Analysis of Charged-Current Neutrino-Nucleus Cross Section

    Get PDF
A study of the cross section for chaged-current quasielastic (CCQE) scattering on nuclei has been performed using a description of nuclear dynamics based on the Relativistic Fermi Gas model (RFG). The role played by different parametrizations for the weak nucleon form factors is analyzed taking into account the relevance of the axial mass value. The results obtained are compared with the recent data for neutrinos measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration.Dirección General de Investigación (DGI). Oral squamous cell carcinoma of tongue: Histological risk assessment. A pilot study

    Get PDF
Background: More than 90% of malignant tumors diagnosed in the oral cavity are Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas (OSCC) whose preferred location is the tongue. Classically, this disease has affected men preferentially, although recent studies suggest that trends are changing and the proportion of women with OSCC is increasing. In addition, the prevalence of oral cancer is also determined by some risk factors as alcohol consumption and tobacco. Currently, the Tumor, Node, Metastasis (TNM) classification is employed to defined tumor stage and based on this guide specific treatments are established. However, 5-year-survival does not exceed 50% of cases. The objective of this study is to determine whether a histological risk pattern indicative of higher recurrence might be present in T1-T2 tumors located in the anterior two thirds of the tongue. Material and Methods: Samples from 26 patients with OSCC were analyzed and histological risk pattern of recurrent and non-recurrent tumors were compared. We have analyzed histological variables described in Anneroth and Brandwein-Gensler classifications. Additionally, we have also examined both clinical variables such as age, sex or comorbidities, as well as habits such as tobacco or alcohol consumption. Results: We found that sex (male) and keratinization degree (high or moderate) are directly related with OSCC recurrence. In fact, free illness time is lower in men and higher in those cases with minimal or no keratinization. Conclusions: Based on the variables analyzed, it has not been possible to establish a histological risk pattern that, complementary to the TNM classification, could have a predictive role in these early-stage tongue carcinoma

Semi-inclusive charged-current neutrino-nucleus cross sections in the relativistic plane-wave impulse approximation

    Get PDF
Neutrino-nucleus quasielastic scattering is studied in the plane-wave impulse approximation for three nuclear models: the relativistic Fermi gas (RFG), the independent-particle shell model (IPSM), and the natural orbitals (NO) model with Lorentzian dependence of the excitation energy. A complete study of the kinematics of the semi-inclusive process and the associated cross sections are presented and discussed for 40Ar and 12C. Inclusive cross sections are also obtained by integrating the semi-inclusive expressions over the outgoing hadron. Results are consistent with previous studies restricted to the inclusive channel. In particular, a comparison with the analytical results for the RFG model is performed. Explicit expressions for the hadronic tensor and the 10 semiinclusive nuclear responses are given. Theoretical predictions are compared with semi-inclusive experimental data from T2K experiment. We bring to light a small herma sculpture which portraits a young Bacchus from Las Laderas archaeological site. Dating from Neronian-Flavian times, it could have been used like an ornamental item in a villa placed in the outskirts of the ancient site of Nescania

We deal with a group of ten Roman bronze pieces preserved in a private collection which must be related to surgical practices. Coming from the territory occupied by the modern population of Osuna (Seville), it contains a pair of tweezers, two spoons and seven probes of diverse types, which increase the number of this type of instruments attested and published in this area, while they would also confirm the presence of doctors at this site

In this paper celebrations of the fifty-years anniversary of IFToMM, the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science, is reported with main aspects of the event that has been organized on 30 June 2019 during a special session at the IFToMM World Congress in Krakow, Poland. Memories of the celebration are illustrated with photos and historical data

    Get PDF

New bronze iberian votive offerings from the Sanctuary of Collado de los Jardines (Santa Elena, Jaen)

We analyse three human figures: a male, a female and another more schematic, as well as the representation of a harnessed and saddled horse, all of them dating between the 4th and 3rd centuries b.C
