective: analyze evidence about the efficacy of regular physical exercise to slower decline in Alzheimer’s disease. Method: narrative review by a bibliographic research in different databases like Cochrane Library, PubMed, Cinhal, Cuiden and Lilacs. It applies inclusion and exclusion standards to improve the research and selection of articles. Results: 20 articles were selected for its analysis; they conclude a therapy based in physical exercise affects different areas of patient’s life, in physical, mental and social levels. It has proved the beneficial effects that exercise has. Aerobic exercise, strength, balance and mobility exercises have an impact on global cognition, psychical symptoms; ability to perform activities in daily basis activities and to decrease care burden. Everything is related to respect programmed sessions to stimulate the patient`s motivation. Conclusion: due to high influence of Alzheimer’s disease, it would be advisable to raise awareness within the health professionals, especially nurses, in order to implement an exercise program for these patients

Geysers in the Lagoon: New Herbig-Haro objects in M 8

Aims. We search for direct evidence of ongoing star formation by accretion in the Lagoon Nebula (M 8), using optical wide-field narrow-band imaging obtained at La Silla Observatory. Methods. We examine [S II] and Hα images for line-emission features that could be interpreted as signatures of outflow activity of the exciting sources. Results. We discover five new Herbig-Haro objects, study in detail their morphology and attempt to identify their potential driving sources among the population of T Tauri stars and embedded sources in the surroundings. Conclusions. An Exploration of Art Therapy Services Offered to University Community Members During Transition

This qualitative case study examined art therapy services offered by Loyola Marymount University\u27s Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic to university students and staff amidst the transition back to in-person services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study was to explore the efficacy of interventions and clinical themes that emerged as a result of the services offered to members of the university as they transitioned back to in-person services. Two focus groups were held to gather data from participants and facilitators of the workshops. The analysis of this data led researchers to find that the art therapy services resulted in decreased stress and created a sense of community support amongst both participants and facilitators. In addition, the researchers found other emergent clinical themes that were illuminated in the data collected from both focus groups. The findings from this study are supported by literature that aligns with the outcomes from the workshops: being effective in managing stress and building community support

Pre-main-sequence stars in the Lagoon Nebula (M8)

We report the discovery of new pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars in the Lagoon Nebula (M8) at a distance of 1.25 kpc, based on intermediate-resolution spectra obtained with the Boiler & Chivens spectrograph at the 6.5-m Magellan I Telescope (Las Campanas Observatory, Chile). According to the spectral types, the presence of emission lines and the lithium λ 6708 absorption line, we are able to identify 27 classical T Tauri stars, seven weak-lined T Tauri stars and three PMS emission objects with spectral type G, which we include in a separate stellar class denominated 'PMS Fe/Ge class'. Using near-infrared photometry either from the Two-Micron All-Sky Survey or from our own previous work, we derive effective temperatures and luminosities for these stars and locate them in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, in order to estimate their masses and ages. We find that almost all of our sample stars are younger than 3 × 106 yr and span over a range of masses between 0.8 and 2.5 M⊙. A cross-correlation between our spectroscopic data and the X-ray sources detected with the Chandra ACIS instrument is also presented.Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísica

A survey of N IV and O IV features near 3400 Å in O2-O5 spectra

We have conducted a survey of little-known N IV and O IV multiplets near 3400 Å in an extensive sample of well-classified, very early O-type spectra. The initial motivation was to search for additional useful classification criteria for these types, but an unexpected result is the high sensitivity of these features to evolutionary CNO processing. We have found a useful discriminant between O2 and later types in the relative strengths of the O IV multiplets, one of which is subject to selective emission in the hottest spectra; the overall strengths of these lines also decrease between spectral types O4 and O5. More remarkable, however, are the variations in the N/O ratios among both individual stars and clusters. For instance, several O4 If + spectra have very large ratios, while main-sequence stars in the Carina Nebula generally have smaller values than others of the same spectral types in other regions. These effects correspond to different degrees of mixing of processed material as a function of evolutionary age and initial rotational velocities; the second effect provides significant further evidence that very massive stars mix while still on the main sequence. A CNO Dichotomy among O2 Giant Spectra in the Magellanic Clouds

From a survey of the 3400 Å region in the earliest O-type spectra, we have found that two of the four O2 giants observed in the Large Magellanic Cloud have O IV lines there that are stronger than the N IV lines, while the other two have the opposite. A Small Magellanic Cloud counterpart also has N IV stronger than O IV. Inspection of the blue spectra of these stars shows that the former pair have weaker N lines in all ionization states (III, IV, and V) present as well as lines of C IV λ4658, while the latter three have stronger N lines and greater He/H. Space ultraviolet observations of two of the N-strong stars show N V wind profiles substantially stronger than those of C IV, while in the N-weak stars the C IV features are equal to or stronger than the N V. The N-strong stars are now reclassified as ON2 III(f*), newly defining that category. These characteristics strongly suggest a larger fraction of processed material in the atmospheres of the ON2 stars, which we confirm by modeling the optical spectra. In the context of current models, it is in turn implied that the ON2 stars are in a more advanced evolutionary state than the others, and/or that they had higher initial rotational velocities. The recent formulation of the effects of rotation on massive stellar evolution introduces an additional fundamental parameter, which the CNO abundances are in principle able to constrain. We present some illustrative comparisons with current Geneva evolutionary models for rotating massive stars. It is possible that these very hot, nitrogen-rich objects are products of homogeneous evolution. Our results will provide motivation for further physical modeling of the atmospheres and evolutionary histories of the most massive hot stars.Fil: Walborn, Nolan Revere. La resistencia a las actuaciones de la administración tributaria como conducta infractora

La infracción tributaria por resistencia, obstrucción, excusa o negativa a las actuaciones de la Administración tributaria, aunque objeto de pocas investigaciones, es de frecuente aparición en los procesos de aplicación de los tributos, especialmente en los de inspección y comprobación. Realizando un análisis detallado de la misma y dedicando especial atención a la identificación del bien jurídico protegido, así como a la delimitación de la conducta infractora, se destacan en el presente trabajo las más importantes controversias que suscita su aplicación.La infracció tributària per resistència, obstrucció, excusa o negativa a les actuacions de l'Administració tributària, tot i que objecte de poques investigacions, és de freqüent aparició en els processos d'aplicació dels tributs, especialment en els d'inspecció i comprovació. Realitzant un anàlisi detallat de la mateixa i dedicant especial atenció a la identificació del bé jurídic protegit, així com a la delimitació de la conducta infractora, es destaquen en aquest treball les més importants controvèrsies que suscita la seva aplicació.Resistance, obstruction, excuse or refusal to Spanish Tax Authorities' proceedings is a tax offence that, although not discussed in many studies, frequently appears in tax application processes, especially in those of inspection.
