A theory of local convexity for a second order differential equation (SODE) on a Lie algebroid is developed. The particular case when the SODE is homogeneous quadratic is extensively discussed.Comment: 25 pages.

Particular emphasis is placed on the compositional variations along the litostratigraphic section. Bulk rock XRD analysis shows a homogeneous composition dominated by quartz, phyllosilicates and hematite. Minor components (<5%) include potassium feldspar, dolomite and calcite. The clay minerals assemblage is formed by illite ± kaolin ± chlorite ± mixed-layer illite-smectite ± mixed-layer chlorite-smectite and reveals a sedimentary distribution pattern. The study of the lithological section allows the identification and valuation of changes in the mineralogical characteristics of the raw material. Results provide evidence for the importance of mineralogical analysis in the control of raw materials and hence their use in industrial processes

    A nonholonomic Newmark method

Using the nonholonomic exponential map, we obtain a new version of Newmark-type methods for nonholonomic systems (see also Jay and Negrut(2009) for a different extension). We give numerical examples including a test problem where the structure of reversible integrability responsible for good energy behaviour as described in Modin and Verdier (2020) is lost. We observe that the composition of two Newmark methods is able to produce good energy behaviour on this test problem.Fil: Anahory Simoes, Alexandre. Evaluation of NAB2-STAT6 Fusion Variants and Other Molecular Alterations as Prognostic Biomarkers in a Case Series of 83 Solitary Fibrous Tumors

Risk stratification of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) patients based on clinicopathological features has limited efficacy, especially in predicting late relapse or metastasis. The hallmark alteration of SFT is the gene fusion NAB2-STAT6, whose prognostic value remains controversial. As biological knowledge of this entity has increased in recent years, new molecular alterations have emerged that could be helpful to refine current risk models. Here, we evaluated NAB2-STAT6 fusion variants and other molecular alterations in a series of 83 SFTs that are enriched in progressing cases. Gene fusion variants were identified by targeted RNA-seq in the whole series, whereas TERT promoter (pTERT) mutations were inspected by Sanger sequencing in a subset of 18 cases. Immunohistochemical assays were performed to assess BCOR and NTRK expression as well as P53 mutation status in 45, 44, and 44 cases, respectively. While confirming the associations of gene fusion variants with clinicopathological parameters, our results do not prove their prognostic value. Pan-TRK immunoexpresion correlated with recurrence/progression, P53 staining associated with higher mitotic counts, and pTERT mutations were enriched in cases with fatal outcome. An intriguing correlation was found for BCOR protein expression with gene fusion variants, size, and tumor location

Role of Beta2 adrenergic receptor polymorphism (rs1042714) on body weight and glucose metabolism response to a meal-replacement hypocaloric diet

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaThe Beta2-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) is involved in energy balance regulation. The objective of our study was to evaluate the role of rs1042714 genetic variant of ADRB2 gene on weight loss, body composition and metabolic changes secondary to partial Meal replacement (pMR) hypocaloric diet in women with obesity. G allele of rs rs1042714 predicts the magnitude of weight loss resulting from a pMR diet. These adiposity improvements produce a better improvement of insulin resistance and percentage of impaired glucose metabolism in G allele carriers

Assessment of methods for land surface temperature retrieval from Landsat-5 TM images applicable to multiscale tree-grass ecosystem modeling

Land Surface Temperature (LST) is one of the key inputs for Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere transfer modeling in terrestrial ecosystems. In the frame of BIOSPEC (Linking spectral information at different spatial scales with biophysical parameters of Mediterranean vegetation in the context of global change) and FLUXPEC (Monitoring changes in water and carbon fluxes from remote and proximal sensing in Mediterranean “dehesa” ecosystem) projects LST retrieved from Landsat data is required to integrate ground-based observations of energy, water, and carbon fluxes with multi-scale remotely-sensed data and assess water and carbon balance in ecologically fragile heterogeneous ecosystem of Mediterranean wooded grassland (dehesa). Thus, three methods based on the Radiative Transfer Equation were used to extract LST from a series of 2009–2011 Landsat-5 TM images to assess the applicability for temperature input generation to a Landsat-MODIS LST integration. When compared to surface temperatures simulated using MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission 5 (MODTRAN 5) with atmospheric profiles inputs (LSTref), values from Single-Channel (SC) algorithm are the closest (root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) = 0.50 °C); procedure based on the online Radiative Transfer Equation Atmospheric Correction Parameters Calculator (RTE-ACPC) shows RMSD = 0.85 °C; Mono-Window algorithm (MW) presents the highest RMSD (2.34 °C) with systematical LST underestimation (bias = 1.81 °C). Differences between Landsat-retrieved LST and MODIS LST are in the range of 2 to 4 °C and can be explained mainly by differences in observation geometry, emissivity, and time mismatch between Landsat and MODIS overpasses. There is a seasonal bias in Landsat-MODIS LST differences due to greater variations in surface emissivity and thermal contrasts between landcover components
