Diseño geotécnico de las cimentaciones de la estructura para paso de fauna en el PK 21+270 de la carretera B-224 en el T.M. de Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona).

[ES] Este trabajo consiste en diseñar, desde el punto de vista geotécnico, la cimentación de una estructura de paso para fauna en el PK 21+270 de la carretera B-224 en el municipio de SANT Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona). De esta estructura únicamente se conoce el diseño por lo que será necesario realizar, en primer lugar, una estimación de cargas sin mayorar, con objeto de determinar la combinación más desfavorable puesto que el procedimiento que se va seguir, para comprobar la seguridad de la cimentación, es el basado en el concepto de estados límite. Se proporcionará al alumno el estudio geotécnico de la zona, del que deberá realizar un análisis crítico tomando como base la ¿Guía de cimentaciones en obras de carreteras¿ y en base a los conocimientos adquiridos en la titulación. De este análisis se podría derivar la necesidad de completar la campaña geotécnica, que sería propuesta por el alumno. Una vez analizados estos condicionantes, definida la estratigrafía del subsuelo en cada uno de los apoyos y parametrizado el terreno, se plantea realizar un estudio de alternativas para la cimentación de esta estructura y el diseño de la solución recomendada, desde el punto de vista geotécnico. El alumno producirá la documentación gráfica necesaria para definir la solución elegida, que además será valorada económicamente. Avaluació experimental de la millora de l’aprenentatge en estadística

Background: e-status is a web-based tool able to generate different statistical exercices and to provide immediate feed-back to students´ answers. Although the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is widely extended in undergraduate education, there are few studies formally evaluating its learning effects. Method: all the students (121) from a dentistry introductory statistical course were randomly assigned to use the tool with one of two sets of 6 problems. The exam includes questions related with topics covered by both types of problems. Exam evaluator was masked to the problems set. Results: 94 students used the tool, solving more than 1400 exercises over six weeks. Providing e status exercises to students has a learning effect of 0.96 points (95% CI from 0.20 to 1.72) in a ten points scale. Among those 94 students who employed e status, effect size was 1.27 (0.35 to 2.19). Conclusion: providing e-status exercises to students has a direct effect on learning statistical mechanical operations. Further effects on higher cognitive levels still to be explored. It is feasible to formally assess the learning effect of an innovative tool

Assessing the Left Ventricular Systolic Function at the Bedside: The Role of Transpulmonary Thermodilution-Derived Indices

Evaluating the systolic function of the left ventricle (LV) is important in the hemodynamic management of the critically ill patients with circulatory failure. Echocardiography is considered the standard monitor for estimating the LV function at the bedside in the intensive care unit. However, it requires a trained operator and is not a real-time monitoring tool. For monitoring of the systolic function, the pulmonary artery catheter has been the gold standard for a long time. However, now there are alternatives to this device, with transpulmonary thermodilution being one of them. This paper provides an overview of the usefulness of the transpulmonary thermodilution-derived indices for assessing systolic function at the bedside

El presente trabajo de investigación resume los hallazgos resultado de una experiencia innovadora docente que se inaugura en el curso académico 2021-2022 y perfecciona durante el 2022-2023. El experimento, realizado durante el cuarto semestre del grado en fundamentos de la arquitectura de la Universidad de Alicante y a través de una asignatura de dibujo arquitectónico, consiste en difuminar los límites entre la profesión y el mundo académico mediante la participación activa de los agentes intervinientes, a saber, discentes, docentes, arquitectas y arquitectos de reconocido prestigio de la provincia de Alicante y alrededores. Así, partiendo de una serie de encuentros e intersecciones interactivas en forma de conferencias, mesas redondas y entrevistas, se propone una metodología de trabajo en la que el discente, consciente de su papel activo a la hora de comprender e interpretar lo gráfico, tiene la oportunidad de sintetizar las competencias y capacidades adquiridas en un formato que, aunque exclusivamente gráfico, en la mayoría de los casos excede los contenidos de partida. Differentiation of Epoxide Enantiomers in the Confined Spaces of an Homochiral Cu(II) MOF by Kinetic Resolution

TAMOF-1, a homochiral metal-organic framework (MOF) constructed from an amino acid derivative and Cu(II), was investigated as a heterogeneous catalyst in kinetic resolutions involving the ring opening of styrene oxide with a set of anilines. The branched products generated from the ring opening of styrene oxide with anilines and the unreacted epoxide were obtained with moderately high enantiomeric excesses. The linear product arising from the attack on the non-benzylic position of styrene oxide underwent a second kinetic resolution by reacting with the epoxide, resulting in an amplification of its final enantiomeric excess and a concomitant formation of an array of isomeric aminodiols. Computational studies confirmed the experimental results, providing a deep understanding of the whole process involving the two successive kinetic resolutions. Furthermore, TAMOF-1 activity was conserved after several catalytic cycles. The ring opening of a mesoepoxide with aniline catalyzed by TAMOF-1 was also studied and moderate enantioselectivities were obtained

Assessing climate impacts on English economic growth (1645-1740): an econometric approach

British pre-industrial economic growth has traditionally been analysed from the Malthusian point of view and other more optimistic approaches, but in many cases, ignoring environmental factors. This article explores the inclusion of the climate in this general debate, focusing on one of the colder periods of the last 500 years, known as the Maunder Minimum. The provisional results suggest that climate change and the resulting adaptations may have influenced the start of the English Agricultural Revolution, the Energy Transition and the European Divergence. However, from an econometric point of view these results are not fully conclusive, making it necessary to continue working with better primary sources and other alternative methodologies
